Trump calls on Turkey to broker ceasefire

We needed to get the hell out of Syria years ago. Why are we even there to begin with? They don't want us there anyway!

We are not a police force. We shouldn't be sending our troops in other countries supporting regime change.

This is bizarro world. Democrats and liberals, through their hatred of Trump, are literally preaching and mimicking the likes of Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld supporting a pro-war stance.

Trumpsters have been so retarded in this Syria thing . This is not about avoiding war, it never has been. In fact, leaving our troops there was preventing war. Turkey was not going to strike the Kurds until we left, so Trump gave them that. Now we have to put out the fire that Trump started.

That's what TDS will do to a person.

Leaving the actual warriors that fought for us to be slaughtered.

Watch which Trump supporters defend him on this. You will see people with no honor.

Sorry, but I don't do spinning media reports. That's why I presented the facts and not the misinformation from the OP.

Sorry, but Trump is a proven liar, so I never believe him until I can verify what he says.

Althogh this damage has yet to bare its fruits yet. I mean... ****... trump just pushed our allies into an alliance with Assad and Russia and they are a stateless mulsim sect that won't look lightly upon the betrayal they just received.

Who the hell are we fighting in Syria?

The Syrian government? ISIS?

If we are against the Syrian government, is the U.S on the same side as ISIS?

Hell no. Get the hell out before any American lives are killed. I refuse to support keeping Americans troops in Syria indefinitely.

Let me get this straight. In order to prevent war, we have to send our troops overseas and risk their lives?

Now that is neoconservatism logic.

Is the Syrian government and Asad a threat to the United States? In what way? Similar to how Saddam was a threat to the United States?

Another fine example of why cons can't lead. It's not binary. There's more than two ways which is apparently you are too incapable of comprehending.

He doesn't care if you believe him...he'll just go ahead and do it.

Let's be honest. If Obama pulled out of Syria, Democrats and liberals would be supporting the decision.

But Obama never would have pulled out of Syria. He wanted Assad out too badly. Obama supported the Muslim Brotherhood.

This is a perfect example of the arsonist calling the fire department; problem is a little too much gasoline was used and the fire has been allowed to burn a bit too long.......

Oh, I’m thinking 13NOV is off.........

Seriously. What did Trump think would happen if the Turks invaded? So basically he's asking them to stop doing what they've been planning to do except now people are dead.

:doh

So apparently you believe the United States needs to keep a global presence overseas, as a police force, in order to prevent violence and wars?

When Turkey invades Syria because of terrorist attacks by Kurdish separatist groups in Turkey, we are concerned about innocent civilians...

But when the US is fighting for "freedom" thousand of miles away from their home, it is to kill terrorists?

Give me a break.

My gawd, this post is so dumb I lost brain cells reading it.

Our troops were already there. We didn't send them to prevent war, they were there to assist the Syrian Kurds with taking out ISIS. The Syrian Kurds lost over 11k fighting ISIS, with US troops assistance. The Kurds did all of the fighting, the US troops were support.

However, the presence of the US troops also prevented Turkey from attacking the Kurds. The idea was to eventually work out something so the US troops could leave, but that was not ready yet. Trump made a rash decision with no warning, and that left the Kurds unprepared to respond to the Turkish invasion.

Trump tried this before. That is why Mattis resigned.

Newsflash to Airyaman: the PKK has committed terrorist attacks against Turkey.

So the PKK are our friends? They are a terrorist group.

Wait a minute. I thought the Syrian government was against ISIS.

I'm pretty sure Mattis might agree with Trump's plan to redeploy troops to Syria today.

President Trump announced on Monday that U.S. troops in northeastern Syria will be withdrawn from the country as planned, and redeployed “in the region to monitor the situation and prevent a repeat of 2014,” when the Islamic State made major territorial gains.

His statement came as two U.S. officials told Fox News that the Pentagon was accelerating its plans to get most U.S. troops out of Syria in the coming days and weeks. A “small footprint” of American forces will remain at a garrison in southern Syria to continue to disrupt remnants of ISIS, the president said in his statement.

It's not clear right now when the roughly 1,000 U.S. troops in Syria will be pulling back. The “small footprint” the president referenced was the At Tanf garrison in southern Syria near Jordan, where troops are expected to remain to guard a supply line used by Iranian-backed forces to move weapons between Tehran and Beirut, as well as Damascus, the officials added. ISIS traditionally has not had a large presence in that part of Syria.

Military industrial complex at work....and Pelosi which just hates anything Trump does

He did Wrong here, your excusing it does not make it right.
Have you served, would you throw fellow brothers in arms to the wolves?

And what will this troop redeployment accomplish? Will they pick their noses and play video games on their cell phones all day? I can't think of any other reasons for them to be there. They will not engage with the Turkish forces, so this is nothing more than bluster.

...and it's not quite "bringing the troops home" either.

Military industrial complex at work....and Pelosi which just hates anything Trump does

Yeah, that’s it...the military industrial complex wants the Kurds to not be slaughtered.

Still far less than the lives lost from his predecessors. In fact, U.S. foreign policy has been atrocious and costs many lives for decades.

That’s true...so why not kill more? Good logic, there.

Which we know nothing about. Should Trump release the transcript of his phone call with Erdogan? I think so.

What sanctions? That was just 50% tariffs on steel imports and a halting of trade negotiations.

This is new one on me. Got a source that is not Trump?

Good luck Mike, makes sure you stay at Trump Towers Istanbul!

I agree with your. post. This is just another example of damage control after Trump impulses.

That’s true...so why not kill more? Good logic, there.

Yeah...I didn't say that, or imply it. I've not run into issues from you before so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, just this once, and let you try again.

Yep. Turkey will have achieved all its military objectives long before any obviously purposefully after-the-fact sanction package takes affect. Sanctions are Trump’s way of handing cover to Turkey to do whatever the hell they want to do.

Putin, ISIS, IRAN, Turkey got what they wanted. I wonder what Trump got out of it.
U.S. troops, our allies the Kurds, our allies in the region...they got screwed. And why? Because Trump does Putin's bidding, or was it for kickbacks ala Trump Istanbul, or something else?
As bad as what he's being impeached for, just in a different way.
