Duncan Hunter says he'll resign after holidays following guilty plea over misusing campaign funds

(CNN)Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter of California announced on Friday that he'll resign from Congress following the holiday season, news that comes after the congressman pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations.

"Shortly after the Holidays I will resign from Congress," Hunter said in a statement Friday. "It has been an honor to serve the people of California's 50th District, and I greatly appreciate the trust they have put in me over these last 11 years."​

At most he'll most likely be made to pay a fine for the transgression, or he's already paid it at this point.
 
His CD was won by Trump by 40k. Hunter only won by 9k last year after winning by 76k in 2016. This is the most Repub portion of San Diego County.

Darrell Issa is running for this seat in the top two primary. Democrats have seven flipped seats from last year in CA to protect next year.

Why? He didn't want to put his children through anything more than necessary. Resigning and pleading guilty is better for his kids.
For once, he did the right thing.

He threw one of his kids under the bus blaming him for using the wrong credit card...and his wife and you say he didn't want to put his kids through anything more than necessary. You're right, he's already done the damage to his family.

Right. She was fined $500 for having wrongly used $3500 of travel funds. Paid for. To you this is the same as a blatant misuse of more than $200,000 for an Italian vacation, groceries, bedding... Gotta have your false equivalence to make sure your "conservative values" don't look so bad. :lol:

If he was worrying about his kids....too much too little too late.

He did what was best for himself. His wife's plea bargain meant she gave up the goods on Duncan. He was caught dead to rights and made the best deal FOR HIMSELF that he could.

It’s a sign of the times when the FEC receipts tell you who the major candidates are. With your top two primary system in CA, the only Democrat running may make it to the runoff. He lost to Hunter in 2018.

The only way I can enjoy politics is to get all into the nuts and bolts of elections, and of course crusade for the issues that are my passions, like infrastructure.

Actually, I was referring to her gross misuse of campaign money she was giving to the married guy she was screwing (for him and his company's 'services') and whose marriage she helped wreck (along with her own - I forget, was that her brother or was that her other marriage?).

But thanks, though, for reminding me that she has misused campaign dollars in other instances too.
