Trump’s communications with foreign leader are part of whistleblower complaint that spurred standoff

Our system is so stupid.

Whistleblower laws, that POTUS can shut down if they are whistleblowing on him.
Immune from indictment, and indictments cannot toll (he can ride them out in office and never be criminally liable)
An extremely partisan judiciary all the way to SCOTUS
Winner take all structure
POTUS "cannot commit obstruction" according to some right wingers
POTUS can clear anyone for security clearance, even if they fail
Kids in office nepotism
Pay a POTUS resorts and hotels as bribes, legally!

I could go on. What a corruptly designed, pathetic system we have.

The system is fine. The problem is the Republican Party has become an extremist organization.

Also, the far-right wing of the Republican Party -- Freeper types for instance -- doesn't really care about the law or the Constitution. They care about immigration and abortion, and the fulfillment of policy goals for those two things are more important than our institutions and the law, and anyone who opposes their policy goals are "enemies" who do not deserve to participate in the system.

People like Barr sort of exemplify this type of thinking at the institutional level in Trump's administration.

The republican re-election plan:

OBSTRUCT.

Another Fake News story out there - It never ends! Virtually anytime I speak on the phone to a foreign leader, I understand that there may be many people listening from various U.S. agencies, not to mention those from the other country itself. No problem!
....Knowing all of this, is anybody dumb enough to believe that I would say something inappropriate with a foreign leader while on such a potentially “heavily populated” call. I would only do what is right anyway, and only do good for the USA!
-@realDonaldTrump

If there's no problem, why is this rat **** fighting so hard to keep the Intel Committee from finding out what it is?

Yes, exactly. There is an easy solution to solve the rampant speculation that is bugging Trump so much...declassify and publish either the recording or the transcript of the conversation.

I don't even need to know, because some things are classified for a reason. But I would be happy if the Intel Committee got to exercise their constitutional oversight powers, without Cheeto Benito trying to argue that a temper tantrum is a strong legal justification to deny them.

I heard more details about this story on the news this morning. This is extremely concerning. Even the IG found the story to be concerning, and yet it's being squashed by Trump's corrupt people. And I see the usual suspect citizens of Trump Fan Nation are A-Okay with that. Trump first - country second. Every time.

Trump called it "fake news." So, we already know what the stupid people will say.

He or she is probably hoping it doesn’t come to that. The cost to their career would be catastrophic. There might even be legal exposure for such a move.
The House can give immunity to prosecution, like they did for Ole North.

The House can give immunity to prosecution, like they did for Ole North.

Unless the DOJ just decides to charge him anyway.

They can't do that. The judge would toss the case if they tried.

That isn't stopping them from pursuing a case that's likely to fail anyway. Also, the DOJ will just shop for judges, like they're almost certainly shopping for grand juries as in the case of McCabe. Corruption is like that: stupid, petty, selfish and short sighted. It's defined more by the expression of brute strength than calm, collected thinking.

Re: Trump’s communications with foreign leader are part of whistleblower complaint that spurred st

First lawmaker to exit IG briefing on whistleblower complaint is Mike Turner (R-Ohio). “No comment.”

After two hours, the first Dem to emerge, Rep. Andre Carson, also declines to comment.

Kyle Cheney on Twitter: "First lawmaker to exit IG briefing on whistleblower complaint is Mike Turner (R-Ohio). “No comment.”"

NUNES emerges and says exactly 0 words. Refuses to answer any questions but greets a Fox reporter as elevator doors close.

LOL No one cares about Hillary and Obama, it's the traitor in the Whitehouse that is the subject here. If you don't like it move to Russia, you deserve it. Trump is a disgrace to our flag and those that follow him need to get the message. If they still want to be Americans that is. Otherwise they are free to leave if Putin will have you.

Maybe they can get on the sub that Putin will have waiting for trump the day he leaves office...

He should have been hauled out in cuffs after five minutes of refusing to cooperate!!!

Exactly. Made an example of on live tv.

*To mods... story is an MSN link but a repost by them of a Washington Post story. I'm hoping this can be a way Washington Post's paywall won't block the story.

Trump’s communications with foreign leader are part of whistleblower complaint that spurred standoff between spy chief and Congress, former officials say

The whistleblower complaint that has triggered a tense showdown between the U.S. intelligence community and Congress involves President Trump’s communications with a foreign leader, according to two former U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

Trump’s interaction with the foreign leader included a “promise” that was regarded as so troubling that it prompted an official in the U.S. intelligence community to file a formal whistleblower complaint with the inspector general for the intelligence community, said the officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

The speculation is that trump promised Putin something about the spy we just heard about that had to be extracted from Russia.

There is also speculation of it being about it being a promise of removing money that helped Europe push back on Russia's incursion into Ukraine.

Now there is executive obstruction... yet again... this time to break the law that this whistleblower's claim be handed over to congress within 7 days.

"Corruption in the flesh" indeed.

Benedict Arnold would be considered a patriot compared to tRump.!! This treasonous inept sociopath that stumbled into the White House(with putins help)continues to betray our country.:(

Wow, dictatorship anyone?

White House also involved in advising DNI not to share whistleblower complaint

CNN)The White House and the Justice Department have advised the nation's top intelligence agency that a controversial complaint involving President Donald Trump isn't governed by laws covering intelligence whistleblowers, according to three sources familiar with the matter.
The revelation is the first known evidence of the White House's involvement in the standoff between Congress and the intelligence agency. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff said he didn't know whether the White House was involved.
So far, the director of national intelligence has not allowed lawmakers access to the complaint, which earlier a source familiar with the case said was prompted by communication Trump had with a foreign leader. Trump responded to the reports Thursday, tweeting he would never "say something inappropriate" on a phone call with a foreign counterpart.
The White House Counsel's office and Justice Department Office of Legal Counsel have both been involved in discussing the complaint with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), which has refused to reveal the nature of it to Congress.

Intel Inspector General isn't sharing details of whistleblower complaint

In explaining their position, ODNI has suggested there is a question of privilege. The agency wrote in a letter to lawmakers on September 13 the complaint "involves confidential and potentially privileged communications by persons outside the Intelligence Community." The letter ends by noting the agency would work toward "protecting Executive Branch confidentiality interests."
