More pizza, fewer vegetables: Trump administration further undercuts Obama school-lunch rules

They don't care.
This is all about them being in control of other peoples' children.

It's about some parents being fit and wanting a healthier diet for their children. You presume everyone is seeking validation for being a fat slob. You presume everyone finds vegetables "inedible".

This isn't about children for you. It's about validation for a garbage diet.

That's fatass bs.

School lunch fruits and veggies often tossed in trash, study finds - CBS News

"Researchers from the University of Vermont used digital photography to capture images of students' lunch trays after they selected their food, as they were leaving the lunch line, and again at the end of their lunch as they passed the food disposal area. They found that while children placed more fruits and vegetables on their trays - as required by the USDA mandates put in place in 2012 - they consumed fewer of them. The amount of food wasted increased by 56 percent, the researchers found."

Nobody has condemned "healthy food". What's being condemned is forcing tasteless, bland, inedible healthy food down the throats of kids who won't eat it. The waste!

I support healthy food being served in the public school cafeterias but if the kids are throwing it away, what's the next step? Bring back stuff they will eat and brown bag lunches? Or keep trying to force feed them healthy food they won't eat?

Text books are boring too. Just let kids choose their own educational sources. If they want to read comic books that’s better than nothing, I guess.

So that means feed them garbage? Fatass bs.

Are you a parent? You sound like a non-parent who thinks they have this whole parenting thing figured out.

This topic is like the annual War On Christmas. It’s just as stupid now as it was before.

One needn't be a parent to see obesity in America. One does need be a fat slob to ignore it or pretend it's okay.

They're always the ones... Jack of all trades, Master of none.

Why don't you try answering my questions now?

Buncha Jabbas looking for validation. "Forcing vegetables on children is wrong! Vegetables are inedible!"

I've asked the question over and over and so far none of the DP healthy eating for life parents of the year have bothered to come up with a solution.

So I'll ask it again...If the kids are throwing it away, what's the next step? Bring back stuff they will eat and brown bag lunches? Or keep trying to force feed them healthy food they won't eat?

I don't think the standard should be parenthood. The standard should be "not a fatass". How about instead of asking people about parenthood, we require a pic proving they're not a fat slob before they can oppose vegetables. I think that's more fair.

You were already told what the next step is. Hire people who know how to cook. Make tasty and healthy meals. This is not brain surgery.

Now I’m picturing trix as a 340 pound borderline shut in with high cholesterol sitting in a bedroom surrounded by little Caesars pizza boxes and empty Cheetos bags.

BC, (Before Communism), mom's had the wit wisdom energy and sense of responsibility to see to the proper nutrition of their families. With that being said, we're not in Kansas anymore and the motherless children of our great, government raised society should not suffer anymore than they already do from mom's having been socially programmed to become full time slaves to equality in the workplace during their children's formative years. Since school lunch is more likely than not the only home cooked meal for the majority of USAmerica's children, better make it a good one with lots of organics and vegetables and healthy preparation

You brain feeds on sugar, not so much opioids...

Sugar interrupts synapse activity in the brain, kills nerve receptors, and destroys capillaries in the brain, both clogging them and breaking down the tissue, causing a myriad of neurological illnesses and maladies. The brain produces its own insulin to protect brain cells from sugar's negative effects. While blood sugars in combination with other nutrients are a source of energy, that doesn't hold for dietary sugar. Blood sugars converted from body fats and complex carbohydrates in the diet offer self protecting molecules from the negative effects of sugar. Overloading dietary sugars will interfere with the construction of those protective molecules.

Yes, the brain tissues requires energy to function, but too much of anything can be highly toxic. Consume too much protein as a habit and your kidneys will malfunction leading to renal failure and death. No one can live without proteins.

All sugars are not equal, and we do not understand how the distinctions effect us. Corn sugars, fructose has an additional molecule compared to cane sugars. Can you explain how that one molecule differentiation effects human beings? Can you explain the distinction in how the body processes fructose when accompanied by other nutrients found in fresh fruit as opposed to when separated as a syrup or a dehydrated powder without those other nutrients? Can you explain why people who have lived for generations in regions where cane sugar grows rarely suffer from diabetes symptoms? Inquiring minds want to know.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

You never said anything about the costs.
That will cost the taxpayers a lot more money.
People who know how to cook don't usually want to work in public school cafeterias for minimum wage.

Eat what I eat.....

And you too can be a junk food fat slob....

Just because burgers and pizza are America's go to options doesn't mean they're the only things that kids will eat. If you give them a tray of vegetables they might not like it. But add some dip and suddenly it's a different story.

Gee, I wonder what works in less obese countries?
Nah, if you can't do it, it can't be done.

I never said it can't be done only that it's NOT being done universally across the board if public school kids are still throwing away the food.

The quality of food must come up because as it stands it's questionable, given "the lack of on-site cooking facilities and minimal USDA funding."

Another Study Shows Kids Eating More Healthy Food at School, Throwing Less Food Away

That will cost the taxpayers a lot more money.

It will cost the taxpayers less than it would cost them in future healthcare costs paid out to their insurance companies to treat the diet-caused illnesses of diabetes, heart disease, or obesity for these kids. Not to mention, whole veggies, beans, grains, and fruits are among the cheapest foods out there.
People who know how to cook don't usually want to work in public school cafeterias for minimum wage.
Then don't pay them one! Pay them like they are providing the nutritional needs for your kids to live, learn, and grow for at LEAST one meal every weekday (more if they eat breakfast there). This sort of mindset is why we also don't have many good teachers. Pay them better! Good grief. Instead of building a fancy schmancy new football stadium that a fraction of the kids will ever use, let alone have a serious future in, spend that money to make sure kids are well-nourished so their brains and bodies are able to learn and grow - ALL kids, not some fraction of them.
