[W:66]Rep. Pete King, longtime N.Y. congressman, latest in slew of GOP retirements

Re: Rep. Pete King, longtime N.Y. congressman, latest in slew of GOP retirements

eh. I tend to respond to directed posts.

Again, I just pointed out that you were commenting on the wrong person. Most people would acknowledge that and move on.

And I'm moving on now.

Funny I didn't direct my first post to you. I responded to smjay who mentioned STEVE King. I know this thread was about Pete King but that doesn't mean I can't respond to a post concerning STEVE King. If you had left it alone it would have been 1 post but your obsession with me referencing STEVE King and trying to point out how wrong I am made it much more than a simple comment on how much of a scumbag racist prick STEVE King remains. I'm done if you are.

Re: Rep. Pete King, longtime N.Y. congressman, latest in slew of GOP retirements

King got out because he saw the writing on the wall. He saw what happened in PA. He saw what happened in VA.

He knows his district use to be heavily Republican and Conservative, and he use to win his elections by double digits, but in last years election he beat a totally unknown Dem by only 6% points..

20+ years ago in Nassau County, 1 of the counties in his district, Republicans outnumbered the Democrats, 360,000 to 257,000. In 2019 the number of Democrats is now 411,000. The number of Republicans is 330,000.

Trump is killing the Republican Party, especially in the suburbs. For that, and only that I thank Donald Trump.

Re: Rep. Pete King, longtime N.Y. congressman, latest in slew of GOP retirements

Another republican retirement.

Rep. Pete King, longtime N.Y. congressman, latest in slew of GOP retirements

Longtime Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y., announced Monday he will retire from Congress at the end of his term.

"I have decided not to be a candidate for re-election to Congress in 2020," King, 75, said in a statement. "I made this decision after much discussion with my wife Rosemary; my son Sean; and my daughter Erin. The prime reason for my decision was that after 28 years of spending 4 days a week in Washington, D.C., it is time to end the weekly commute and be home in Seaford."

King was just a more intelligent version of Gomert. He was a "muslim basher" as he made excuses for the IRA. Sadly (but not surprisingly) that made perfect sense for his constituents. Here he explains his perfectly "logical" defense of the IRA

“I understand why people who are misinformed might see a parallel,” he said. “The fact is, the I.R.A. never attacked the United States. And my loyalty is to the United States.”

Farewell to Rep. Peter King, terrorism apologist and Muslim basher.

Re: Rep. Pete King, longtime N.Y. congressman, latest in slew of GOP retirements

Attempting to defend the indefensible for political survival is both traitorous and cowardly. The second sentence of your post is nonsensical as are the GOP's attempts to rewrite history.

Of course, because all you do is broadcast.

Re: Rep. Pete King, longtime N.Y. congressman, latest in slew of GOP retirements

Of course, because all you do is broadcast.

Anyone who claims trump withheld aid to Ukraine because he "cares about corruption" has their head up their ass.

Broadcast that.

Who said anything about Trump and Ukraine? I'm sure this thread is about a GOP member retirement. A prime of example of why anyone who bothers to step back from partisanship realizes democrats are FOS. Even more than the republicans.

The impeachment hearings went so well today. :lamo

Dog looked out the window and saw a little snow falling. He only fears rain more than snow. He might get wet. Had to drag him outside. He did his business immediately and ran back inside, lazy as he is he rarely runs. Speaking of broadcasts, he then he saw the hearings on C-Span, came to me with his leash. He decided he'd rather chance it outside. We took a stroll, and much to his relief, no snow, just a bit of arctic blast. Back upstairs, he saw the hearings were still on the boob tube, and he went into the bedroom to lie down. No TV in the bedroom. He's really not political, but he prefers real entertainment on TV.

It ain't over till the fat lady sings, at least she showed up today in drag with a glorious wig. :rofl

Re: Rep. Pete King, longtime N.Y. congressman, latest in slew of GOP retirements

I suspect there is more to this story. I'm betting someone whispered in his ear that his tenure of embarrassing the GOP was over.

King.... embarrassing the GOP?
Is that even possible in the Trump era?
Of course, he did start the whole kerfuffle about Obama wearing that tan suit.....Rep. Peter King Is Angry President Obama Wore A Tan Suit | Talking Points Memo

---------------------------------------

King stated...

“When you have the world watching … a week, two weeks of anticipation of what the United States is gonna do. For him to walk out —I’m not trying to be trivial here— in a light suit, light tan suit, saying that first he wants to talk about what most Americans care about the revision of second quarter numbers on the economy."

---------------------------------------------------

Pretty embarrassing, alright.
But in today's GOP, King would be one of the saner members.

A lot of angry doubletalk spoken by someone frustrated about the abysmal **** show their chosen party has become.

RIP GOP.

