...and Russia brokered the deal. The Kurds agreed to surrender the border towns of Manbij and Kobane to Damascus in exchange for Syrian armed resistance against the Turks.

I believe this puts the Kurds on the side of Syria, Russia and Iran. What choice did they have after the huge betrayal they suffered from Trump?

The Syrian army has already arrived at a border town on the Turkish border and were welcomed with open arms.

Meanwhile, nearly 1, 000 ISIS members have escaped.

100%. Turkey in the present and past actively aids ISIS and other jihadis against the Syria.

What betrayal by Trump?

When did the US promise they would protect the Kurds from Turkey?

In one camp, the families of ISIS rioted and overtook the guards.

The safe zone was created.

Did we promise to enforce the safe zone? In other words...did we promise to protect the Kurds from Turkey?

Let's put this another way...

Did the US promise to take on the entire Turkish military with 50-1000 soldiers?

That implied committee to goes all the way back to the 1980’s.

We aided Kurdish Peshmerga fighters to keep Sadaam’s army busy and to keep Iraq from being too stable. We have consistently used them in the war against both Al Quida and ISIS.

I realize the most Trumpster don’t have very long memories, know much about the world, or think much beyond believing whatever nonsense Trump feeds you, but this is a betrayal of the first magnitude.

And, in this case, I doubt that this betrayal is the casual whim based on one phone call that it is being portrayed as being (although, there is no doubt that Trump IS that stupid, reckless and disengaged).

This operation required months of planning and a lot of set up for logistical support.

There is little doubt that the Russians has advanced knowledge of it. There is also little doubt that this a product of policy coordination between Ankara, Damascus, and quite likely Moscow.

The Russians are providing coordinate air support. While our forces sit in safe zones and on the ground. I realize your fool’s gold fuhrer said that we withdrew. That was another one of his lies.

But it is very likely that the call between Erdogen and Trump was merely the Turks telling the US PResident to stand down per arrangement, while we go in and bomb civilians, drive their hapless forces into the arms of their enemies, and all with the coordination of Moscow.

I doubt that they told Trump what they had planned in any detail. He would only blab it at a rally or in front of reporters. They can’t trust him not to do that.

But be rope a doped into betraying a long standing ally...... that’s tailor made for Trump!

What good is a safe zone if no one enforces it???????

How much more pathetic can you possibly be?

I don't know if Turkey aided ISIS but they certainly let them pour across their border into Syria.

That's called aiding and abetting.

Ok I read up on it thismorning, not only has a deal been reached, but the syrian army has rapidly moved north and northeast. This has part to do with trumps re issue of withdrawel from northern syria as turkish russian kurdish syrian and iranian forces will all be present in the area, and not all on the same team either.

There were reports of russian aircraft in the area and currently the russian and american govts are using the deconfliction line, indicating us forces are not the target but rather turkish forces to the north. This however does not look good for us forces as they would either be stuck in the crossfire in the north or retreat forces south, but it gets complicated as the supply line for troops in syria comes north from turkey, meaning they may be forced to retreat all troops anyways unless a new logistics point can be negotiated.

Who could have imagined that foreign relations would be so complicated?

The US promised to broker a deal with Erdogon to have a safe zone on the Syrian side of the border. The Kerds thought a real deal was in the works and let the US convince them to pull back their defenses along the border. Then Erdogon called Trump and said he was going to attack the Kerds. Mr. Art of the Deal buckled and let Erdogon have his way....leaving our only true allies in the region to get massacred.

Perhaps instead of exporting democracy, the United States of America, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, is exporting chaos.

"It's good to be the king." History Of The World, Part I.

They can have the country, but Trump won't allow them to have the Kurds.

However, they should have invited Iran to their meeting. Iran will kick both their asses if they don't get a piece of Syria.

Russia and Turkey mull next steps in war-torn Syria

;)

Cant help but notice you seem to enjoy trump gifting things to Russia, things which Americans have worked hard for.

Whats next, inviting them to take part in our elections ?

I don’t think it’s quite that simple. But I think you have many of the major pieces.

This isn’t something that Erdogen just thought up. This operation has been months in planning, and coordination with the Russians play a key part.

Moscow has done very well in the Middle East under Trump. It consolidated its victory for it’s client, the Assad regime in Syria, with a by your leave from Trump (who made a show of protesting, and then sat silent as the barrel bombs kept falling).

Then it made a deal to sell missles to a NATO ally (the first time that I am aware of that ANY NATO nation bought Russian weapons from the Russians).

No nation launches a major ground offensive aimed at displacing millions of people ten minutes before a phone call.

Trump was told that the operation that had been in the works for months was going to get started, and told that is role was to stay out of the way and stand down.

I doubt that it was Erdogen who told him, either. I think he, or one or two of his henchmen have known about it for some time. This was just the go order.

Yes, Trump is that stupid. And, this way he doesn’t have to do anything, which is Trump’s default position. Do nothing, avoid responsibility.

To much of conservative America, that isn't "betrayal". That's business as usual. These are people who literally have no problem supporting someone who takes money earmarked for children with cancer.

How Donald Trump Shifted Kids-Cancer Charity Money Into His Business

If you can justify that, what can't you justify?

I agree 100%, now if we could only aid others in understanding this simple concept in regards to Gun Free Zones.

Rush, Sean and the Republican base don't care that 8yo girls were slaughtered so that an older man can keep a pee tape or outstanding loans hidden from the public.

No way these people make it to heaven.

1) no it does not, Kurds fight only on the own side.
2) edition "Kurds reach deal with Iran (Damascus is the complete bankrupt) amid escalating Turkish offensive"
3) Look like Putin is behind this mess , Erdogan has more than just putler´s support here . putler wants push USA/EU out of MENA and take control over all its oil and gas. and Trumps helps putler as much as he can

To hear military officials tell it, Trump 'went off script' during the phone call and instead of telling Erdogon to stay north of the border, he told him he would withdraw US troops and Erdogon could take care of ISIS by themselves. It sounded like Erdogon was fed up with Trump's blustering and deal or no deal, he was going to move ahead with the attack in spite of US troops in the region. Trump quickly backed down and gave him the green light. Within minutes of the phone call Trump ordered US troops away from the border. It certainly wasn't planned where Trump was concerned, imo.

The USA alleged "Safe Zone" was to prevent the Kurds from siding with Syria against ISIS. Benghazi supplied ISIS in Syria with weapons from Libyan armories via Turkey. CIA operation by agent Stevens. It's always hard to tell who is ISIS discreet allies of convenience and the enemy of my enemy is my friend and that puts the USA on ISIS side under certain circumstances. After all, we missiled the crap out of Syria when the ISIS/al Qeda/White Helmets used false flag alleged gas attacks. That would be the CIA financed little darlings, don't ya' know?

Take away all the spin and nonsense and you end up with this...something that happened in Iraq in the 80's and something that had to do with terrorists. There was no commitment made in either of those cases to protect the Syrian Kurds from Turkey.

Try again.

The Kurdish-Turkish conflict has been going on since 2015. Conflict between the two has been going on since 1978.

It's reported Erdogan announced he was going to invade Syria a number of weeks ago to deal with Kurdish incursions into Turkey.

The Trump Administration responded to certain assurances from Erdogan about that action.

Erdogen has violated those assurances.

The US response this week against Turkey will be crushing.

In the mean time, why are the remaining Nations in the region allowing the Kurds to be slaughtered?
