Attorney Michael Avenatti on Tuesday night was arrested by IRS agents on allegations of violating the terms of his pre-trial release, according to a spokesperson for the US Attorney's Office in Los Angeles.

The documents related to the arrest are under seal and the spokesperson couldn't provide further details on the allegations. Avenatti is expected to appear in federal court in Santa Ana, California, on Wednesday


When he appears today, I suspect we will learn the exact reasons for his re-arrest. He already is facing some serious time in prison even if things go his way in his pending trial, due to earlier pleas.

years ago, one of the federal prosecutors I worked with, had a novel case-a first application of a banking fraud law that I think was passed under Clinton. In a parallel universe, Democrats make Avenatti their Presidential nominee in order to troll conservatives, all the while accusing the Republican candidate of corruption (this republican wouldn’t be trump, so the accusation might not even be true). And every time republicans point out that avenatti was indicted and jailed for multiple crimes, Democrats will roundly ignore them.

Although I wouldn’t technically want to live in that parallel universe, I can’t deny that it would be extremely funny.

this guy was a dirt bag but since he was touting anti-trump crap all the democrats jumped in the pool with him.
they should have done a bit more research on this guy to see what a pos he really is.

Actually, it is pretty funny in this universe. Avenatti in fact did announce an exploratory committee for a presidential campaign, he formed a PAC, held fundraising, etc. For a time, he was listed as a contender for the Democrat nomination (on a long list). He was certainly a darling on this board for 'fighting President Trump's corruption!'

Then the fact he was stealing from his clients came to light, and suddenly Democrats have never heard of him.
