This is more example of incompetence by Trump, and complicity in that incompetence by the right. He's been packing the courts with egregiously unqualifed judges, whose sole qualifications appear only to have published papers that support an extreme right wing agenda.
To conclude that the right has become a swath of rot on society is a reasonable conclusion to draw, therefore.
Fact is that ever since Roe v Wade qualifications of judges became unimportant, political ideology whether a judges view is left or right, pro or anti abortion, among other things took front and center stage. This comes from both sides, left/right, Democrat/Republican, conservative/liberal.
Even before Roe v Wade, political ideology didn't play much of a role, what did was what these people did to help elected the president. Party leaders, senators, representatives recommended judges and most were confirmed.
The one big difference between today and a few years back when ex-democratic leader, Senator Harry Reid first used the nuclear option, each judge had to pass the 60 vote cloture threshold. Not so today, all thanks to Harry Reid. Do you think this judge would have been confirmed without the use of the nuclear option first used by Reid who set the precedence? NO. So thank Reid and his fellow Democratic Senators. That was the one good thing, unless one party had 60 senators, every judge, every nominee had to pass the 60 vote threshold. That meant to be confirmed several senators of the opposing party, the minority had to vote to confirm or for cloture to be more accurate. Today, thanks to Reid's first use of the nuclear option, only 51 is needed. A simple majority.
This means any president who's party controls the senate can nominate the most extremist judge, the most corrupt, the most inept and be guaranteed of confirmation. Extremist from one side or the other are becoming the norm now, all in thanks to Ex-Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
