Jonathan Turley 'inundated with threatening messages' after testimony opposing Trump impeachment

Basically, his argument that the House needed to call the witnesses that the White House refuses to let testify. If one could have a more intellectually dishonest argument, I am not sure what it would be.

Has the house called these witnesses?

EDIT: Sorry...SIAP (by Moon).

Unless he's got recordings, names and faces there's nothing to say the people doing it are from the left. Who knows? They could be coming from some 400 lb guy sitting in his tighty whities, a kfc chicken leg in one hand and a phone in the other. Stuff dreams are made of.

If these threats were to a democrat, you’d be blaming “white nationalist Nazi baby eating racist deplorable Trump supporters”.

*Snort* You don't think Turley has names, for example, of intimidators?

Maybe he does, maybe he doesn’t. The article sure doesn’t go into any detail either way

Trump AS POTUS, threatened and attacked a U.S. ambassador, including while she was testifying against his actions.

And here you are raging against random people who are asking his university to fire him?

That's not even a double standard...your tolerance of POTUS doing far worse...on a regular basis, hurts the nation. People asking for Turley to be fired, because he was pissing on the nation by subtlety engaging in deception as he defended Trump, doesn't even register.

Oh, it's Trump's fault. I forgot that one, thanks.

The attack on Turley is totally unfounded. But, after that day ended and the Dem's realized it did not go well, their best bet was to attack the messenger.

You think it's some coordinated effort from the Dem's?
Why is it alway a lone wolf acting alone when a conservative does something bad, but it's always the Dems as a whole with you right wingers?

There you go. Go with that. Probably didn't even happen, right?

Probably not. If it did happen we’d know something like the nature of the threats, who made them and how many such threats there actually were. As yet you don’t know the answer to any of that.

-"Reich-Wing TEAt Party GOPutins support this behavior from Team Trump." - Linc

-"Yeah, they sure as **** don't want a comparison of the death toll of white nationalists in this country compared to the far left." - SouthernDemocrat

-"How was Barron disrespected? Well, for starters, his father cheated on his mother with a porn star while she was pregnant with him. But hey, I totally care what a woman who wore a coat that said "I really don't care, do u" during the height of media scrutiny over her husband's decision to rip children from their parents and confine them to cages, while she visited said cages, says about how we should treat children." - Slyfox696

-"Since Turley seems unable to qualify or quantify these supposed “threats,” I’m going to assume that his claims are false." - Cardinal

Does ANY of this sound like what sane people would say? Turley had been threatened to be removed from the university he works at because he said there was NO impeachable offenses that Trump committed. To date, the Democrats have presented NO evidence to back it up so his claim is correct. This guy is not a Trump supporter, but as soon as he said that Trump shouldn't be impeached, the Left, in all their tolerance, love, and conviction, are threatening to ruin this man's life. Here's the leaked email received from Sara Carter's website, and here's what it said:

“I hope this message finds you all well, ladies and gentleman. Aside from Mr. Turley, of course.
I am writing you all after listening to Jonathan Turley’s disgraceful statement defending the corrupt and impeachable actions of President Trump at the House Judiciary impeachment hearing today. I know you all cringe inside knowing that you are affiliated in some way with Turley and have to work or study at the same institution in which he is employed. By no means should he be considered a Republican. If anything, his legal and political philosophies entertain the more Liberal stance. He is defending the indefensible and I hope that all of the Deans at GWU Law and the students will recognize that he is not serving in the best interest of our country and is a detriment to the success of your school’s future reputation. His actions today were spineless and shameful. He is clearly a lackey for the Trump Administration. I trust you will act appropriately and reprimand this sad excuse of a man.”

The author of the email was a student of the university to the administrators, calling for the removal of Turley. Now, this is 1 email, but I'm sure there are more. I don't know if the other 3 witnesses were threatened, but if I had to guess they probably weren't because the media would have been ALL over it. They have been silent on Turley. They ignored what Turley said entirely during his testimony because it didn't fit their narrative. The bottom line is the Left hates Trump because they didn't pick him, and their ideas are being rejected in favor of ideas that actually work. They're losing voters and support quickly because people are wising up to their ideology. It's not even so much anger at Trump, but at the people who voted for them. Pretty soon, they will start proposing no more elections nor debates. Their ideas are losing issues because it only benefits them. That's why they're enraged.

Jonathan Turley '''inundated with threatening messages''' after testimony opposing Trump impeachment | Fox News

Jonathan Turley, the sole Republican witness during the House Judiciary Committee's first public impeachment hearing Wednesday, said he was "inundated with threatening messages" after his testimony, which argued that Democrats do not have enough evidence to support articles of impeachment against President Trump.

"Before I finished my testimony, my home and office were inundated with threatening messages and demands that I be fired from George Washington University for arguing that, while a case for impeachment can be made, it has not been made on this record," Turley wrote in an op-ed for The Hill on Thursday.

The tolerant, open minded Democrats showing us what they are really about. We've seen it over and over. Threats of violence, destroy lives, if they don't get their way. You will think correctly, or be dealt with. Old East Germany, anyone?

The right wing has made lots of death threats, you've never once criticized them.

I see the resident clowns have already showed up to blow snot all over the thread.

Expect more to come.

yeah whataboutism at its pernicious worst

All the proof needed to show Turley made it all up and it’s a lie. Great job, you smoked him out! Thanks, we almost believed it!

Spare us your crocodile tears.

You go to any far-right political forum or any social media platform and you will see, daily, threats of violence against Democrats and patriotic civil servants.

Most recently, Vindman and the Whistleblower were threatened with violence...where were your complaints then?

