Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters Thursday his controversial July call with President Trump involved no bribe, blackmail or quid pro quo, as impeachment-minded Democrats claim.

Zelensky spoke at a daylong event with media inside a Kiev food market, and said he believes the transcript released by the White House is accurate and that he knew the U.S. had withheld $400 million in military aid due to concerns about corruption and concern for American "taxpayer money." But the issue, he said, was never linked to Trump's desire that Kiev rekindle an investigation into an energy company with ties to former Vice President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden.

"There was no blackmail," Zelensky said. "They blocked this money and nobody asked us [for] anything,"

Trump responded to Zelensky's comments Tuesday by tweeting: "The President of the Ukraine just stated again, in the strongest of language, that President Trump applied no pressure and did absolutely nothing wrong. He used the strongest language possible. That should end this Democrat Scam, but it won’t, because the Dems & Media are FIXED!"

Does anyone besides me think the Democrats should get off their asses, take the VOTE or go home? Since President Zelensky said there were no bribes, blackmail or quid pro quo, kind of hard for Democrats to spin a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

You want 'em to do something worthwhile? Heh. They so scared ****less about 2020 that's not gonna happen.

That would be very convincing if it weren't for the fact that we have text messages (from an encrypted app, so as to try and hide these communications) that show explicitly that there was black mail, a republican senator admitted that one of the officials told him we were holding up aid in exchange for political investigations, we have a memo of a call that shows that the president wanted a "a favor though" when discussing military purchases for Ukraine that would require our aid to be sent etc. etc. etc.

The ukrainian president doesn't want to piss off trump cause he has Russians lined up on his borders and in his country in some parts. And he knows the president is incredibly spiteful and morally corrupt. So he can't call him out. It's the same reason that he had to mention to Trump that he stayed at one of his hotels. Because he knows how corrupt and absolutely unfit Trump is.

LOL. Don't believe all the transcripts and texts. (Edit: And oh yes, the real time concern expressed by the GOP senator Ron Johnson -- thanks, roughdraft)

Just take the word of the man whose country's national security is being held hostage. Zelinksky is the roughed-up woman who is standing behind the cracked-open door telling the police, "no, I'm alright, you can go away now", while a man is standing behind the door just out-of-sight holding a gun to her head and her children are bound and gagged in the next room.

Shhhhhhh!!!!! You'll absolutely RUIN the manufactured outrage and false narrative!

You are referring to this text? It confirms what President Zelensky said this morning.... "No Quid Pro Quos" of any kind....

You're welcome.

He also texted that Trump wants the deliverables, and that is also the same guy that told a republican senator that this was a quid pro quo. He was covering his ass in that text. It's painfully obvious to anyone that hasn't gotten drunk off the trump kool-aid.

It would bolster your post if there were date/time stamps on those text messages.........

Are the messages still secret or are they available to read?

It is heartening to see that some of us, you included, are sane rational thinkers. Thank you.

Did you forget that Sondland spoke to twump inbetween the texts and COMPLETELY changed his tone and message.

Why do you support gangsters?

Handing over secret messages only after you've been caught does nothing to negate the fact that they shouldn't have been discussing official government business over encrypted apps in the first place.

Trump asking foreigners for dirt on a political opponent is illegal (an FEC violation?) - only Hillary can do that legally.

Because she did it properly.... she made no ask of a foreigner or foreign government.... Ask any attorney or tax accountant, the form of the transaction is often the only thing that matters.

That said, if you are talking about the Steele Dossier, you realize it never came to light until AFTER the election. So its pretty hard to argue the "Hilliary" did much of anything even remotely analogous to Trump.

"The man whose back I'm holding a gun to says I'm not holding a gun to his back!"

Besides, you know who disagrees that there was no extortion?

1)The whistleblower
2)The ICIG
3)The DNI
4)Ambassador Sondland
5)Diplomat Bill Taylor
6)Senator Johnson
7)The collective common sense of planet earth

But the blackmail did not work so that means it did not happen. The stupidity of all this is that Ukraine has been subjected to blackmail and corruption by the best and Vlad failed too. Why Trump though he could do what Putin failed at is beyond me.

I didn't see any mention of a quid pro quo in the text I provided above. You are reading into more than what is said in both the text and the Zelensky phone call because you have an agenda.

I know that the anti-Trump echo chamber lead by Nancy Pelosi likes to screech that Trump violated the constitution while on his call with Zelensky, but there’s no serious argument for this especially in light of what Zelensky keeps saying, and you keep ignoring... It's the duty of presidents to investigate corruption, and ask foreign leaders what they know about it. Get over it.

So do we have the messages or not? Are you referencing the memo from Schiff and Cummings?

Well there seems to be some conflicting evidence regarding this issue, so it will be investigated and we'll see what we find out in the end.

In the end, you know and I know the impeachment inquiry will not be seen as being on the right side of history.
You have to have more than a sow's ear to make a silk purse.

What a weird non sequitur. You made a claim that's been refuted by every person and every observable fact involved in the process

So more rumor and hearsay. Hauntingly like Blasey-Ford testimony.

OK that explains it.

It's crazy, right?

1) Trump holds money appropriated by Congress, supported by everyone involved - state, Pentagon, NSA. - no one knows the reason because it changes weekly.
2) The texts are clear - investigations or not even a phone call with Trump.
3) On a phone call after weeks of negotiations, Trump asks for the favors the diplomats have been discussing for weeks
4) Trump keeps a block on the money.
5) The WB complaint comes to light.
6) Trump releases the money, the quid
7) Ukraine publicly announces the quo, an investigation into Burisma

What kind of idiot could look at that timeline and conclude a quid pro quo?
