A 4-year-old boy was shot dead, allegedly by his 5-year-old sibling, while the mother was asleep in another room, according to police.

The tragic shooting was reported at a home in Fort Worth, Texas, shortly before noon on Sunday, according to Fort Worth police.

Officers responded to preliminary reports that the sibling shot the 4-year-old, who was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The 4-year-old's name was Truth Albright, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office.

No one else was hurt, Fort Worth police officer Jimmy Pollozani said.

The mother was asleep in another room at the time of the shooting, said police.

No arrests have been made, Pollozani said.

It is too early in the investigation to determine if the shooting was accidental, Pollozani said. Detectives are conducting interviews, police added.

Guns are the second leading cause of death for children in the U.S., with nearly 1,700 killed by gun homicides every year, according to Everytown for Gun Safety.

Well, what can be said? Simply another sacrifice on the sacred altar of the 2nd amendment.

Oh yeah, almost forgot: Thoughts and prayers, thoughts and prayers, etc., etc.

No, an adults failure to secure a firearm.

Better take the cops' guns too then.

Few years ago here, an off-duty cop left a loaded gun in his glove compartment in his van with his 7 yr old son and 3 yr old daughter. Went into shop. Son got gun and shot and killed sister.

We will always have stupid and irresponsible people. I'd rather see the right to breed restricted before my means to defend myself from more of them and the clones they raise.

No, an adults failure to secure a firearm.

That and the parents who leave a child in a car with temps in the 90's.

What do we ever do with these people?

Let the law deal with them; unfortunately it cannot undo the damage or loss after the fact.

This is why I support safe storage laws for any home with children under age 16 in them. The mother is to blame here not the 2nd Amendment.

At least the OP didn't claim an UBC or Assault weapons ban could of prevented this.

another gun banner who cannot wait until the bodies are cold before trying to use a tragedy to bash the rights of millions.

ban cars from being driven when the temperature is over 85 degrees?

I'm wondering... How can a 5 year old kid pull the trigger?

Fortunately car manufacturers are working on a back seat sensor to allow the driver know there is a body back there when they lock the doors.

As for guns I don't know what can be done except for trigger locks.

Parents leave a 4 and a 5 year old alone with a loaded gun, and you blame the Second Amendment.

This parent had this gun for self defense, no doubt. They always do.

I'll give you even odds she was not trained in gun safety, because you know, that requirement would be unconstitutional.

If only this 4 year-old had been armed. This tragedy could have been averted, right?

We just don't have enough guns, that's the problem!

I'm wondering... How can a 5 year old kid pull the trigger?

It depends on the firearm. I have a few that have a very light trigger pull and others that are tougher. My parents have a light trigger pull on their handgun because of arthritis.

What makes you think they didnt have that? Or the cop I wrote about? There are trigger locks. You have to USE safety measures for them to actually work.

If it's a semi-auto, you can not keep a round chambered...it takes alot more strength to rack the slide.

What kind of training do you need to lock up or keep a gun out of kids' hands? If you're that stupid, you shouldnt be breeding, but again...we cant prevent that.

There are a million things in homes that need to be 'child-proofed' and yet kids pull TVs over on themselves, get burned on stoves, etc etc etc all the time. You cant force people to act responsibly.

Unless using/carrying, my family maintains all firearms in a gun safe....you are absolutely correct, unused safety features are useless.

Look if the 4 year old is not going to return fire from a position of cover he is just asking for it

Bash the rights of millions ... to kill their toddlers? Are you defending this woman? As far as I'm concerned, she might as well have pulled the trigger herself.

You believe there is absolutely NOTHING, no law, no training, no requirement, that could have ever prevented this tragedy. Because criminals don't obey laws. This woman is a criminal and she ought to go to prison.

How many kids drowned this summer because idiot parents left the pool unsecured?

How many died in hot cars because some idiot parent left them there on a 95 degree day?

How many kids died this year of chemical poisoning because an idiot parent didn't lock up the cabinet?

This list could be quite long.

Kids die every day from preventable accidents. This summer a neighbor kid died, a 5 year old, fell off the ladder his father had left leaning against the house.

Let's hold ALL these parents accountable and give out some severe prison sentences to teach them a good lesson !!!!!!

I'll give you even odds she was not trained in gun safety,

You need to take a training course in order to learn not to leave a loaded firearm around small children?

because you know, that requirement would be unconstitutional.

It doesn't have to be a requirement. Why not offer a free firearm training course to anyone who wants it?

What makes you think they didnt have that? Or the cop I wrote about? There are trigger locks. You have to USE safety measures for them to actually work.

I am not niave enough to thibk passing such a law would reduce these incidents significantly, I support such laws as a way of making charging reckless behaviour easier.

It doesn't have to be a requirement. Why not offer a free firearm training course to anyone who wants it?

Nope. Can't do that because it would result in a database of gun owners, and that is a slippery slope to tyranny, dontchaknow?

you are making up stuff I never said. I am merely saying that you are an anti gun extremist and you are engaged in the disgusting activity of using this tragedy to try to advance your hatred of the second amendment. You know that the second amendment has nothing to do with this. It is as stupid as blaming the repeal of the amendment banning booze with say the infamous Carroll Ky, bus fire, where a drunk driver slammed into a school bus and a bunch of students died in the fire.
