I think Pelosi is a rather savvy parliamentarian. This McCarthy ploy sounds like it amounts to some sort of "You didn't say 'Mother may I'" and I doubt Pelosi would make a procedural blunder that would somehow nullify the entire process.

And, as stupid and ignorant as Trump sometimes appears, I don't underestimate him, either. It is unequivocally illegal to solicit foreign governments to aid him in his re-election bid. He has to know this. Nevertheless, he was caught doing just that on the Ukraine call (the West Wing scramble to hide the record is evidence). But, Trump being Trump, he has now openly solicited China to do the same thing (could the tariffs be in play?). That tells me Trump has counted the votes in the senate in light of these clear violations and he still feels confident in the outcome.

People in this administration apparently feel empowered to flaunt their disregard for congressional subpoenas. That tells me they have been assured that the USSC will back them if it comes to that. Even if the courts don't back them, it would still require the DOJ to enforce the court orders. AG Barr will probably refuse to comply.

As this unfolds, I am concerned that when the dust has settled, the president will literally have unlimited power and authority and no one will be able to hold him or any future president accountable. Trump said he could shoot someone and his loyalists would not turn on him. Sounds like he spoke the truth.

To get the evidence and documentation into the congressional record, subpoena witnesses, question the witnesses, to get more documentation into the congressional record, and access to more witnesses to question. Build the case, plug up whatever holes may exist, pour cement over the plugs of the holes, and ram it all up the Senate ass at a time that best suits the desires and goals of the House of Representatives as determined by the Speaker and her duly elected caucus.

What she is scared of is the one thing she cant control, voters opinions.
We all know the democrats have full control, the house republicans are making sure everyone knows they have been shut out of the process (much like ACA). She has to convince a majority of voters that they is sound reasons for putting the country through this circus and that the pricess is fair. If she fails republicans may have a massive win across the board.

She has plenty to be scared of.

Pelosi is right. Committee chairmen have subpoena power all the time.

There is no need, or particular precedent for voting a resolution to conduct and investigation. Congressional committees investigate things all the time without a full vote of the House.

There will be a vote at some point, and well before actual articles are drawn.

McCarthy is trying to press the issue for a very obvious reason.

The longer this goes on, and the deeper Trump digs the hole he is digging for himself, the greater the likelihood that Republicans will begin to defect and support Impeachment.

I think that McCarty and McConnell know full well that once the cracks start to widen the dam will break very quickly.

Few in the GOP leadership have any love lost for Trump. Their only calculus is who will be the 2020 nominee, and how can they get the GOP out of this mess with any hope of keeping the Presidency in 2020.

Donald Trump has spent the last two days openly soliciting aid from foreign countries to gather dirt on his political opponents.

He demands investigations of both the Biden’s (and almost certainly his perennial bugaboos, Clinton and Obmama too).

The Republicans control the Senate.

I doubt that you’ve even noticed (because Fox and your favorite AM disc jockeys are looking the other way), that Mitch McConnell has not asked any of his committee chairman to initiate any such investigation.

McConnell does not have Trump’s back.
