Katie Hill resigns from Congress after leaked naked photo and alleged affairs with male and female a

I think to call her a 'rising star' in the party, could be seen as accurate. She used a knocking-on-doors grassroots campaign to flip a GOP district against Trump, and was one of quite a few freshmen representatives that gave the Speaker's gavel to Nancy Pelosi. These women are widely perceived as representing the future of the party, and representing the new future of America progressing through the new millennium. As such, I think this is a big blow to the party.

Would I have resigned? Likely not, unless I was trying to protect my family. I wouldn't refute my sex life. It's nobody's business but mine. But Rep Hill is making a personal decision that only she can make for herself, so I'll respect it. But such a loss.

Preying on staffers is not a good look for any Congressman.

Right Wing: "Let this be a lesson to ye uppity wimmin who enjoy sex that might think of runnin' fer congress!"

"and showing off your Nazi iron cross tattoo while being a Democrat!"

You might not know this. A boss having sexual relations with someone who reports to his/her is a basis for sexual harassment lawsuits. CEOs have been fired for this activity. Not sure how you could blindly condone this for partisan purposes.

The OP says the husband was also involved in the relationship, so it was the boss and her spouse.

The pressure on this poor young woman must have been enormous.

I agree. Unless, there's something or someone she's otherwise protecting.

But if someone published revenge porn on me? Why would I be embarrassed? The publisher is the bad guy. In fact, revenge porn is becoming illegal in many states. Why would I feel guilty of being a crime victim? It makes no sense.

If the picture is of her naked brushing a staffers hair, who took the picture?

I don't know why she resigned. She's in a red district and she merely displayed some modern Christian "family values". Except she's a woman and probably wouldn't get the same pass the Christian "family values" men get for such behavior.

Caesar’s wife must be above reproach.
See though, this is the problem when you profess to take the high road & the moral (ethical?) high-ground. If you fall short in your personal actions, you're screwed!

See though, if the bolded is true then why is she resigning? It's no one's business what her sex life is. So why resign over it? There must be something she feels she did untoward. Otherwise, why not leave it up to the voters?

That's the big question. Sorry to see her go though.

All true. Not sure why she decided as she did. My guess is that she saw no real future in politics, perhaps Pelosi wanted a replacement so there would be an incumbent running in 2020.
The bolded would be my guess. She's taking one for the team.

1st off she had a sexual relationship with someone who she had workplace power over. Not only is that morally wrong it’s a violation of house rules. 2nd she lied and claimed it didn’t happen. 3rd the pictures also show her using drugs that were illegal at the time. And 4th which few seem to mention she has a white supremacist symbol as a tattoo

People keep saying that she has a tattoo but nobody could point it out.

I can agree with you because I've always believed that a persons sex life, as long as it involves mutually consenting adults, should never be an issue.

Prostitution, same-sex, groups, bondage, whatever.

The problem I have (not with you) in general is that some seem to think such things ARE everyone's business. So it's okay to lambast (for example) Trump and sundry, but excuse those who share ones political views.

Some people do it to point out the blatant hypocrisy.

Her affair was with a subordinate in her campaign. Professionally unethical.

In her case, the bad guy is a conservative website pushing the photos to conservative voters who would bring them up for the rest of her political career. Hill is a 32 year old woman who probably wasn't looking forward to dealing with that for say, the next few decades. Instead, she can fade off into relative anonymity and live a life outside of the spotlight.

I think it's totally wrong that she should be made to feel this way over something consensual that should have remained private, but I'm also not the one who had nude pictures of me floating around the net.
I can respect this. But I'll say this: it's not smart to let others film you, or worse yet film yourself, while in compromising situations. Perhaps even stupider, are the idiots that film their crimes! Wha?

See though, this is the problem when you profess to take the high road & the moral (ethical?) high-ground. If you fall short in your personal actions, you're screwed!

This whole thing is so typically Democrat. Republicans are free to be the worst human beings on earth, and when Democrats fail to be perfect they must resign. And guess who ends up in control of the government at the end of that particular equation?

Democrats need to learn that the alternative to evil isn't perfection, but the struggle for betterment. One can strive to be good, trip and fall, and yet stand back up again and stay in the game.

I don't think anybody here truly believes that Katie Hill demonstrated that she was unfit to be in Congress, but she failed some contrived purity test, and now she has to leave in shame while Republicans shield a guy who has so many sexual assault claims against him that I don't even know what the tally is anymore.

in this day and age where almost anyone who is over the age of 12 has a camera (phone) the chances of someone taking a nude photo of you goes way up. I mean you could be walking out of a shower and your spouse or lover is playing with their phone and they are taking pictures of you. And then if the relationship goes south, they post them on some far right or far left site to embarrass you.

I don't know how the pictures got out but if its her Ex-or soon to be ex-he's a scumbag and ought to have his sorry ass nailed to the wall
Right now, I'm leaning to the ex as the culprit. If the menage-a-trois girl was responsible, I suspect she would instead blackmail Hill (legally or otherwise) for some serious bucks. But you know, with sexual triangles like this you never know who has developed emotional bonds with who; and who feels scorned.

She was doomed when her staffers began to hint that their affairs with the congresswoman were not entirely pleasant. Once they begin to balance remaining in a bad relationship and their job security it's gone beyond the acceptable boundaries. But then, that is why the House proscribes such relationships.
What terrible, terrible, judgement she used. She may be one of mine, but I do condemn her judgement here.

Meh...I see it as the consequences of this morality war you guys have going on down there. The conservatives go crazy when liberals enjoy their sex lives, so the liberals blew up their hypocrisy by going on weird morality witch hunts against conservatives. Now the conservatives are doubling down and throwing that back at them. In a weird way, this was the right thing for her to do to avoid further hypocrisy, but it's a self made trap.

And so the pendulum swings.
I agree.

I still believe in trying to take ethical roads, but when you screw-up be prepared for it to bite hard.

What terrible, terrible, judgement she used. She may be one of mine, but I do condemn her judgement here.

I think the most amazing thing about this story is that she had only been in Congress for 10 months. I mean, how bad is your self control that you go from a nobody to that in 10 months?

If the picture is of her naked brushing a staffers hair, who took the picture?
Not being definitive, but here ex-husband was in at least one menage-a-trois with Hill & a staffer.

But what the hell was she thinking with screwing around with staffers? Amazingly stupid! She can't keep it in her pants. Or, skirt? Whatever. It's a bad quality to have.

I don't know why she resigned. She's in a red district and she merely displayed some modern Christian "family values". Except she's a woman and probably wouldn't get the same pass the Christian "family values" men get for such behavior.

So, she's in a Red district doing "Red" things? They'll probably love her even more! She's perfect for them!

:2razz:

She resigned because her sex partners were staffers not because she had sex partners.

The one that she admitted to was a campaign staffer, and therefore not subject to the ethics. The staffer who was a congressional staffer denies the involvement, as does she. Her resignation makes that appear those denials are lies, but perhaps not.

That's the way it looks to me. Ex husband or affiliated, right?

Ex-husband, and an absolutely disgusting pig if he did spread revenge porn.
