[W:3]Santa Clarita, California, high school shooting leaves multiple people injured, suspect

Before the solution comes the cause...

Looks like the cause is severe depression...

Jared Axen, believed the suspect had been going through a tough time in his life.

"From what I understand, the suspect had been the one who had found his father's body inside the house. You're always looking, as a community, for ways you can reach out to the person next to you, someone you know is going through something," Axen said. "What's hard is that the answer you sometimes get is, 'Oh, I'm fine.' You need to be wiling to press them for information."

Axen also talked about how he'd known the suspect since he was born and how he was a quiet and polite boy.

Let's tell it as it is: These school shootings are no longer shocking.

We have become accustomed to them.

They may be the result of the fact that American society in many respects is a very sad society.

Many people, including the young, feel alienated and angry.

There is really little that can be done about these shootings.

There's plenty we can do.
Reduce the Despair Quotient, increase upward mobility.
That's a good start.

Hope they catch this one alive and pick their brain, figure out the "why" to help prevent future madness

The only good thing about this shooting is the mild amusement I get watching all the brain-damaged gun control advocates reacting to this by saying Congress needs to pass universal background checks, when CA already has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country, including background checks on all purchases.

Do I have this right that the shooter 16 years old lost his dad in the past year? He decides on his birthday to kill shoot up his classmates using one of his dad's guns on his birthday and then shoot himself in an attempted suicided? Am I correct? If so this was a troubled soul, that needed help.

Actually, they always describe the perpetrator's race and sex. Watch the local news and listen when there is a shooting or something.

I respectfully disagree with your statement: They do NOT "always" announce a perp's ethnicity when reporting crimes to the public.

Many people feel that it is "racist" to do so.

Believe me: Like many other people, I DO watch the local news for the DAILY crime reports here in Los Angeles. E.g., a homeless individual here has just poured a container of excrement over the head of a pedestrian. His ethnicity was NOT reported. And, oh yes, he has been released.

Have a nice weekend.

There are many good reasons why certain aspects of profile matters. Could be culture, or just a culture of crime apart from race which drives some kinds of criminal acts. Have you ever hard of an 85 year old Swiss grandmother hijacking a commercial airline?

You are 100% right, Court Jester.

That is why I was astonished that the authorities had rushed to announce that the shooter was of X ethnicity.

When a crime (such as a liquor store robbery that results in murder) is committed by an individual of Y or Z ethnicity, the media are very reluctant to report the perp's ethnicity, lest it put Y or Z in a bad light. But it seems that the media are not so sensitive to the feelings of X ethnicity.

Re: Santa Clarita, California, high school shooting leaves multiple people injured, suspect at large

It's sad that a kid has to resort to violence like this to get his frustration or message across. But, he sees this played out by adults all across the country. The anarchy the left are perpetrating on America is exactly what they were taught by Saul Alinsky, Bill Ayers and others of the 1960's. Adults have caused this and I don't see adults stopping their division attempts any time soon. Do you?

Bingo!

In answer to the last two words in your post: NO, I do NOT.

The farce that is currently occurring in D.C. shows us that unscrupulous Dems (there are, of course, some good Dems) are hurting our country and encouraging divisiveness.

Have a nice weekend!

Re: Santa Clarita, California, high school shooting leaves multiple people injured, suspect at large

With Calif's strict gun laws, how in the world could this have happened I ask?

Re: Santa Clarita, California, high school shooting leaves multiple people injured, suspect at large

These pukes rarely try to live through enough to see justice.

True, that's why I hope we catch them, because figuring out if there is a pattern that can be applied to prevent future shootings, help people before they reach the "**** the world" point... be a lot more effective than any other option out there. Kinda like how the FBI figured out how to profile serial killers.

today was the shooter's birthday, he turned 16....there are 2 children that are now dead and two sets of parents grieving the loss of their children. Tell me, where does a 16 year old get a gun? A .45? when do we start charging parents for giving their children access to the gun cabinet? for those saying he is dead, I heard he is still alive, in grave condition.

I understand his age. I am a parent, my kids have moved out into the world, but if life taught me anything it's that a kids tend to find a way into places and access things that they should not. I won't go into the discussion of guns and control as this is not a thread for such.

Re: Santa Clarita, California, high school shooting leaves multiple people injured, suspect at large

Why would he go to hell? All he had to do was ask for forgiveness and he's in heaven. Now if the poor girl who died was an atheist....

It is sad that once again an American school is a murder scene. It's becoming "normal."
You really have no concept of religion or you wouldn't make such a statement.

Kids have access to the car keys and kill way more people than mass shooters.

Oh stop the nonsense. With school shootings the shooter is INTENTIONALLY targeting others to kill them....surely you are smart enough to distinguish the difference in accidents and murder

Re: Santa Clarita, California, high school shooting leaves multiple people injured, suspect at large

These pukes rarely try to live through enough to see justice.

Yep, shooting themselves in the head tends to limit that possibility.

Re: Santa Clarita, California, high school shooting leaves multiple people injured, suspect at large

Yep, shooting themselves in the head tends to limit that possibility.

That it does. Rather these kids sit in prison for the rest of their lives and serve as case studies so we can learn more about this. But most of the time, they take the coward's way out.

Though I heard that this kid is not all the way dead yet, but in a grievous state. So, while unlikely, perhaps he'll make it to face justice.

The cause is parents allowing kids access to guns and not getting them mental health treatment

The cause (motive) is unknown as is the source of the gun. Trying to shift blame from the shooter based on "someone else must share the blame" is moronic.

But why? Why do kids feel the need to do this? What in their lives makes them so desperate?

There are likely many and various reasons for someone "going postal" and blaming (random?) others for one's personal problems. To assume that all "mass shooting" motives are the same, or even similar, is unfounded.

Criminals, by definition, violate laws.

That is a noble goal, yet one must be very careful in allowing the government to "profile" folks and then decide that they (involuntarily) need help. Profiling a serial killer (looking for a criminal perp) is a lot different than guessing (even based on solid statistics) that a person yet to engage in any violent or criminal activity is dangerous.

Even if they "face justice" as a minor the sentence is typically severely limited. The attempted suicide would also likely enhance an insanity defense.

I would agree that mental health is an issue. But, I think it's more. We don't have mechanisms to deal with mental issues like depression or being jilted. We have a country that solves problems violently and has been taught this now since the 1960's. The country has to get back to God and sanity. The LGBTQRST... have only hurt kids. Not helped them.

I think I know what you are trying to say, but...oy vey.

If we have an idea of what to look for we can prevent tragedies, get people help earlier. I agree that"you have to be careful" but there is a good reason to figure out what makes someone go bat**** insane.

Attempted suicide, perhaps committing suicide, being incapable of committing suicide and wanting to be eliminated? Perhaps it is that suicide isn't "loud" enough, drawing attention to pitiful self by shooting others before being eliminated makes a greater statement?
If I understand correctly, this young man is still alive and could eventually give us some insight.

There is also considerable harm in "officially" (by the government) being labeled as "bat**** insane".
