I honestly do not believe that we look at it through very different glasses.
I may have mentioned this before so if you've heard this, forgive me.
For six years I worked for American-Russian Television at 501 S. Fairfax Blvd in West Hollywood, right below the offices of the old "Panorama Magazine". Together we all produced several hours of Russian news and programming every week for the Soviet diaspora here in the L.A. area.
So there is no way I could even remotely dispute your historical accounting of the Soviet view of WW2, because you're essentially correct.

It's just that you're not taking into account what happened since 1991.
We were, and by that I mean literally, in both 1989 and in 1991, at Ostankino Studios in Moscow.

We watched as western currency bought bogus medical and law degrees for conversion in the United States.
We watched Antarctic ice shelf sized chunks of Soviet state infrastructure get sold off.
We watched tenured professors get put out to pasture with no severance and no path to recommendation for future employment in their fields.
We watched old Soviet pensioners who had paid into the system their entire lives learn their fates.
And we watched Soviet police rob us a second time after being robbed coming out of the airport terminal.
We listened as they yelled "dobro pozhalovat' na rodinu, mudak" добро пожаловать на родину, мудак...
"Welcome back to mother country, asshole!"

It was that day that Sergey Levin and Viktor Netchaev learned their own fates.
You can never go home again, not after something like that.
Sergey and Viktor learned that they were strangers in a strange land that day.

    Who is Sergey Levin?
He's this guy, holding the mic for Sylvester Stallone in Rocky IV
    (He was my boss)

We are not dealing with the old Soviet Union anymore.
That country no longer exists and Putin is an entirely different animal.
    Plus, he's Trump's boss.