Re: Rep. Pete King, longtime N.Y. congressman, latest in slew of GOP retirements

You shouldn't be celebrating prematurely. His district is predominantly Republican, and conservative. The three likely candidates likely to vie as his Republican replacement are far more conservative than King. Chances for a democrat opponent seizing the vacated seat, very slim at best. Their most recently elected representative from his district to the state legislature defeated his democratic opponent with 96% of the votes.

At age 75, it is time for him to retire and enjoy what is left of his life while he can.

I'm celebrating, because it shows the old guard is dead, and the lunatic fringe has completely gone off the rails into insanity.

Re: Rep. Pete King, longtime N.Y. congressman, latest in slew of GOP retirements

You are incorrect. Again, Someone did mention Steve King, and another person pointed out that Pete King was the representative in the article / the topic of the thread. I get that Hari ALSO responded with a comment about to Steve King, which is why I corrected him.

Again - article had nothing to do with Steve King. If you would like to discuss 'Steve King is a horrible person', then you should both start a thread in an appropriate forum.

Anything on Pete King?

Thanks for admitting I was right. Someone mentioned Steve King, and Hari responded to that post.

And I must have missed the announcement that you are now a moderator and are charged with policing what people post in threads. How come that wasn't announced publicly?

Actually, that's incorrect. Someone referenced the wrong congressman (not even by name), and sjmay pointed out the mistake. Hari responded to that comment.

We're all having a discussion here, and anyone can point out a person's mistake as a part of a civil discussion. It's very odd that you and Hari have become so defensive. Seriously, it's time to move on.

I'm done.

I believe you are thinking of Steve King of IA

That guy is an embarrassment to humanity.

No its not correct. I responded to a post about STEVE King. Yes it may have been a correction or whatever but my post was about STEVE King. I realize he is not Pete King who thinks the USA has too many Mosques and sees no problem supporting the IRA because they "didn't attack the USA". I just like to comment on the giant hypocrite and racist scumbag STEVE King. However I thought Pete King was pretty reasonable except of course for the IRA and Mosque nonsense. You seem to not be able to refrain from commenting even after saying "I'm done". Talk about obsession. How about those Isles! The point streak continues and the Leafs and Taveras go home with another loss. The Barn was rocking. They really hate the "traitor". A lot of funny signs at the game, NHL network showed quite a few. Csan't wait to read your next comment even though you are "done". LOL!

Re: Rep. Pete King, longtime N.Y. congressman, latest in slew of GOP retirements

Moderator's Warning:
The topic is Rep. Peter King, who is the subject of the news story. Please stick to discussing him and leave the whataboutism to the exclusion of Rep. Peter King, out of it.

Also, if you see a violation, or think the thread is going off-topic, report it, don't discuss it or play mod.

The new guard are the ranting, raving lunatics like Jim Jordan and the ass kissing brown noser Nunes.

The old republican party is dead.

Long live the king.

Re: Rep. Pete King, longtime N.Y. congressman, latest in slew of GOP retirements

Just like the democrats.

Totally absurd nonsense.

since the 50's with Joe McCarthy, then seditious Newt, now Trump, and all the pundits inbetween, republicans have been stoking the flames of civil war and hatred. This is treason.

Then again, no one in the media has the balls or the spine to point out the obvious; this republican party is a sham, it is not an american party, it is a traitor's party of far right demagogues and traitors to this union who are stoking partisan civil political war among an uneducated mass of dead eyed constituents.

Re: Rep. Pete King, longtime N.Y. congressman, latest in slew of GOP retirements

Yes, I'm proud that at least the Democrats in congress are doing their constitutional duty by investigating trump's obvious abuses of power. The GOP has lost its way - if they even take up the impeachment trial in the Senate they won't convict because the criminal GOP value their jobs over the good of the American people.

Because of trump and the criminal clowns in the GOP - this is a dark time of the USA.

I worked the backrooms of the NY Democratic clubs most of my adult life. The corruption and lies, self enrichment, schemes for defrauding the government and the people couldn't be matched by the Republicans. $50k could buy any idiotic failed lawyer a judgeship with wonderful benefits and a sweet pension. Talk to me about the preponderance of democrat politicians who did time compared to republicans. "A beer and a shot for any vote, two beers and a second shot for a second vote, three beers and two shots for a vote by the dead." The credo of Tamany Hall. Don't think for a minute it is history. Who do you think you are kidding?

Warren and Sanders - "We will give you......." Fill in the blanks. Of course not getting those empty promises through congress creates a scapegoat.

Do you really, honestly believe progressives aren't "demagogues and traitors to this union who are stoking partisan civil political war among an uneducated mass of dead eyed constituents?" :spin::rofl

Both parties are a sham. You need a woken moment.

I would have responded to his post myself but there is a warning that came after you posted this. You straightened him out.

By the way, the Islanders suck! Potvin sucks (I still remember that).
