Rep. Elijiah Cummings of Maryland died Thursday morning, according to his office.

The Democratic congressman has represented Maryland's 7th Congressional District since 1996 and served as the chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, which is one of the committees involved in the impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump.

RIP Rep. Cummings. He was a remarkable and honorable man, so rare to find in politics these days. My condolences go out to his family.

Yes it was. I didnt even know the guy was ill. He did seem like a decent and honorable man. RIP

How shocking! He was such and fine and honourable person -- a huge loss. I have no doubt he'll rest in peace.

I echo the sentiments of people here thus far and am saddened by this.

My hope is that others pick up his fight.
 
Such a distinguished gentleman. Not many Congressmen have great friends on both sides of the aisle as he did. They respected him.
 
I saw him speak at a local political dinner a couple of years ago.

I have never heard a more forceful or persuasive speaker.

He began low and slow, drawing the audience in, and built steadily throughout his speech. He ended with the sort of ringing declaration that folks who only saw him on cable TV are used to hearing. He had the audience in the palm of his hand.

He was made of much stronger stuff than the blow dried prevarications and wannabe celebrities that we have so much of today.

He believed in a sense of duty, honor, respect, and the values enshrined in the Constitution.

And he looked you right in the eye when he shook your hand,
 
Maybe the folks in Baltimore have a decent shot with their next congressman elect, and I feel for the family, much as it is, he had one, but let's not conflate his political career with his personal. He was noit an honorable man who respected the constitution, please. He was, as most of them are, a piece of crap, and only cared about one singular thing.

I didn't realize he was only 68 which happens to be my age!

That is sad news and a reminder to all that we all must exit and usually it is sooner than we think.

Agreed. Prayers for his family and those closest to him who have been impacted by his death.

But lets not canonize a racist bigot who did little to lift up the country, and couldn't even be bothered with the plight of many of people who put him in office.

I'm not required by ideological threats to kiss the butt of a man who did harm to the country, and only served himself.

Name the mans political legislative accomplishments.
