A Georgia man shot and killed 3 masked teens as they tried to rob him at his home, police say

It doesn’t mention anything about anyone walking a dog or preparing to go to work or anything. Just says hanging out. And not just one person but multiple people. Whom just happen to have a rifle immediately handy. There’s something kind of odd about this story.

What were the kids doing robbing people before school?

Huh...hate to say it but I wonder if there IS more to this story. It will be interesting to see what comes of it.

Already been the usual, "He didn't have to kill them...they're just kids" whines.

Seems to me Vance didn't see the part where the kids pulled a gun.

Like I said, this is a tragedy all around. Adults failed to parent these kids and 3 of our youth are uselessly slain.

The Homeowner, even with that stupid sign, has to live with the fact they killed 3 people in self defence.

Like I said before, I know the impact this has on people. A friend of mine killed a woman in a car accident. Different circumstance, same end result. He lives with it daily. She ran a stop sign, he t-boned and killed her. Even though he knows it wasn't his fault - there is always the "what if".

This story just sucks, all around.

Most people would feel a lot of guilt if they were involved in the death of another....no matter the situation.

Precisely, which is why this whole situation sucks.

~ More people should arm themselves in their home. It's the best protection and deterrence.

The masked teens -- a 15-year-old and two 16-year-olds -- approached three residents around 4 a.m. Monday at the front yard of a home just outside Conyers and tried to rob them, the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office said.

One of the would-be robbers took out a gun and fired shots at them before one of the residents returned fire, authorities said.

"The victims of the attempted robbery were all uninjured, but the three attempted robbery suspects were all shot during the exchange of gunfire and succumbed to their injuries, one on scene and two at a local hospital after being transported," the sheriff's department said in a news release.

It's not just have a gun, but knowing how to use it.

I have a friend that is an FBI agent. He killed a bank robber that pointed a gun at a cop. Turned out it was a Pellet Gun. It effects him a lot. But he really had no choice it looked exactly like a real gun.

It's sad that empathy is not extended to those who end up being the killer in these contexts, frankly. These people usually need decades if not lifelong counselling.

They have been? in this thread? can you quote them please, thanks

Nah...I dont buy that part. A 'kid' with a gat throwin shots is a killer and age at that point is irrelevant. And I'm not saying there was anything hinky about it. Just...curious about the circumstances is all.

Could be simply not being able to read warning signs.

They should have stayed in school and learned to read warning signs.

So he shot and killed people just walking up to his house? Sounds like he is up for murder pretty soon.

No, three masked men who started shooting first. He returned fire. He was a better shot than they were.

Where does it state that they shot first... because it looks like he just opened fire on some kids walking up to his house.

Were the kids fearful of their lives because they had a gun pulled on them by the homeowner?

yeah.....that must have been it; because its perfectly normal for gun carrying strangers wearing masks to come onto your property at 4 AM.

Im sure it was just a typo in the article where it was stated the home owner returned fire.....Im sure he instigated the whole thing.

Shooting a gun at kids out for a walk in the morning is not a good precedent to set. The home owner could be in serious trouble.

These 3 will be added to the "children killed by gun violence".
" Teenagers bear the brunt of this gun violence: Teens 13 through 17 account for nearly 85 percent of child firearm fatalities, the CDC data show. “Firearm homicides among older children were more likely to be precipitated by another crime, to be gang-related, and to have drug involvement,” last year's Pediatrics study said."

When I most people hear "children", teenage gang bangers doesn't spring to mind.
