U.S. House Republicans to seek sanctions on Turkey over Kurd offensive

I'm talking about what Trump has said he wants to do and what the members of the House and the Senate...from both Parties...want to do. The GOP wants sanctions. What do the Dems want?

I think we want to stand with our allies and not be fair weather friends, or at least that's what I want, I only speak for me. I would never support turning my back on a friend, ever. They shed blood with us and we cut and run on them. Trump is the guy that did it with what looks like pretty much no
Support from anyone and now is Americans as a whole that are completely untrustworthy cowards, all because of Trump......... thanks Trump

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Twenty-nine of President Donald Trump’s fellow Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives announced on Thursday they would introduce legislation to impose sanctions against Turkey, underscoring lawmakers unhappiness about its assault on Kurdish forces in Syria.

A day after Republicans and Democrats announced similar legislation in the Senate, the lawmakers - including Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy, Republican Whip Steve Scalise and other party leaders - said they wanted a strong response to Ankara’s aggression.

Know what this means? It means the GOP are going against Trump, that's why this move by the GOP to impose sanctions on Turkey may be a turning point for Trump. Congress sanctioned Turkey in 2017 for holding a Andrew Brunson, a U.S. citizen, prisoner. That was a rare public break between Trump and Erdogan. Trump very reluctantly sanctioned Turkey again this past July because Turkey bought Russian-made air defense system.

“So what happens is we have a situation where Turkey is very good with us, very good, and we are now telling Turkey that because you have really been forced to buy another missile system, we’re not going to sell you the F-35 fighter jets," Trump said. "It’s a very tough situation that they’re in, and it’s a very tough situation that we’ve been placed in, the United States.”

“With all of that being said, we’re working through it, but it’s not really fair,” Trump added. “Because they bought a Russian system, we’re not allowed to sell them billions [of dollars worth] of aircraft. It’s not a fair situation.”

Trump doesn't have the slightest clue about U.S. geopolitics. He sees an opportunity to make $ by selling F-35's and that's all he sees. He doesn't 'get it' that for Turkey to be buying air defense from Russia, who is not a NATO ally, is not how it should work.

29 terrorists loving republicans. Trump should do like Boris Johnson and exile them from his party.

Indeed, that massive 0.034% decrease in Turkey's revenues will be so crushing that they will come begging within hours.

(Not only that but they will turn over their Russian air defence equipment to the US government free of charge.)

Quite right cut off that 1.175% of their GDP.

Absolutely. The savings in foreign aid and the destruction of the economy of any country that even thinks about not doing what the President of the United States of America will be highly beneficial to the US economy.

Wanna bet?

Of course Mr. Trump does not "lie" he actually believes each and every one of the mutually contradictory things he says when he says them. And, since Mr. Trump almost always says both "We are going to __[fill in the blank]__." and "We are not going to __[fill in the blank]__." he has his bases covered regardless of what he does. ("Claque Trump" will adamantly deny that Mr. Trump ever said that he was going to adopt the course of action that he didn't adopt and point out how infallible he is because he did say that he was going to adopt the course of action that he did adopt.)

I think that was the most perfect response possible. You do have Trump's number down pat.
I really did get you wrong a while back and have to admit how much I like your posts even when I disagree.......you rock.

"stand with our allies and not be fair weather friends"

That's a non-answer. I'm talking about actions.

Your being a COWARD!!!

Whoa...please dial it back.

So tell me...should we attack Turkey? Should we attack Assad? Should we attack Russia?

Do you want Congress to declare war against anyone who doesn't like the Kurds?

As I said...I'm talking about actions.

The action has already been taken, we ran like COWARDS and left the Kurds to be cut down like they never even mattered. You trying to take the position of action is ****ing retarded.

The world should have known that the USA was untrustworthy the day tRUMP took the oath.

Thank you for the kind words.

Far too many people believe that "I don't like what you say." means the same thing as "What you say if false and I don't have to go any further than to know who said it to know that it is false.".

Not true at all.

"America" (read as "the American people who actually believe in what children are taught the United States of America stands for") IS still trustworthy and the government of the United States of America is as trustworthy as it has ever been.

I have to disagree. So do these graphs. Also, he has been laughed at on world stage. Not something a trusted person has happen to them.

What The World Thinks Of Trump | FiveThirtyEight

What the world thinks of Mr. Trump has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with "'America' (read as 'the American people who actually believe in what children are taught the United States of America stands for') IS still trustworthy and the government of the United States of America is as trustworthy as it has ever been."

If everyone were to judge "America" by Mr. Trump, then the bombs would have started falling a long time ago.

Why would bombs have started falling?

So ... I take it NATO is gonna fall apart now that every NATO country will be "forbidden" to sell arms to their NATO buddy Turkey ...

Were you aware that the US has 50 tactical nuclear weapons stored at the Incerlik airbase in Turkey? You knew that, right? And now Turkey is holding our 50 tactical nuclear weapons as hostage in this negotiation to try to get a ceasefire to stop the deaths of millions of Kurds. Trump basically handed the country over to Assad, Putin, Iran and to ISIS. Turkey will hold those tactical nuclear weapons and millions of human lives as a bargaining chip so Turkey can hold onto a piece of Syria.

Bingo! That is exactly the heart of the matter, and why Erdogan seduced Trump into giving a "green light" in the first place. Erdogan now has all the cards, and Trump has basically bupkus.

Well, I see your problem: you believe what Trump tweets is true....

I've never had a Twitter account, but anyone who reads Trump's tweets for any reason besides entertainment is a moron.

How could he go much further than sanctions? Again, you are placing way too much trust in a person who lies alot. He hasn't lifted a finger since Turkey started this attack. There are already dozens of Kurds dead.

Even I can tell that Mycroft is deflecting to Congress because he doesn't even have the usual lies and nonsense to defend Trump.

I recently returned from an annual trip with thirty international friends and colleagues. Almost unanimously, they chuckled at the four of us who are American. They reminded us that Trump is a global joke who most people no longer even listen to and that we would do well to do like they do: ignore the dumbass until he's gone. Several of them said almost exactly what you said. The US and Americans are exceptional. The world needs the US and will wait for it to regain its senses.

Why would bombs have started falling?

Because Trump is the antithesis of a global world order that has sustained since the end of WWII. He's not only dumb. He's also willfully dangerous and thoroughly incompetent.

I'm sorry, we residents of Metaphoria speak the Metaphorical language and that, although it does translate reasonably well into English, frequently doesn't translate very well into GEDAmerican and/or Trumpspeak.

Well, you have to give him credit for being skilled at something then, don't you?

Totally. Trump is pretty much the best terrible person in the public world right now. Quite an achievement.
