Democrats are expected to unveil two articles of impeachment against President Trump on Tuesday that will focus on abuse of power and obstructing Congress, and would be voted on by the full House next week, according to three officials familiar with the matter.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) met with Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) and other committee chairmen Monday night after a nine-hour hearing in which a Democratic counsel laid out the party’s case against Trump. The three officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss the private talks, cautioned that the plan had not been finalized.

Leaving a meeting with Pelosi, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot L. Engel (D-N.Y.) told reporters that he and the chairmen of other House committees would announce specific articles at a news conference at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

So the focus narrows and the plot thickens. No bribery, no obstruction of justice.

lol...broad terms like those in bold are the exact opposite of a "narrow focus."

Considering where they could have gone...it's narrower. It's all for show regardless.

This will not end well.

I think it’s a political suicide - Democrat’s failed to produce a single witness with real smoking gun. Nobody could say they’ve heard themselves that Trump held aid in exchange for investigation.

It may well dwindle down to that.

2 scoops is outrageous. Somewhere someone deserving got none as a result of that over the top gluttony. Heaven only knows what Trump may have done with the Gummy Bears. You'd better believe children will be in tears Christmas morning because of that shortage. I don't even want to get started on the soy beans.

Ironic that the people who have decried that Trump has lowered standards have now lowered the bar for impeachment. For all intents and purposes the bar is now if the sitting president loses the house there will be calls for impeachment based on we don't like that person.

Considering where they could have gone...it's narrower. It's all for show regardless.

There is no rule that if one impeachment fails another on different charges can't be instituted.

Obstructing Congress is really Contempt of Congress, and according to the Office of Legal Counsel, the President is protect by Executive Privilege.

Just as Pelosi asserts that Trump isn't above the law, neither is she or the Congress. The Congress does not have unlimited power on oversight, but only to the limit of a real legislative interest. Questioning the president on foreign affairs and law enforcement matters is dubious.

Too narrow, too quickly. The GOP will be writing books titled "How I got away with it" for decades to come in sardonic mockery of the democratic effort. Of course democrats will torpedo their own efforts. In the face of GOP insanity they always falter.

A more expansive investigation has to happen. Emoluments, we need to hear from a multitude of witnesses. It is about cleansing the office, after all, and this office is stinking with filth.

Right now...its all about the upcoming election. Why the rush? In the end, it will not matter as it will end in the Senate. Then, America gets to decide at the ballot box if this entire process really matters.

The evidence was overwhelming and the best first-hand witness was Trump himself, who told China that they should investigate Biden right on TV!

With regard to obstruction of Congress, no witnesses are required. There is no contention that Trump ordered subpoenaed witnesses not to comply. In other words, you argue that "Democrat’s failed to produce a single witness with real smoking gun." Why is that? Because Trump ordered those witnesses, who are the smoking gun, not to testify. That's slam-dunk obstruction of Congress. It's like when a mafia boss has witnesses bumped off. Trump is denying Congress the very witnesses that make the case against him. Trump shouldn't be unduly rewarded for this. Thus, the charge of obstruction of Congress.

There is no rule that if one impeachment fails another on different charges can't be instituted.

Haven't we had enough redundancy? They know this is just a waste of time and money.

It's not dubious to question the president on foreign affairs when those affairs have involved a scenario where congressionally apportioned funding has been hijacked for a bribery plot.

Moreover, this is just more of the same with you conservatives. Just like abortion, and your opposition to it, you literally have NO IDEA what box of instances you're opening up. Of course, you don't give a damn, since you feel like you're winning, but here's the reality.

If the Senate does nothing, any president (unless of course the GOP legislates after the fact that presidents cannot use their office to ask for political investigations, which I fully expect them to do, so as to stop a democrat from doing what Trump did; there is a pattern of them doing this for sure.) can simply tie foreign aid to domestic political favors. Bar none. And you guys will have unleashed partisan actions across the globe.

It makes literally zero sense. The entire Trump defense makes no sense. If trump was concerned about corruption, why would he go to a corrupt prosecutor in Ukraine who was fired because he was corrupt, to investigate corruption? If Trump was concerned about Biden's corruption, why did he note use our law enforcement to investigate it on day 1? If Trump cared about a fair and legal investigation, why is he actively having his pet lawyer go out and meet with corrupt officials from the prior Ukrainian regime to handle this, AND asking the president of Ukraine to simply announce the investigations?

You guys have to suspend so much common sense, and ignore so much evidence, to come to the conclusion Trump is being honest, or, that what he did is acceptable.

I for one weep for the future of this republic. Our president is beholden to theocrats and oligarchs. Our president asks foreign nations to intercede in our political affairs for his benefit. He grimly mocks the entire trust of the public with flippant quips about foreign nations investigating his rivals.

He has thoroughly destroyed the trust the public may have had, and as I keep pointing out, if he loses, no Trump voter will trust the electoral outcome; and if he wins, no anti-trump voter will trust the outcome.

The senate has become an official roadblock for common sense electoral reform, like requiring paper ballots (not machines owned by Ivanka Trump or George Soros).

This is complete madness. I am ashamed of my conservative friends, and ashamed for them, and how low they have stooped all because this president pwns the libs. It paints half the country as secessionist assholes and arsonists who couldn't care less about the future of this nation, just so they can keep on winning elections - outcomes be damned.

Protecting democracy is worth it.

Moreover, the idea that it is wasting time is false. No bills are being neglected in the House, who passed nearly 400 bills that are dying of neglect in the Senate.

Or we could just get on with making America great again. You know....like focusing on drug prices, infrastructure, clean energy, etc.

If that's true then more reason to drop this façade and get on with the country's business. continue MAG. Right now it's causing a stalemate.

But it was OK for the Obama admin to withhold funds AND weapons? Ever heard of diplomacy? It's involves give and take.

Have you ever read the federalist papers and why the argument "Well, there is an election" doesn't hold water?

The house has passed multiple bills addressing the majority of those issues, while also impeaching president Trump. Hundreds of bills passed, all stonewalled by Mitch McConnell, so it sounds like your problem is actually with the majority leader, not the democrats in the house passing legislation to fix those issues.

It makes perfect sense when you consider the GALACTIC HYPOCRISY of the Democratic Party for the last century, and that displayed just in the last couple of years, as they plotted to overthrow an election. And don't think that the IG report is your Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free card. There's plenty there in that very limited investigation to show the problems and abuses of FISA. I'd buckle up if I were you. Every single thing that Democrats have accused Republican administrations of, they have already been committing. It happens everyday, and Biden is a perfect example that Democrats are desperately trying to sweep under the rug.

But it was OK for the Obama admin to withhold funds AND weapons? Ever heard of diplomacy? It's involves give and take.

Diplomacy does not involve asking corrupt nations to investigate american citizens.

That's what you don't get.

Moreover, Trump did not follow the impoundment law, and illegally withheld funds past the fiscal year end. That is egregious and should result in impeachment alone. Ukraine still does not have all the money apportioned to them.

Finally, this is about Trump. I'm not playing this game with you, or any other con on here. If you want to discuss Obama, start a thread. You'll be surprised how venomous I am toward that do-nothing hack.
