It would matter very little for anyone to deny being a simpleton. That is earned, not necessarily valid when self ordained. It would best for us if we didn't assume the other to be a simpleton.
I may have jumped a bit hard on your self description. In fact, I agree with you on one of your points and I am not a liberal. Maybe its a yin/yang thing.
If I was out of line, I am sorry. I just see so many venal post about our President, I just sometimes may be too defensive. I understand some don't like the way President Trump does things, but at the end of the day, he is after all our President. Vote him out in 2020, but God guide him until or maybe after then.
Regards,
CP
Thanks for your balanced post. OK, chances are that you're not a simpleton; good.
Look, I initially tried to give Trump the benefit of the doubt. It is fair to say, though, that he squandered my good will. But I don't question that he is the President of the United States. Elections have consequences, and he was elected. Sure, there are doubts about Russian interference, and I read an interesting article about how much influence it theoretically had in the three states that tilted the balance in the Electoral College. If the conclusion of this article is sound, then something is to be said about the legitimacy of his win, but it is speculative, and I'm not entirely convinced that his campaign actually orchestrated it, so... OK, I do acknowledge that he is the dully elected POTUS.
It doesn't mean I have to like him, and it doesn't mean he is above criticism. Just look at how much Obama was criticized and how many people tried to imply that he wasn't a legitimate president, with absurd conspiracy theories like the birtherism movement, fostered by... one Donald J. Trump.
I see a few positive things in Donald Trump. Geopolitically speaking, I see China as the biggest threat to the United States and to the world order, and misguided as the tariffs might be, Trump is actually countering their advance. Also, Trump has NOT been hawkish, and has not plunged us into huge wars. Sometimes I think Hillary Clinton, had she won, would be more dangerous than Trump, regarding WWIII. I hope he doesn't prove me wrong by attacking Iran, but it doesn't look like he will. Good.
I appreciate the fact that he is against illegal immigration, but I certainly dislike how he goes about it (I don't think that a wall is the solution), and also dislike the why... nativism, racism, and xenophobia are not the most productive positions out there... I'm for stopping illegal immigration of all kinds (that includes cute white Eastern European women who overstay visas and work as models), but not for demonizing brown people.
What I dislike most about Trump is his fascination with dictators and his destructive approach to our historical ties with our allies. I also dislike his erratic cabinet made in some cases of grossly incompetent people, and the huge turnover that has happened, in a time when I'd love to see stability and consistency. I also fear that his excessive tax cuts for the rich will eventually derail the economy.
All things considered, yes, I acknowledge that he is the POTUS, but I also very much want to see him defeated in 2020. I much favor removing him thanks to an electoral defeat, than through impeachment (which won't remove him, by the way).
