The question we should be asking is, "Is it true that we allow people living in Orange County to pretend they live in New Zealand?"

They did need to be dealt with, but Trump has brilliantly demonstrated that the US alone cannot do it. I do hope that whoever comes in after Trump will keep the pressure on China and also aggregate some help from our allies in pressuring change from China.

He certainly demonstrated HE cannot do it.
Thing is, if we decide to unhitch our wagon from China with regard to trade, the following will happen:

1. A lot of manufacturing will move elsewhere. No, not back to the USA, although a few will.
Try Vietnam. What does move back here will be largely automated.

2. Such an unwinding process would indeed take months, or even years. In the meantime, shortages and wild price fluctuations.

3. We have transferred most of the valuable technology TO China already. It's not like one can unring a bell.

The sheep lost that vote in Parliament... but they are resolute and will try again, no doubt.
