Uh, I think "Oh, by the way, the person whom we claimed was victimized by a SCOTUS Justice in fact has no memory of the event" is a pretty BFD, in regards to this story. False stories, like this one, always run ahead of their corrections, and that's been the story of the entire, idiotic, lurid, disgusting mess around accusations against Kavanaugh.
This would sort of be like "[Insert Whomever Is The Democrat Candidate in 2020 here] RAPES CHILDREN*"
It turns out that we knew at the time there was no evidence for this claim. We apologize for the oversight, but you should still give us full props for self-critical honesty because we are saying it now.
How in the everloving f*** an entity that looks on itself as a "Media" organization like the Times can run this story without bothering to find out whether or not the alleged victim even thinks it happened....
....well, it should be astonishing. But it isn't, anymore :-/
You know, as a Conservative who loathes what Trump has done to the GOP and the "Conservative" movement writ large, and who gets into arguments with Trump fans on a regular basis, it sure would be a lot easier to push back on Trumpkin claims about the media if the media didn't keep validating them.
