Biden blames staff, says nobody ‘warned’ him son’s Ukraine job could raise conflict

Clearly, when it comes to Trump making good on promises, I have a lot more cynicism than you!

On a positive note (admittedly reluctant to give Trump even a hint of credit), I woke up humming this song:

BUTTRUMPER :lamo

Biden blames staff, says nobody ‘warned’ him son’s Ukraine job could raise conflict | Fox News

Former Vice President Joe Biden claimed in a new interview that when his son Hunter was a board member of Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings while he was in office, no one informed him that it could pose a problem.

Biden insisted again that Hunter did nothing wrong, but this time appeared to fault his staff for not cluing him in that there could be concerns about his son's involvement with the foreign company that had been under investigation while Biden was in office and dealing with Ukraine policy.

"Nobody warned me about a potential conflict of interest. Nobody warned me about that," Biden told NPR in a story posted Monday.

State Department official George Kent addressed this during his testimony as part of the impeachment inquiry of President Trump, acknowledging that he told staff members there was concern over the appearance of a conflict of interest, but that no one told the vice president because his older son Beau was suffering from what was ultimately a fatal battle with brain cancer.

"They should have told me," Biden says now. Hunter's dealings and the elder Biden's role ousting a prosecutor looking into Burisma are being used by Trump and his supporters against the now-2020 presidential candidate, even as Trump's effort to press for an investigation into that conduct has spurred the impeachment inquiry.

If Biden could not see the conflict of interest himself he is way too stupid to be President.

That’s a real laugh coming from a Trumpster. Conflict of interest is where Trump lives.

From 2014 when it happened...

The head of a watchdog group on government ethics said there was no inherent conflict in Biden’s job.

“It can’t be that because your dad is the vice president, you can’t do anything,” said Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.

WASHINGTON—A career State Department official told congressional investigators this week that he raised concerns in 2015 with a senior official at the White House about then-Vice President Joe Biden’s son being on the board of a Ukrainian natural-gas company because of concerns about the potential optics of a conflict of interest, a person familiar with the matter said.

Throwing Hunter under the bus? He was supposed to be the "point guy" on Ukraine so we have assume he knew Burisma by reputation.

Dude...over half is like magical unicorn territory for DC.

Obama came close with 48% (258 promises). So far, Trump has clocked in 18% (18 promises)

Some of the ones that read broken were done so by judicial decisions. Besides it sure looks like he is trying to accomplish many of his campaign promises.

Yeah, he is the master of "looks like he is trying" for his base.

What a lot of clown car bull****. You don't consider in the works to be trying? Compromise is also trying. Care to source your Obama numbers? Curious.

We already know that. Here's the problem. It was public knowledge. Very, very public knowledge. To the point where the press was openly discussing the "concern". Yet there was no ethical violation, and certainly no legal violation. Further, Hunter is a private individual. Joe can't force him to not sit on the board. What did you expect should've happened?

I think not long ago Biden claimed he wasn’t even aware of his son working for a Ukrainian company.
How come nobody noticed the flip flop?

Meh. The bar has been lowered significantly the past few years
- both in lack of intelligence and conflicts of interest.

For once we are in agreement. Though there has been no evidence he was involved in this alleged corruption - the conflict of interest was not a good look. There's little doubt that his position because of his contacts family and political contacts.

But can we talk a little more about those unable to see a conflict of interest being "too stupid" to be president? Because that's the situation we have with the current president whose businesses directly benefit from his position.

Or is it okay because he knows he's corrupt and doesn't care, So at least he's not "stupid"? I mean in this context there really is a bit to unpack here.

That would be a different kind of scenario:
Trump doesn't have his businesses because he is president.
Meanwhile, H Biden had his job only because his father was vice president.
No comparison.

If you include "compromise" as "trying", then Obama number is 76% for promises kept or achieved a compromise.

Source is the same site as for Trump numbers:

Trump isn't done yet - this is meaningless.

He's practically had 3 out of 4 years already. It's definitely meaningful to look at what he has done so far and how far he got, especially with Republican House *and* Senate in the first 2 years.

