House approves war powers resolution to restrict Trump on Iran

The War Powers Act needs to be updated and the leniency that the President has to use our troops and military power needs to be restricted. Only Congress has the power to declare war. This has been needed for quite some time. But this toothless political grandstanding does nothing to push for proper controls and oversight by the Congress.

The political Kabuki theater is getting old.
cool show us where trump declared war without congressional approval?

Due to the bill's structuring in the House, the analysis in the CNN article in my post #24 above, claims McConnel must indeed put the measure up for a senate vote, and he is not allowed to amend it.

actually he can amend it. pelosi doesn't get to dictate anything to the senate.
and from my understanding she isn't even sending it to the senate.

Perhaps it will help stop another cockeyed order to the American military by their unhinged Commander-in-Chief.

LOL, come on, you know that's going to happen again. We're talking about the biggest laughing stock in the world.

LOL
Another waste of taxpayer money and time.
The resolution is non-binding.

Another example by democrats to jeopardize our national security. In a time we should be united, the democrats divide us in front of the world.
Another example of democrat hypocrisy. Clinton and Obama made similar decisions but the democrats are doing this simply because Trump made the decision.

Can you imagine if Trump had to get approval from democrat controlled House. There would be leaks simply to undermine the president and we would not have had the opportunity to rid the world of an evil person.

One has to think how far will the democrats go to get rid of Trump?

Please post a link so we can see how much taxpayer money was "wasted" on this vote.

Show us where he said Trump declared war without congressional approval.

he is the one claiming that there is a war.
did you not read his post or are you playing your obtuse game again?

You need a link to the obvious?
Figure it out. Take the one day salary of all the members in the house and add them up. Don’t forget to add the salary of staffers. Don’t forget supplies. I’m sure there are other expenses.
Don’t forget to figure out what could actually been done if they weren’t wasting time on a non-binding resolution.

You didn't show me where that poster said Trump declared war without congressional approval.

Yes. I'd like a link. You mentioned the cost. Please do tell us what it is.

"Pompeo says 'we don't know when, we don't know where' Soleimani had planned 'imminent attacks'"

This is a big clue the Trump administration has been lying about there being an imminent attack.

"Mr. Trump, after the strike, told associates he was under pressure to deal with Gen. Soleimani from GOP Senators he views as important supporters in his coming impeachment trial in the Senate, associates said."

* No imminent threat

* Done for the purpose of the impeachment trial

The assassination of Gen Soleimani should be added to Trump's Articles of Impeachment.

It seems the measure is structured in a way that will not allow the Senate to amend it, nor will it go to the President for his signature. So essentially, the measure seems symbolic. The vote was largely partisan, but not perfectly (8 Dems, 3 Repubs defected).

It is however another Trump-Nixon parallel, as the War Powers Resolution of 1973 was legislated specifically in response to Nixon. But in those days Congress was far more united & functional. The War Powers Act was legislated by both parties, where Nixon veto'd the legislation when it came to his desk, with Congress responding to the veto by overriding it by super-majority to force the resolution into codified law.

The resolution was intended to do one thing and that was to generate headlines like the one you posted. It’s nonbinding. It’s nothing more than propaganda that’s going to be used for campaigning and fundraising.

I had to look it up, so here are numbers from 2013. For the fiscal year 2013 it cost 5.64 billion to operate congress and the rest of the legislative branch. About one billion are reimbursable expenses. So the average cost per day is about 12.6 million. Of course we are only talking about the House, but the amount of money spend is staggering.

Soleimani has already lead hundreds of attacks.
why are you defending a terrorist?

The guy has killed hundreds of his own people and americans and Israelis in his
terrorist activities and you defend scum like this. all innocent civilians.
your pissed because this scum is dead?

why?

i bet you were equally pissed when saddam was captured and bin laden killed.

It is not about defending Soleimani, it’s about a hatred for Trump and any decision he makes.

If Trump hadn’t killed Soleimani and if he killed Americans and the story leaked that Trump had a chance to kill him, the left and media would crucify Trump.
There is no decision Trump can make without lefties criticizing him.

It doesn't cost Congress $5.64 billion to vote on something.
