50 percent say they would vote for Democratic candidate over Trump | TheHill

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Fifty percent of Americans said they would vote for the Democratic presidential nominee over President Trump, according to a new Georgetown University Politics Battleground Poll.

The survey, which was released hours before the fourth Democratic primary debate, also found that 42 percent of respondents would choose Trump over the eventual Democratic nominee.

It's about time people came to their senses. Another four years of this egotistical, uneducated philanderer will sink this country to wars & depressions.

That's fifty percent of AMERICANS, not likely voters or even registered voters. Were children allowed to participate in the poll?

count me among them. i hope that they choose someone who can win. it's time for Tweety to go.

Things are about to get very bad for Tweety Bird. The drip of scandal has become a torrent and it's coming from the inside. He can't blame 'fake news' or Democrats when it's his own people giving evidence under oath that's sinking him.

He is well beyond defensible now. He's become a parody of a corrupt Head of State and will be remembered along with the likes of Suharto, Marcos and Chavez.

It is a lot easier to say democrat when you don't know who that person is.

If we really want to see effective change more people neee to commit to neither voting for a democrat or Trump

Meanwhile Trump is trying to get us out of war and the economy is great and unemployment is better than it’s been in 50 years. I bet you thought Hillary would win too. You

I want a poll of electoral college members, since the voters don’t matter.

I wish. That kind of bit me in the butt in 2016.

I don't consider it to have bitten me because I am able to look myself in the mirror knowing I didn't vote for either of the horrible candidates we were going to get stuck with.

Methinks they ought to vote in the primaries then, so they can try to pick their preferred candidate.

I can't argue with that. I do feel better knowing that I wasn't going to contribute to a victory of either major party candidate. I underestimated how terrible Trump is though. I don't wish for Clinton instead because that's the kind of "woulda shoulda coulda/grass might have been greener" thing that isn't helpful, but I do want Trump to lose reelection. Are you involved with any third party or alternative candidate causes or organizations that you think are effective?

Trump started a war by pulling our troops out of Northern Syria. Today the Russians are in our former camps & the Kurds are being slaughtered by the invading Turks, invited in by Trump. Happy now? Because your statement is flat wrong. And he has done nothing to help the economy. We are still riding the crest of the surge that started under Obama.

The stars at night are big & bright...

I've done some work with local third parties and we've gotten a few names on local ballots but nothing effective that would prevent Trump or whomever crappy candidate wins the Democratic nomination out of office.

My wife passed a sign on her way home that read 'I will vote for anyone with a brain in 2020.'

Same here. It's frustrating as hell. I think that Buttigieg might not suck and that I might be able to genuinely support him, but I don't really feel like putting him and the country through a homophobic campaign either.

There are more Dems than Reps. The methodology is valid.

I don't know how old the methodology - 42% dems, 38% repubs, 20% indepts - is, but the most recent figures of party affiliations are:

Pew Research 2018:

31% democrats
26% republicans
38% independents
5% confused

Gallup September 2019:

31% democrats
29% republicans
38% independents
2% confused

Wait till we have a Democrat nominee. Then if more people want to vote for a far left nominee I'll be surprised. I think the Dems will have a hard time turning out the vote for someone like Elizabeth Warren.