Though there has been no evidence he was involved in this alleged corruption - the conflict of interest was not a good look. There's little doubt that his position because of his contacts family and political contacts.

That's a dumb argument. Hunter Biden got a job at a private company because of his last name. You think Ivanka and Jared are in the freaking White House because of their merits?

And even as it related to Trump businesses, being corrupt and benefiting from Presidency to primarily advance his businesses does not mean he is not openly corrupt. It makes 0 difference that businesses were started prior to Presidency.

My thought is that you are defecting a thread that is about Biden to wahatabout Trump. Do try to to stay on topic.

My thought is that you're trying to deflect from Trump's actions by continually pulling up this Biden issue which has been resolved already. Do try to stay relevant.

lol

I had thought that there were some concerns raised over the position that his kid was taking. Though I don't think it dismisses anything Trump has done in trying to leverage this for political gains.

Investigating potential corruption is interfering with an election now? Huh....

I guess Obama's State Department didn't tell him either when they were coaching Yovanovitch on what to say about the issue when her Senate hearings were coming up, too.

Poor Biden. "It wasn't MY fault!!!" just isn't going to fly.

Biden should change his campaign slogan from "No Malarkey" to "The Buck Stops Elsewhere"

Investigating potential corruption is interfering with an election now? Huh....

Soliciting foreign governments to announce politically motivated investigations against a potential rival sure does sound like interference, now doesn't it?

But I guess y'all are OK with foreign governments influencing our elections so long as the influence is for your side, huh?

You get that from the witnesses who heard rumor of that stipulation. Useless. Again, if you concede that Biden's actions and apparent lies regarding his knowledge and advice he received on his son are questionable, then an investigation is warranted.

And the corruption regarding Hunter Biden and Burisma would have been an investigation for the Ukrainians to conduct, so who would you rather be contacted to conduct that investigation?

You don't get excused from investigation by running for President.... unless you are a Democrat, I guess? :roll:

I mean, you are just showing transparent partisanship at this point. You supported a three year investigation into Trump that began when he was a candidate on less evidence.

But I guess y'all are OK with foreign governments influencing our elections so long as the influence is for your side, huh?

Ukraine was working to help Hillary in 2016. Putin managed to feed Kremlin misinformation into the FBI investigation into candidate Trump...

Joe Biden's son landed a no-show job with a corrupt Ukrainian oil company while his dad was supposedly working with Ukraine to fight corruption... but don't look into that because dumbass dad, even though he bragged about bribing Ukraine with US funds, is running for the DNC nomination?

You aren't serious...

You really have to feel sorry for Biden? The poor guy has no clue most of the time where he is.
He has been a giant gaff machine from the start of his run for president. Each day we are waiting
for the latest clip of the newest mistake. :peace

Biden meant he was unaware of the problems involving Burisma. There is not a "conflict of interest" involving the father of a person who becomes involved with an ordinary foreign corporation.

~~~~~~
Except when you're father is Vice President of the USA.... Come on you can put lipstick on this pig but it's still a pig....
Agreed. Biden is proving he’s a moron if he needs a staffer to tell him that his loser son being offered a $50K/month job by a corrupt company wouldn’t raise some eyebrows.
What the RWNJ Trumpians are missing is the fact that just because someone tries to influence a politician by hiring their kid doesn’t mean it will work. Biden didn’t have anything to do with his son getting the job and the only relationship I’ve seen him have with Ukraine is to join the Euros in seeking to end corruption there, including ousting a crooked prosecutor.
Except for Joey's admission before an audience....If that wasn't an admission of extortion, bribery and Quid Pro Quo what the 'H" was it?
At this point, it's been defeated. There wasn't much there to Biden's kid, this is known. But defunct conspiracy theories is what Trumpeteers like to use most. They'll repeat the defunct "Ukraine interfered with the 2016 elections" line. It's a lie, all they have are lies and distortions to defend their Dear Leader.
Biden isn't that smart, and I don't think he should win the DNC primary, he wouldn't be a good President. I mean, probably better than Trump, but it's hard to imagine worse. He stepped into it with his kid and the Ukraine prosecutor. But it's been shown to not have amounted to much at this point. It's a dead horse.
