A week later, Vasquez came down with a 103-degree fever and tested positive for the flu, according to an autopsy report obtained by ABC News. The report indicates he was prescribed Tamiflu the day before he died.

The video appears to dispute CBP’s account of how the boy was found in his holding cell. CBP reported to the medical examiner that Vasquez was found during a routine welfare check. But the video, obtained from the Weslaco Police Department by ProPublica, shows his cellmate discovering the 16-year-old's body and notifying a nearby official.

"The investigation into the death of Carlos Gregorio Hernandez Vasquez is ongoing," a CBP spokesperson said in a statement Thursday. "While we cannot discuss specific information or details of this investigation, we can tell you that the Department of Homeland Security and this agency are looking into all aspects of this case to ensure all procedures were followed."

In between medical checks Vasquez was seen vomiting while making several trips to the toilet in his cell, according to a review of surveillance video by the medical examiner.

Once a Govt takes a person into custody, they are responsible
Treatment like this will and does take the lead from Trump
Incarcerate and cut costs

Recommendation from Nurse/Practitioner was if conditions worsens, take to the hospital

The conditions are meant to be bad in order to act as a deterrent to other immigrants. I'm not saying that death was the intended outcome, but if your goal is to treat people inhumanely in order to frighten other people then, well, this is gonna happen.

Shame the child died.

If you arrest two hundred thousand illegal immigrants a month, is it a surprise when one dies? Shouldn't like 5 or 6 die?

Sad this happened but kids do die from flu in the U.S.


How many kids died from the flu 2019?
Kids' deaths rise to 56
However, this week another 15 flu-related pediatric deaths were reported to CDC, bringing the total to 56 flu-related deaths in children reported to CDC for the 2018-2019 flu season."

I find it somewhat disgusting that folks on this use a tragedy like this to make a cheap partisan point.

I saw the video, and if anyone else saw it and wasn't sick about what this country has become, then they're gone for good, lost their souls.

Zero children should die unattended on a concrete floor from a treatable illness.

Anyone who disagrees is a monster.

So the deaths of a half dozen or so migrant children are acceptable losses? Simple collateral damage? Given the level of neglect demonstrated in this video they're lucky there hasn't been more. Maybe there has but we just don't know of them yet. If any American parent were to neglect their sick child with that same manner of complete indifference they would be charged with homicide.

I am for strict immigration controls. That said in my country, once a person is inside Canada, claims asylum, the full rights afforded to a Canadian citizen, apply to these refugees/asylum claims

Again, while in custody-released ROR. the Govt is responsible

The west, US, Canada, NATO area are facing an influx of refugees,and it will only increase.

The clashes of morals and beliefs is off to war

Myself i do not not like what I see coming.

Kids in the US don't die from the flu due to lack of medical care. It's been a given in this country, that when a person is gravely ill, they are given care, and that's everyone. We aren't supposed to pick and choose who gets emergency medical help.

It's very rare for someone who is not very old, very young, or otherwise immunocompromised to die from the flu when they are receiving professional medical care.

False. Healthy people die from the flu every single year. It's a deadly virus and it can take anyone in a day or two.

And let's not even let our minds wander off to the children that have been sexually molested. It seems that we have a new measure of standard for our immigration detentions. We should now judge by the numbers of those that die in our custody in ratio to the number of immigrants detained and call it a victory when just five of one thousand or ten thousand die.
