Ahead of impeachment trial, Trump suggests not having it

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump says the Senate should simply dismiss the impeachment case against him, an extraordinary suggestion as the House prepares to transmit the charges to the chamber for the historic trial.

The Republican president is giving mixed messages ahead of the House’s landmark vote that will launch the Senate proceedings in a matter of days, only the third presidential impeachment trial in American history. Trump faces charges that he abused power by pushing Ukraine to investigate Democratic rival Joe Biden and then obstructed Congress.

First Trump was suggesting his own ideas for trial witnesses, then he said almost the opposite Sunday by tweeting that the trial shouldn’t
happen at all.

“Many believe that by the Senate giving credence to a trial” over charges he calls a hoax, Trump tweeted, “rather than an outright dismissal, it gives the partisan Democrat Witch Hunt credibility that it otherwise does not have. I agree!”

COMMENT:-

Having the Senate receive the bill of impeachment and the, ten minutes later, vote to dismiss the charges on a straight party line vote would do wonders for the Republican Party in November - wouldn't it?

Let the Republicans in the Senate do just that. And watch it blow up in their collective faces in November.

Oddly, none of the cultist would consider that a partisan vote.......

He wasn't charged with a crime or misdemeanor so it's a moot point. The Constitution talks and Trump walks try again in his second term Nancy.

It's a waste of time and money.

It's 100% partisan, the republicans were never going to consider it.

It's just the dems way of trying to get the left to vote for them.

Just wondering. Did you consider the vote in the house partisan? Do you consider yourself a cultist?

The house vote was completely partisan on both sides.

Donald Trump is deranged as many Americans must know. Nothing can be gained by trying to make sense of his increasingly peculiar tweets.

Do they have that power?

He wasn't charged with a crime or misdemeanor so it's a moot point. The Constitution talks and Trump walks try again in his second term Nancy.

Seriously, what rock have you been living under? He was impeached on the grounds of high crimes and misdemeanors which was, 1. Abuse of power and 2. Obstruction of Congress. Both are crimes AND misdemeanors.

Obstruction is a crime, abuse of power is a crime. Both are impeachable. Ask Nixon.

Abuse of power and obstruction of congress lol. How about spitting on the sidewalk too you're kidding me right?

Both are made up crimes. Charge Trump with a real crime and get back to us.

Then why hasn't every President been impeached? Every President has done this, in the course of doing his job.

Because republicans are party hacks that just vote donw party line. All the evidence showed Trump should have been impeached. But republicans are spineless cowards pandering to the biggest scumbags the US has to offer

No president until Trump has undergone an impeachment trial and has flatly refused to turn over documents, allow witnesses to be called and clearly state publicly that he will not cooperate. There has only been 3 presidents in our more recent history formally impeached by Congress, Trump is the first one to be impeached before he finished his first term.

No, every president has not done this in the course of doing his job.

Many Trumpkins are saddled with a bad case of Cognitive dissonance.

No worse than passing the articles on less than a straight party line as democrats did.
since you do not think there is an issue with passing or not passing things on straight party lines you should
have no issue with them dismissing it.

i doubt however that it will be on a straight party line. there are a few honest democratic senators just like
there area few honest democratic house members that saw through this dog and pony show that schiff and pelosi put on.
they were at least honest to admit it.

The house vote was completely partisan on both sides.

actually it wasn't partisan on both sides. there was more bi-partisan against the articles than there was for it.
the only partisan vote and not even a full partisan vote was on pelosi.

there were a few honest democrats that voted against them.

No, every president has not done this in the course of doing his job.

according to nadler and pelosi this was an illegitimate impeachment so that is all that matters.

Because republicans are party hacks that just vote donw party line. All the evidence showed Trump should have been impeached. But republicans are spineless cowards pandering to the biggest scumbags the US has to offer

pot meet kettle.
actually there was no evidence presented because all 17 witnesses said they had no evidence.

Why didn't the House then go to court to get the dispute resolved? That's what happened with Nixon and the tapes.

Could it be that they didn't want it resolved? If that happened, then they couldn't drum it up as a made up charge. Trump is under no obligation to participate in Nancy's perversion of the impeachment clause. She refused to conduct it as prior impeachments, because it would fall apart. She needed a democrat only, biased investigation so she could ram it through. So bad that she's trying to dictate to the Senate on how to run it, which is more perversion from her. Trump was a 100% correct to protect the office of President and the Constitution.

He wasn't charged with a crime or misdemeanor so it's a moot point. The Constitution talks and Trump walks try again in his second term Nancy.

Conservative logic:
1. He can't be charged with a crime because he would have no means of defending himself in court
2. He wasn't charged with a crime so he can't be impeached

The president doesn't have to be "charged with a crime" to be impeached so your post is meaningless.