And on a near-weekly basis we see threats like these published in far-right news outlets:

Four Were Hanged In 1865 Democrat Coup Involving Lincoln’s Assassination - None from 2016 Democrat Coup to Take Out Trump

A close watch of the far-right, racist militia groups, like the Oathkeepers, and you will see frequent calls for a second Civil War.

His argument is that the House hasn’t completed the investigative process. When one branch of government is at odds with another, the next step is to get the judicial branch to resolve the conflict.

The problem is that the WH argument is as follows:

NO investigation of any kind should be allowed, NO subpoenas of any kind should be allowed, everything and anyone is off-limits. Congress cannot access any document or question any witness. The WH has "absolute immunity" and so on. That's not true. It has no basis in our law or our history. These aren't good-faith arguments.

It’s irrelevant what your version of the White House arguments are. The House has a responsibility to follow the process which includes going to the courts to resolve any conflicts with the executive branch.

That's is what the left has become. Toe the line, surrender, submit to orders, or be destroyed.

Think about it. What kind of witness was this bitter Karlan character. She is on record and video talking about her disgust for President Trump. She claims to have crossed the street rather than walk past the front of a Trump hotel in D.C.

And that's someone anyone should pay attention to?

I agree with Turley. We need to interview more witnesses...people like Bolton, Mulvaney, Rudy, and Pompeo.

Don't you agree?

Are you under the impression that this never happens to left wing people? It just astounds me that people are in such denial. That little climate activist 13(?) year old received threats also. Republican/conservatives put Vindman in danger by accusing him of being a spy against the country by right wingers even though he's a purple heart veteran with an amazing record. This whole "the other side is just awful for doing what both sides do" crap is just nonsense. We should attack any and all that engage in that behavior.

Anyone threatening anyone else should be charged with terroristic threats, fined and jailed.

This is unacceptable.

It wasn't the democrats who booted out the few democrats that were against impeachment. You're thinking of republicans. So basically your entire statement makes as much sense as a screen door on a submarine.

It’s irrelevant what your version of the White House arguments are.

The good news for you is we don't have to rely on my version of what their arguments are.

This is their argument. All of you to do is read the briefs and the rulings.

All of it is publicly available. Read the documents.

The House has a responsibility to follow the process which includes going to the courts to resolve any conflicts with the executive branch.

The problem with respect to the President's behavior is that their argument consists of a blanket refusal to comply with any and all subpoenas. They are not asserting executive privilege. They are just flat-out refusing to comply with anything on asserting a strange, new, fake doctrine called absolute immunity that has NO basis in the Constitution:

Judge rejects 'absolute immunity' argument and rules Don McGahn must testify to House

A federal judge ruled former White House counsel Don McGahn must testify before Congress.

The ruling on Monday by U.S. District Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is a victory for House Democrats, who have faced resistance from the White House, which has used the same "absolute immunity" argument to prevent McGahn from testifying to prevent other former officials from speaking out against President Trump in the impeachment proceedings.

Sooner or later you guys are going to have to terms with the fact that Trump and his lawyers are thugs who do not believe in the Constitution. They would make Trump a dictator if they could.

Just a couple of points. Liberals on social media are inundated with all kinds of threats, as I'm sure are conservatives. It's the risk of being a high profile person in this highly partisan era. If you don't believe it, just ask ANY of them, especially women and minorities - gay or black or brown or Jewish. So it's disgusting that a small number of demented assholes go online or make calls or emails with threats, but that's just part of life these days in the public eye.

Second, that email is perhaps misguided, but I don't see anything wrong with it. It's literally what free speech looks like, which is the ability to peacefully and in the case of the email actually pretty politely express disagreement and criticism towards high profile individuals who have power and influence. There's not a hint of any threat in that email, just disagreement, and a belief by a student that Turley poorly reflects on the institution. I don't see how that's beyond the pale in that instance.

Frankly, I thought his performance was pretty bad, mostly because Trump Turley appeared to disagree with Clinton Turley, and he repeatedly demanded proof of a QPQ while the alleged perpetrator of it issued a blanket order to obstruct the House from getting ANY of that evidence, and he endorsed the silly idea that attempts at blanket obstruction of the impeachment inquiry are fine until the SC has ruled on every lawsuit. None of that matters, really, except that expressing that opinion or anything like it, including directing it to GW, is exactly the kind of free speech the 1A is intended to protect and ENCOURAGE. Turley puts himself out in the public eye and clearly relishes his role in that debate, and if he doesn't expect others to criticize him, he's an self righteous asshole and snowflake whiner, and no one should worry about criticism like that in the email or what he feels about it.

So when is the House going to take these issues to the court for resolution? That’s the only logical and reasonable step the House should take.

They don't know. People like Anthony are watching Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity exclusively. They don't trust any other source of information.

And the ones that do know, don't care. You see, Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity, in addition to not reporting all the news, also go to great lengths to dehumanize Democrats.

So when is the House going to take these issues to the court for resolution? That’s the only logical and reasonable step the House should take.

All of this will be resolved in the courts relatively soon, assuming the Trump administration respects and abides by the Court rulings instead of just ignoring them (which I think is very likely given the thuggish, authoritarian, fascist mentality he and his supporters have).

That's not my argument though.

My argument is that Trump and his lawyers should not be making these bad-faith arguments, to begin with.

My argument is that if you were a real conservative who actually believed in the Constitution, and not just your short-term policy goals, you would have a problem with Trump and his lawyers making these crazy legal arguments that have no merit.

Yes, the courts are the proper venue for this, but some cases shouldn't be in any court, to begin with. Trump should have enough respect for the Constitution to not be making claims of "absolute immunity." And then if he had legitimate claims of executive privilege, he should be making those on a case by case basis, as they relate directly to the facts and the circumstances of each particular case. That's NOT what he's doing though.
