Possible pay-to-play scheme for ambassador role in Trump administration uncovered by CBS News

you forget the left is the party of i said it so therefore it is true.
even though there isn't any facts or other evidence to support it.

all they need is accusations.
they have become the party of "it's a witch"

I blame the public schools for not teaching the difference between an allegation and the burden of proof. This stuff is elementary.
We are really living in some loony times.

I'm not sure if this sort of thing is super unheard of.

Well it seems to be heck a lot more common now than it ever used to be. Normally about a 1/3 of ambassador nominations go to 'political supporters' of the President, with this President over half. And usually not to diplomatic posts regarded being highly sensitive ones because generally political supporters are often not experienced in foreign or diplomatic relations and the intricacies of the politics of particular countries and or regions. The potential consequences of which can be easily seen with what has happened with Mr Sondland. Another member of the million dollar club.

How does your article prove anything?

The Daily Aztec is San Diego State's school newspaper, btw.

He apparently likes them young too as he prefers to be called "Papa Doug". Come to Papa!

I mean, I could see that Trump would be doing this far more often than past Presidents. He's just not breaking new ground here is all.

You live in the eternal now, apparently. (Hint: This is SOP)

Nostalgic stuff there. Let's reminiscence about the times when there used be an actual vetting process.

... he is a nominee, he will have a hearing. You are letting CBS make you look ignorant.

Didn't Sondland cough up a million for his ambassadorship? A million a pop, I guess.

If I read through this thread, would I be right in assuming various Trumpists are trying to say "leftists" are hypocrites because Democrat politicians may behave in a vaguely similar way at times, even though people on the left are generally the people who hated Citizens United specifically because of how much of this **** the entire campaign financing system is set up?

If people want to talk about this with even a shred of honesty then it must be admitted that gifting ambassadorships to big donors is business as usual. It’s not “vaguely similar” - it’s identical. Bundlers get the cushy positions and those that require skilled work are reserved for seasoned diplomats.

You're ignoring the context here. This isn't about your typical a run of the mill political appointment to ambassadorship. This is just further evidence of rampant corruption. They say a fish rots from the head on down and the rot is permeating throughout this administration fouling nearly everything it touches. The thing is you don't need to be explicit or direct to invite corruption. The President tweets about Manchester and his care package to the Bahamas and promotes his bid for the ambassadorship and just 3 days afterwards the RNC contacts Manchester to see if we would like to make another contribution for $500,000. Not a small amount. Coincidence? Mr Manchester didn't think so either. He knows how the game is played. So what does he do? He emails back "I know I'm not suppose to do this". But here's a 'small' down payment of $100,000 with the promise of more to come later if the RNC might know someone who can somehow find a way get his nomination out of committee and to the floor for a confirmation vote. Now where do you think he may gotten the idea that it would be ok to do something that he says he knew he wasn't suppose to do?

Oh no he won't. Which you would have known if you could read.

Former Senator Bob Corker, who was the chair of the Senate's foreign relations committee before he retired in January, held up Manchester's nomination.

"We had concerns about judgment, about demeanor, about just the whole reason for taking the job," Corker said.

He found McDaniel's fundraising pitch problematic. "The timing of that request obviously was not appropriate," he said.

Even worse, he said, was Manchester's response. His big mistake was copying staffers of two senators who controlled his nomination, Kentucky's Rand Paul and Idaho's Jim Risch, alerting them to his willingness to donate more after confirmation.

"I can only tell you that if I received an email like that, there would have been a five-bell alarm that went off," Corker said.

And that's exactly what happened. Risch alerted the White House, which then asked Manchester to withdraw.

The White House did not immediately respond for comment.

Manchester officially pulled out in October, citing personal reasons.

" The timing " So I'm guessing this is their Plan B ?

No it's "What timing". You apparently don't even know how to properly quote someone. :lamo

My cousin married a guy 40 years ago who fabulously rich because the government passed a law which resulted in his business reaping windfall profits. He was, and I assume is still, a democrat and he had given a lot of money to democrat causes before his ship came in, so to speak.

Politics is big crooked business. You will be hard pressed to find any national politician who has not been played and supported by donors hoping to be rewarded in return for their contributions.

No one cares about your fabulously rich cousin, and his husband. Doesn’t matter. No one cares about your ridiculousness.

Speaking of vetting.

Senior Trump admin official Mina Chang resigns after embellishing resume

Senior Trump administration official Mina Chang resigned from her job at the State Department two and a half hours after NBC News went to her spokesperson to ask about newly discovered false claims she had made about her charity work.

NBC News had previously reported that Chang, the deputy assistant secretary in the State Department's Bureau of Conflict and Stability Operations, had embellished her resume with misleading claims about her educational achievements and the scope of her nonprofit's work — even posting a fake cover of Time magazine with her face on

The incompetence continues unabated.

No cultist comrade democrat communist party member gives a flip about anything or anyone outside the democrat party and democrat politicians.

I wonder how many ambassadorships, judgeships, or other government job appointees down through history can be tied to at least some cash donation on the part of the nominee for the vacancy? Thousands?

Yeah, the old, “they all do it” excuse. The one the talk radio right trots out ever time their guy does it!

Giving Ambassadorships to political allies and major fundraisers has never been unusual. Nor is it unique to the United States.

But selling them for contributions to a slush fund (which is what the Trump Inauguaral Committee was), isn’t.

Nor is openly shaking someone down like this.
