Hunter Biden to Resign From Board of Chinese Private-Equity Firm

Hunter Biden to Resign From Board of Chinese Private-Equity Firm - WSJ

The son of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden plans to step down from the board of a Chinese-based private-equity company amid intense criticism from President Trump that he profited from his father’s name.

Hunter Biden pledged in a statement released in a Medium post Sunday that he would step down from the board on Oct. 31 and not work for any foreign-owned companies or serve on their boards if his father is elected president.

Hmm NOW he see the problem and resigns . Why was he serving on boards in foreign countries that his father had great political influence over. Something smells fishy.

They call this “Evidence of Guilt”.

He should have gotten advice from the Clinton Foundation on how to peddle influence and get away with it! Of course, he will get away with it.

I think it's also pressure from whatever board he's on to not bring negative attention to it.

How many foreign board positions did Hunter obtain after the Navy kicked him out? ... or, for that matter, during his father's vice presidency?

Not seen anywhere in the above post: any self awareness whatsoever.

It’s the right thing to do.

The only people with less self awareness than the Trump Family are the ****ing idiots who blindly support them.

Lol, Trump and his followers complaining about nepotism is just too much irony to handle.

That is certainly one way to look at it - another is that it may be seen as ironic to have Hunter Biden profiting from Joe Biden's political power while complaining about the Trump children's nepotism. In either case, it looks bad to have close relatives of government officials working in 'private' jobs closely connected with government (foreign or domestic) funds.

I can't believe Hunter Biden & his father buckled to Trump's lies. If he's not doing anything illegal, he should tell Trump to take a flying leap. This is ridiculous. look at the Trump kids. a double-standard if there ever was one. This is a terrible decision by the Biden's.

So your argument is the other side is doing it too so it's okay?

Nobody said it is okay. There need to be new laws/regulations preventing this kind of crap. My god, I had to jump through hoops regarding nepotism just to get a job in the USPS.

But holding up Congress-approved military aide to try and fish for 'possible' dirt on a political rival is inherently corrupt.

Cowering to Trump like this is exactly why Biden will not win election.

I love how seamlessly most people on this board switched playbooks and are arguing (per their respective tribe) how bad or meh this is when the Biden family does it compared to when the Trump family does.

And I finally get why Trump asked the Ukranians and Chinese to investigate Hunter Biden.

In December, a London-based anti-corruption group found that that Trump Organization is pursuing a real estate project in the Dominican Republic.

In 2017, Trump’s real estate company sold a $16 million Manhattan penthouse to the owner of a consultancy company that helps U.S. companies establish a presence in China. In June, it was reported the Trump Organization sold a $13.5 million Beverly Hills mansion to Hillcrest Asia Ltd, a corporate entity connected to an Indonesian businessman.

Earlier this year, an Indonesian theme park that includes a Trump hotel and condos had to relinquish Chinese financial backing after critics warned that the deal could influence Trump’s handling of the U.S.-China trade war.

How Trump’s children are conducting business

Trump family members have had regular business dealings with foreign governments and investors for years. Past comments from Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter, have come under scrutiny this week amid Turkey’s assault on Syrian Kurds.

In 2012, before she was an adviser to the president of the United States, Trump tweeted her thanks to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, then the Turkish prime minister, for celebrating the launch of Trump Tower Istanbul.

Amid trade talks with China last year, Ivanka Trump gained initial approval from that country for 16 new trademarks on a variety of products, from handbags to voting machines, which also raised concerns.

In August, an asset management company that has backing from Qatar agreed to a 99-year lease on a New York building owned by Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law who is also his adviser. The deal gave Kushner’s company a lifeline as it was facing $1.4 billion mortgage payment on the property.

Watchdog groups say conflicts of interests, and the perception of conflicts, in Washington politics is hardly new.
“There is this implicit access or proximity to power with having the last name of a Biden, or a Clinton or a Bush or a Trump,” said Hedtler-Gaudette.

But ethics experts warn against drawing too close a comparison between Hunter Biden’s business and the Trump family’s.

“The unavoidable difference is the fact that Donald Trump right now has two adult sons who are traveling the world and the country, running a business that not only they benefit from, but that the president of the United States is profiting from,” Maguire said. “There is no parallel for that.”

Except the Trump nepotism is more blatant. How does Kushner qualify to negotiate ME peace? Why does Ivanka get a senior post? He even gave Eric's wedding planner a job as the head of Region II of HUD.

Trump took it on a whole other level. But funny how you will point out liberal 'hypocrisy' while ignoring your side.

It’s the right thing to do.
The right thing to do would have been not to trade on your father position as VP in the first place. Hunter Biden had no real credentials to be on that board other than his last name. Come on man!

Odd that Hunter would make the statement on a Sunday. It's almost like he doesn't want this to get much publicity.

Shady Hunter Biden's decision to leave a China company's board doesn't mitigate his own corruption or his father's complicity there or in Ukraine. Why would Biden Jr. leave and promise not to take any more foreign jobs IF he didn't do anything wrong to begin with?

Cowering to Trump like this is exactly why Biden will not win election.

He isn't cowering and Biden is unelectable. He is too old and now too toxic. More likely he is pandering to dad's donors who are in active retreat.

I am less concerned about modestly compensated public employment positions typically handed to cronies than private positions which pay much more.

Yes, liberal hypocrisy is funny. I removed the single quotes around the word implying it's alleged and not a fact - funny how they got there. :lamo

And I know my tribe is hypocritical. Known it since it elected Trump. Are you just now finding out your is? BTW, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny aren't real either. Deal.

You are less concerned about unqualified sycophants getting paid under taxpayer dollars than you are about Hunter Biden getting paid by a foreign company? ttwtt, you had a lot of respect coming from the DP left throughout the years. Don't throw it all away for a demagogue.

Maybe it's time to really call out the slimy works of both Bidens ... like when the media still had balls ...

Tom Brokow 2008: "... “That’s a reference to your son being hired right out of law school by a big company here in Delaware that’s in the credit card business, MBNA. He got about $100,000 a year, as I recall. You received $214,000 in campaign contributions from the company and from its employees,” Brokaw told Biden.

“At the same time, you were fighting for bankruptcy bill that MBNA really wanted to get passed through the Senate making it much tougher for everyone to file bankruptcy,” he continued. “Senator Obama was opposed to the bill. Among other things, you couldn’t in fact claim that you had a problem because of big medical bills. You voted against an amendment that would call for a warning on predatory lending. You also … opposed efforts to strengthen the protection of people in bankruptcy. ..."

This thread is confusing as hell. Is everyone in agreement that nepotism is bad, or is it just that Hunter Biden is bad? I think we should prohibit all of these brats from making money off of their parent's name. I don't care whether they're a Biden, Trump, or whatever.
