Putting aside the fact that RT, the state run Russian television network, has been supporting Tulsi Gabbard enthusiastically, there's other reasons why I have suspected for more than a year that she's a Russian operative.
Two years ago in 2017, democrats were stunned when Tulsi Gabbard announced that she had met with Bashar al-Assad during a trip to Syria and dismissed his entire opposition as “terrorists”. She stated that she 'hadn't planned' on meeting him but in her own words; “When the opportunity arose to meet with him, I did so, because I felt it’s important that if we profess to truly care about the Syrian people, about their suffering, then we’ve got to be able to meet with anyone that we need to if there is a possibility that we could achieve peace. And that’s exactly what we talked about.” Does it sound normal to you that a US Congresswoman can get an impromptu private meeting with Bashar al-Assad when it's difficult enough for his barber to get him to come for a haircut? That's a joke of course, but I'm trying to emphasize how out of the norm and unusual it is for anyone, even a member of the U.S. Congress to have a private 'impromptu' meeting with Assad.
Check Tulsi Gabbard's record on Syria. Do a little reading about her record. You'll discover that her record on Syria, though it may appear as 'pro-peace' on the surface, actually aligns with regime propaganda. She aligns with the Assad regime so much so that the Hawaii teachers' association backed her opponent in the 2018 midterms, citing her support of President Bashar al-Assad as a primary reason they did so.
She voted for restricting resettlement of Syrian refugees and against condemning the Assad regime for war crimes. She met with Bashar al-Assad in the name of "truly caring for the Syrian people," Tulsi Gabbard has raised skepticism that the regime was behind the 2017 chemical weapons attack. She has supported the Syrian and Russian regimes in their bombing campaigns on multiple occasions and espouses a narrative that paints the entire armed Syrian opposition as 'al-Qaeda terrorists', erasing the legitimate call from Syrians for a regime change of their own, and defining the narrative as a US-driven regime-change war.
Hillary Clinton is not the only one, many have called Gabbard an Assad apologist. She fundamentally skews the dynamics of the Syrian crisis in a way that aligns with regime propaganda, voted against allowing in Syrian refugees and against condemning Assad's war crimes, and makes statements that go against the findings of human rights organizations.
Tulsi Gabbard needs to be held accountable for spreading misinformation in a way that benefits a genocidal dictator. That's why progressives in Tulsi Gabbard's district have been trying to hold her accountable for her record on Syria, and other issues, but Tulsi Gabbard has a history of being unavailable at town halls and she declines invitations for local debate. She just doesn't have the answers to their hard questions, that's why she has very few public town halls and doesn't participate in local debates.
