Kurds reach deal with Damascus amid escalating Turkish offensive

...and Russia brokered the deal. The Kurds agreed to surrender the border towns of Manbij and Kobane to Damascus in exchange for Syrian armed resistance against the Turks.

I believe this puts the Kurds on the side of Syria, Russia and Iran. What choice did they have after the huge betrayal they suffered from Trump?

The Syrian army has already arrived at a border town on the Turkish border and were welcomed with open arms.

Meanwhile, nearly 1, 000 ISIS members have escaped.

Trump has just defecated on America's honor not to mention demonstrated to the world just how incompetent an international leader and statesman he is.

Strategy free, reactionary opportunistic transactional knee jerks seemingly all revolving around his own personal benefit and trashing long standing American values.

Not to mention handing Putin exactly what he wanted in what trumpettes' will claim was a master stroke of trumpian strategy to make Russia the power broker so they can deal with all these stupid headaches on the world stage.

I love this whole ally motif. How many other allies do we have with $12 million bounties on their leaders’ heads?

Kurdish soldiers fought side by side with Americans against ISIS. Does that not count as an ally?

No. It makes them useful tools as proxies in what is primarily a proxy war. We have very few soldiers there and they’ve mostly been serving in an advisory capacity rather than in combat roles.

Well, how many NATO allies buy Russian jets and missiles systems?

The US also provided air defense.

Nice map but a damn legend would help it quite a bit. I gather than the red area is probably Assad strongholds and the yellow is Kurdish areas but the green and blue areas?

In the top right corner there is where it says key, click on that and it pulls up a massive legend.

If you honestly believed that the US was going to help a designated terrorist organization set up and keep a “safe zone” from which it could plot against our NATO ally in peace then you’re as delusional as the Kurds.

You sound like Erdogon. Somehow I don't think he's going to be a NATO ally for long.

Hard to say. Turkey has been a bad actor for a very long time, but they get away with it because of their strategic importance.

What I think is about it happen is western turkey will see a flood of Kurds pushed out into northern Syria causing a humanitarian crisis of refugees fleeing Turkish slaughter and ISIS will reform in western turkey aided by the blind eye of Erdogan.

I think the flood will be the 3 million Syrian refugees that fled into Turkey when the war began. Erdogon wants to carve out a huge swath of land along the Syrian border and push most of them there to solve his refugee crisis.

Ergodon is a bad actor. Apparently, he wants to be a big hero like Atta Turk and bring back the power and glory Turkey had during the Ottoman Empire.

Like so many have said, these Muslim murderers will only cause more and more problems for the whole world because they are not contained. How do you stop murderers who believe it is their god's will to murder people? The only solution may be to wipe them out and dig up their religious roots and destroy those roots. Since we know we cannot do that then we will just have to live with blind, ignorant, dummass Muslim religious terror until Jesus comes back to put a stop to it. Americans, keep your guns at the ready and loaded.

The Christian murderers who keep storming into mosques, synagogues, minority churches and the like will just keep causing problems unless they are contained. Sounds like we should just wipe them out. Since conservatives would scream and whine about it, I guess we’ll just have to live with blind, ignorant, dumbass Christian religious terror.

Trump's impetuous decision has now taken a solid ally of America, betrayed them which made them ally with Asaad and Putin.

Unfortunately, Assad wants to control all of Syria, including the Kurds territory. But fortunately, his army has been weakend from the years of fighting. Unfortuately, Russia is their ally and wants Syria whole again, too.

That implied committee to goes all the way back to the 1980’s.

We aided Kurdish Peshmerga fighters to keep Sadaam’s army busy and to keep Iraq from being too stable. We have consistently used them in the war against both Al Quida and ISIS.

I realize the most Trumpster don’t have very long memories, know much about the world, or think much beyond believing whatever nonsense Trump feeds you, but this is a betrayal of the first magnitude.

And, in this case, I doubt that this betrayal is the casual whim based on one phone call that it is being portrayed as being (although, there is no doubt that Trump IS that stupid, reckless and disengaged).

This operation required months of planning and a lot of set up for logistical support.

There is little doubt that the Russians has advanced knowledge of it. There is also little doubt that this a product of policy coordination between Ankara, Damascus, and quite likely Moscow.

The Russians are providing coordinate air support. While our forces sit in safe zones and on the ground. I realize your fool’s gold fuhrer said that we withdrew. That was another one of his lies.

But it is very likely that the call between Erdogen and Trump was merely the Turks telling the US PResident to stand down per arrangement, while we go in and bomb civilians, drive their hapless forces into the arms of their enemies, and all with the coordination of Moscow.

I doubt that they told Trump what they had planned in any detail. He would only blab it at a rally or in front of reporters. They can’t trust him not to do that.

But be rope a doped into betraying a long standing ally...... that’s tailor made for Trump!

More likely a coordination between Ankara, Moscow and Tehran....all three want to see Syria made whole again and the Kerds and their US allies are in the way.
