Trump’s communications with foreign leader are part of whistleblower complaint that spurred standoff

Not producing enough Uranium domestically for our own needs is a weakness. Giving Putin control over 20% of what we do produce makes us weaker in this area. There was no benefit to the US in this deal. Both the Obama's and the Clintons entered political office poor and left rich, far richer than book deals can account for.

Did you notice how Uranium production has gone from 1453 tons in 2009 to 582 tons in 2018? That's because paying unnecessarily high prices to process low quality Uranium ore would be a weakness, so we leave it in the ground.

The Guy I was answering said the Uranium was owned by Canada.

A material / power source that can be refined to a weapon, (Dirty bomb) you don't think that would a discussion we would not want to control?

We have exercised control of yellow cake for over 70 years even though most is generated outside the US.

Ok, lets just sell it all to Putin.

Uranium One deal did happen as a result some of the uranium was illegally exported out of the country. CNN, Snope, etc. lying about it doesn't change those facts.

If you're gonna cite sources, you probably shouldn't make **** up about what they say.

"The transfers to Canada were legal despite Uranium One’s not holding an export license because the NRC granted such a license to the company that transported it. The transfers to Europe were legal because they were approved by another agency, the U.S. Dept. of Energy." - Snopes

HAHAHAHA you immoral heathen.
Mister Kool-Aid has to WEAR PANTS NOW, conservatives actually got upset because he was NEKKIT!!
Something about making people visualize slurping icy fruit flavored genitals.

For some reason it hasn't helped, though :lamo
I guess some conservatives are still visualizing this:

Mister Tornado, I hope this made you laugh.

I'll play devil's advocate on this one...we can mine more uranium, and we are in the process of sunsetting a lot of uranium/plutonium fueled nuclear power generating reactors, and since weaponized uranium is a product in decreasing demand for power, quite naturally more of it can be devoted to weapons, IF WE are smart enough to start an all hands on deck effort to bring thorium fueled reactors online for POWER generation.

Literally meltdown proof and weaponizing thorium is too difficult to bother with, much much too difficult.
In many cases, it is even impossible depending on reactor design. There are a couple of different types of thorium fueled reactors available.
Currently none are online in the world at the moment but several were online and operating as recently as 2018 and one or two are scheduled to come online or come BACK ONLINE in the next year or so.

Thorium reactor design is as mature as uranium/plutonium systems. Thorium was shelved at the outset of the Cold War because the military wanted weaponizing potential, and Congress did not want to pay for development of both systems.

Now it's different, we have both the need and capability to make uranium supplies for power irrelevant.
We already have a crap ton of nuclear weapons, no shortage there.

Really, Rob. Did you expect anything more? You got the usual suspects in here, spewing the same raw sewage every where they go.

Just another day that ends in Y.

Open minded does NOT mean empty headed but closed minded most often does.

So no, proud to be white, male, bald, etc. either

Well, that's as clear as mud. Maybe the President promised $150 billion, delivered under cover of night, in exchange for... uhh... nothing. Are you sure they are talking about the right President?

Other than the recycling of yet another false right wing meme, it’s hard not to laugh at this.

After all, that is something that Trump would do. He gives it away, and never gets much of anything in return.

He repudiated the Trans Pacific Partnership, a giant gift to China, without even asking for something.

He elevated Kim Jong Un, and got nothing in return.

Putin trolled him on live worldwide television. Putin is still in the driver’s seat when it comes to Trump.

The Chinese are playing Trump now too.

True, Trump won’t give up cash. At least not unless it’s someone else’s and Kushner and a few of Trump’s cronies get their rake off the top.

*To mods... story is an MSN link but a repost by them of a Washington Post story. I'm hoping this can be a way Washington Post's paywall won't block the story.

Trump’s communications with foreign leader are part of whistleblower complaint that spurred standoff between spy chief and Congress, former officials say

The whistleblower complaint that has triggered a tense showdown between the U.S. intelligence community and Congress involves President Trump’s communications with a foreign leader, according to two former U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

Trump’s interaction with the foreign leader included a “promise” that was regarded as so troubling that it prompted an official in the U.S. intelligence community to file a formal whistleblower complaint with the inspector general for the intelligence community, said the officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

The speculation is that trump promised Putin something about the spy we just heard about that had to be extracted from Russia.

There is also speculation of it being about it being a promise of removing money that helped Europe push back on Russia's incursion into Ukraine.

Now there is executive obstruction... yet again... this time to break the law that this whistleblower's claim be handed over to congress within 7 days.

"Corruption in the flesh" indeed.

Yes, we were not wrong about Trump. But, Trumpanzees certainly are.

To sum up what you said...

No matter what Trump does, he's mentally ill.

No matter how good a job he does with the economy, Obama is responsible for it, but Obama is not responsible for his eight year malaise.

There's no evidence that Trump has done anything wrong with Russia/Putin, but he's guilty and should be impeached anyway.

Obama palling around with terrorists is just fine though. Throw Nadler in there too with the terrorists, since he's the one running the impeachment circus in Congress.

The Mueller report says the exact opposite of that. So, the post is either an intentional lie or amazingly ignorant.

Open minded does NOT mean empty headed but closed minded most often does.
I think it was Einstein who said, 'one can be only so smart -- but stupid has no limits.'

Bear in mind that the office of the intelligence community inspector general independently verified that the whistleblower's warning was credible and of urgent concern.

As one former CIA official said, "This is the equivalent of an imminent threat in the intelligence community. This is DEFCON 1."

I seem to remember a few years ago, some lady who had an email server in her house said that Trump is 'temperamentally unfit and unqualified to be president'. He shows us daily that she was right.

As with so many things political, it's early days yet. Speculation's a mighty thin gruel when meaty facts will be plated up and brought to table in coming days and weeks. This armchair observer's content to wait.

I heard more details about this story on the news this morning. This is extremely concerning. Even the IG found the story to be concerning, and yet it's being squashed by Trump's corrupt people. And I see the usual suspect citizens of Trump Fan Nation are A-Okay with that. Trump first - country second. Every time.

I wonder if there are any Trump Republicans left that actually think he's honest.

I hope not. That would mean they're dumb as a rock.

we have intelligent agencies listening in on Trump/Putin phone calls and wanting to blow the whistle?

Do you mean the Israeli "Stingray" units found near the White House a few weeks back?

I don't know why the whistle-blower doesn't just show up and testify before a House committee and put what he/she knows into the public record.

The Trump cultists are willing to excuse anything, they are that messed up in the head. Unbelievable that this nation allows this level of corruption.

He or she is probably hoping it doesn’t come to that. The cost to their career would be catastrophic. There might even be legal exposure for such a move.

To that point...

Our system is so stupid.

Whistleblower laws, that POTUS can shut down if they are whistleblowing on him.
Immune from indictment, and indictments cannot toll (he can ride them out in office and never be criminally liable)
An extremely partisan judiciary all the way to SCOTUS
Winner take all structure
POTUS "cannot commit obstruction" according to some right wingers
POTUS can clear anyone for security clearance, even if they fail
Kids in office nepotism
Pay a POTUS resorts and hotels as bribes, legally!

I could go on. What a corruptly designed, pathetic system we have.

Nice Try, but memes only work when there is an element of truth to them.

Trump as President has been the worst thing to ever happen to Putin.

Really? Where have you been? Oh...I think I know...
