White House rejects House Judiciary's invitation to participate in impeachment hearings

The White House on Friday rejected an invitation to take part in impeachment hearings before the House Judiciary Committee. In a brief letter to Committee Chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., White House counsel Pat Cipollone sharply attacked the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump as "completely baseless" and said House Democrats had "violated basic principles of due process and fundamental fairness."

Cipollone did not explicitly answer whether the White House would take part in the Judiciary Committee hearing scheduled for Monday, but a senior administration official told NBC News "the letter means that the White House will not participate in the House proceeding."

--

Trump and his supporters never cared about the process, and Trump never intended to participate in the impeachment inquiry process.

They just wanted to complain about being left out.

What's the point of participating in the hearings if the Speaker already came out and said, "Write up articles"? This whole House thing has been a case of, "You're guilty and we're going to impeach. You don't get a say in the matter but we'll be happy to have you over as we erect the gallows".

If they accept they then can't use the lie they are being left out.

I ask myself this question, if it were me and I was innocent and had the proof, I would have been in court long ago with a host of lawsuits for those who tried to hang me falsely.

The point would be to show all evidence that POTUS made a "perfect call," that all of the 12 or so witnesses called formed a cabal, allow those subpoenaed to testify, release all documents and that he has authorized all aid to Ukraine delivered, LutherF.

This whole Trump thing has been a case of, "I have absolute immunity, and I can do whatever I want. You can't talk to anyone or see any documents! I'm above the law! You don't get a say in the matter! I am the God-Emperor! Na-na na-na boo boo! "

From a legal perspective i think its a shrewed move to force the democrats to pass the articles of impeachment before responding. It forces them to stick to whatever the argument is in those articles. They have reoeatedly chsnged their arguments from QPQ to abuse of power. Its like playing a game of whack-a-mole and that ends with the articles. It will allow the WH to focus its efforts into specific defenses.

Politically it may not play out as well with the public. Trump has a decent argument that he isnt gonna participate under such bias circumstances but it msy be wise to provide someone on his legal team to attend and provide some pushback to whatever narrative the Dems try to sell.

Why? Nothing he says is going to change what the Democrats are doing. Besides, the Democrats are doing a fine job of presenting any American that isn't a Democrat with every reason in the world NOT to vote for them. Why ruin a good thing?

Did she say "write up the articles" before or after the hearings?

Well said Luther!

During the hearings. The hearings are still going on. I mean, that's the whole point of this thread, that Trump was invited to participate in the ONGOING hearings.

Further, the 'Obstruction of Congress' claims, which is related, are bogus.

Sure, Congress can subpoena whatever and whomever they want.
The recipient of said subpoena can object and not comply.
The congress then takes their subpoena to court.
The court decides whether the subpoena has legal standing or not, and if it does, the recipient is made to comply.

That's the order of things.

Now, what you have to ask yourself is, why haven't the Democrats taken any of their impeachment subpoenas to court to have them enforced?
"What's wrong with their subpoenas?" a reasonable person might ask.
"Why don't the Democrats have confidence in their subpoenas? That they'd be found to have legal standing and be enforced?"

Democrats are interested in making the Legislature the primary branch of government. They don't like the idea of separation of powers. Being opposed sucks when you really want to do what's best for the American people, even if they're generally too stupid to know it's best.

Trump and his supporters never cared about the process, and Trump never intended to participate in the impeachment inquiry process.

Now why the **** would Trump want to participate in this farce? He's letting the Democrats destroy themselves with this crapstick circus.

Are you going to watch this hearing Monday? I'm not, I will be reading the Horowitz Report.

Such is the typical baseless liberal / progressive / Democrat elitist arrogance, yes.

coupled with their far leftist extremism, which has been already recognized by some of their own.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is warning Democrats that if they pursue a far-left agenda, the result could be President Donald Trump's re-election.

In an op-ed for The Atlantic on Sunday, Emanuel said that despite Trump's apparent vulnerability in the polls, "Democrats can’t bank on voters being more dismayed by him than they are enamored of us."
Rahm Emanuel warns Democrats in 2020 not to play to 'socialist' type

In a recently published article in The Atlantic, Barack Obama’s former White House chief of staff and outgoing two-term mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, offered a warning to his own Democrat Party. “Earth to Democrats,” writes Emanuel, “Republicans are telling you something when they gleefully schedule votes on proposals like the Green New Deal, Medicare for all, and a 70 percent marginal tax rate. When they’re more eager to vote on the Democratic agenda than we are, we should take a step back and ask ourselves whether we’re inadvertently letting the political battle play out on their turf rather than our own.” He then pointedly adds, “If Trump’s only hope for winning a second term turns on his ability to paint us as socialists, we shouldn’t play to type.”

Nov 16, 2019 - Former President Barack Obama on Friday warned Democratic primary candidates to avoid moving too far left in their policy proposals.

Pleading no contest tends to result in that, yes.

That is not how someone who maintains their innocence acts.

Are you kidding me?

Pelosi, even before the hearings have concluded, instructed Nadler to write up articles. Whether Trump is guilty or not the outcome in the Hose has already been decided. The only place he can get a fair trial, maybe, is in the Senate so if hw wants a chance to defend himself that's where he has to get things. He's doing EXACTLY what someone who is innocent and wants to present a defense MUST do.

Now why the **** would Trump want to participate in this farce? He's letting the Democrats destroy themselves with this crapstick circus.

I understand this is not something a person in his position would want to do, and I know "conservatives" no longer care about duty, honor, and country, but it is still Trump's duty to comply with the subpoenas and participate in the process.

And if Trump cannot fulfill his obligations and do what he agreed to do in accordance with the oath he took to the Constitution...he needs to GTFO.

His refusal to participate in the process now negates any future complaint about the process. It was a very dumb strategic move on Trump's part. But it's really the only card he has left to play because the evidence against him is damning and mounting on a daily basis.

Who are you kidding? Trump was never going to participate in the process at any point. Had they given him a 6-month notice he still wouldn't have participated.

At no point have the Republicans ever engaged in this process in good faith. At no point.

Trump and his supporters never cared about the process, and Trump never intended to participate in the impeachment inquiry process.

Nadler: 'Dear President Chump. We have a special place reserved for you in our unlawful kangaroo court impeachment circus.'

Trump: 'Kellyanne, send the pompous buffoon word that I am too busy to waste time with his moronic Schitff show nonsense.'

"Unlawful."

See how this is going? Conservatives have convinced themselves it's illegal to impeach a president.
