New York (CNN Business)President Donald Trump, facing an ever-deepening scandal that threatens to swallow his presidency, appears to have lost a key ally in conservative media: The Drudge Report.

The narrative-setting news aggregation website, founded in 1995 by Matt Drudge, has spotlighted an overwhelming amount of negative news for the Trump White House in the last several weeks. It's marked a major shift from how the outlet had previously covered the President.
"He's reacting to changing circumstances," a person close to the media mogul, who said Drudge had grown exasperated with Trump, told CNN Business.

In the coming weeks and months, right-wing media will be crucial to whether Trump is able to survive the growing scandal. If he loses support in that space, it would offer Republicans wiggle room to turn on him, which could endanger his presidency.
Drudge, who did not return requests for comment, is especially influential in conservative media, having the ability to shape or even create news cycles. Drudge's website has for years helped set the agenda and worked as a gravitational force that has drawn other media outlets to his preferred narrative. The power he has wielded has led observers to characterize him as the de-facto assignment editor of the conservative media.
"He's one of the dominoes that would have to fall for the right-wing media to allow Trump to be removed from office," said John Ziegler, a conservative who was an occasional guest host on Drudge's old radio show and writes columns on media for Mediaite.

The dominos are falling.......

I don't really care all that much if Trump or somebody else is the GOP 2020 nominee as long as a Democrat is kept out of the White House.

If not Trump, who else would you like to see as the GOP nominee?

Nikki Haley seems to have the best political instincts.

It was a Democrat who took 10 years to rescue this country from the economic oblivion of a Republican Great Depression. Thanks for nothing, Hoover & Coolidge.

We haven't elected the first woman to the WH yet, let alone one with Asian blood.

Romney has the best creds + the $$$ to beat the Orange Donald. I've never voted for a Republican in my life but depending on who the Dems put up I'd consider him.

That would be odd if race decided a Presidential election. I think she would be the strongest candidate between her, Romney and Pence.

I hadn't thought of Nikki Haley. But yes, that's a good choice. Her experience as governor and as UN Ambassador gives her experience that would be hard to beat.

It sounds like you're practically admitting that the point of impeachment is to put a Democrat in the White House.

Nah... I'm saying 2020 is going to be a bloodbath for you repubs. Sorry but not sorry. You all kind of deserve it.

I think the country has had enough Republican for a long time. They gave us the Great Depression & the Orange Donald. Wouldn't you cry 'ENOUGH!'?

I don't know if Trump will be the 2020 nominee or not. However, I suspect that the Democrats will try to time votes juuussst right to deny a new GOP candidate time to run a realistic campaign. If the Democrats think it would work to their advantage, they would want Trump to stay in office. If that happens, you might just get another 2016 on your hands.

The Orange Donald is giving the Dems more than enough fodder for the political ads that will make it a Dem landslide.

You can tell that I REALLY don't want a Democrat in the White House if I'm supporting a female GOP nominee. I think Nikki Haley would be the strongest candidate against Red Lizzy.

There's a first time for everything!

I think you may be the only guy in TX that would vote for an Asian woman.

The stars at night are big & bright....

Democrats aren't that smart.
