'''Not only is impeachment dead on arrival, there'''s a risk that the Senate doesn'''t even take it up,''' Matt Whitaker says | Fox News

Former Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker backed Sen. Lindsey Graham’s assertion that the House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry will be “dead on arrival” if it’s not conducted fairly before it reaches the Senate.

“Not only is it dead on arrival, there’s a risk that the Senate doesn’t even take it up as it is a completely partisan exercise where [there are] only Democrat witnesses, only Democrats’ votes, and Republicans’ rights to due process and fairness are not honored,” Whitaker told “Outnumbered Overtime.”

Graham, R-S.C., accused House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., of not caring about the truth, and said Schiff’s impeachment efforts would go nowhere unless he called the anonymous whistleblower to come forward and testify about the complaint against President Trump.

“It’s impossible to bring this case forward, in my view, fairly, without us knowing who the whistleblower is and having a chance to cross-examine them about any biases they may have,” he said. “So, if they don’t call the whistleblower in the House, this thing is dead on arrival in the Senate.” Senator Graham

Then I guess we'll move on to the 4th thing.

This is never going to end. Just saying.

I love the fact McConnell is willing to set up the precedence that as long as the senate views it as “unfair” then they won’t take it up. I would use that as an election year campaign that Dems need to win because the senate will always vote to never take up impeachment. That will ensure a dem senate for years to come.

Any republican that has said anything negative about Reid is a ****ing hypocrite for supporting McConnell who took what Reid did and multiplied it by 50, which includes just about every republican now.

The only way for the Dems to remove Trump from office is to do it by an election. So far the candidates they are running have little chance of defeating him.

Fun to watch someone so desperate they'd be compelled to lie about Schiff playing 'partisan games'.

If the GOP has been more than welcomed to cooperate with the impeachment proceedings. You don't get to go home, and take the ball with you. They should remember impeachment was written into the constitution in lieu of guillotines.

I don't think McConnell ever said the Senate wouldn't take it up.

This is exactly the sort of fascist behavior that whistleblower protection laws are designed to protect against.

Naturally, every last ****ing "small government" conservative will back this idea.

So someone who has no power offers his partisan opinion. I should give a **** about his opinion why?

That's funny, I say the same thing about you.

Then I would suggest not reading my post, instead of making stupid threads about what I say...

See the post directly below yours. Libertarian, even.

I don't think an OP screaming and yelling with bold and hysterically large font constitutes the beginning of a debate. The OP appears to be mouth-foamed garbage and I can't imagine anyone bothering to examine that dumpster fire.

It's an interesting position for them to take. Whether it is the wise choice will depend on what public sentiment will be once the public hearings begin. If it becomes clear for many that the concerns brought up did point to Trump abusing his power, then not taking up an impeachment trial will look bad on the GOP. I think it's too early to tell which way this will swing just yet.

McConnell's not stupid enough to refuse to take up the impeachment hearing. He knows how guilty Republicans would look, and he would be forsaking the only possible small ray of sunshine in this whole, horrible affair: the opportunity to claim acquittal.

No, impeachment will go to the Senate, and then we can all relax to the primal scream of Lindsey Graham as he re-enacts his Kavanaugh moment.

He may win the war over conviction but don't rule out the loss of his seat in selling his soul for the thug and crime boss who sits in the Oval Office.

Interesting, no specifics though. What I think Graham is talking about is once the House passes the articles of impeachment. A senator make a motion to dismiss the charges. To dismiss requires a simple majority. Democratic Senator Robert Byrd tried this back in 1998 with the impeachment of Bill Clinton.

The motion to dismiss was going nowhere back in 1999 due to the fact the Republicans had firm control of the senate, they were in the majority. Today, the Republicans are still in the majority, there is a decent chance if the motion to dismiss all charges against Trump might actually pass. If it does, you have to thank Democratic Senator Robert Byrd for using the precedence. Much like Senator Harry Reid's setting the precedence for use of the nuclear option.

The senate should start their own investigation into schiffforbrains conduct. They should call witnesses schifffirbrains will not allow the Republicans to call. They should start with the whistle blower and Schiffforbrains. Any refusal to testify is obstruction. Two can play that game.

I'm glad somebody believes they understand this procedure, because I've been trying to figure it out for the last several days!

Not really. The Senate doesn't have the authority to investigate the House and visa versa. They can only investigate and reprimand their own members.

What do you expect when the Democrats bucked 50 years of bipartisan precedent establishing how to conduct impeachment inquiries fairly?

I know this must seem insane to you BUT...If its wrong for one its wrong for everyone. And if a political party knows its wrong and does it anyways it makes them scum. Just because the opposing faction do lame crap does not it ok for your side to do lame crap.
