Texas Republican lawmaker to Beto O'Rourke: 'My AR is ready for you'

Beto was a darling of the enlightened left for a while, but he doesn't really seem to fit in as a Texan.

Some good ole boy style Texas Rep tells Beto if he wants his AR15 try come and take it. In response O'Rouke in a panic starts shouting "He threatened me! Did all of you hear that?! He threatened to shoot me!!!"

That doesn't sound Texan to me. Texas is the gun capital of the United States. Possibly only Alaskans love their guns and gun rights more.

United States. He won't get your vote, but with a little seasoning he could win big in a few years. He is smart, articulate and passionate. He has broad appeal and not afraid to say what he thinks. He has a future, as evident by his performance in the Texas US Senate race of 2018.

LMAO. Beto is an empty suit who I doubt will ever be elected to anything ever again. I have no idea why people even bother to listen to him- his rhetoric is shallow and laughable. He's fading in the polls with good reason.

It's not a threat. It's a variation of the historical Texas "come and take it".

No one person should, and certainly not me. So what about you, do you have an opinion on this sort of thinly veiled threat? Or do you say no problem?

Right now, he's just anther candidate. What's he polling, 3%?

And he's saying he's going to take our AR-15's and AK-47's. Does he know what he's saying? Does he know that he is talking about to very different guns? How many people does he think have AK-47's?

I am not talking about 2020.

...and, guns are a fading issue for Republicans. The populism on this issue is moving toward the Dems. Though O'Roake's statement yesterday may have been a tad bit too bold for 2020, he was smart to set himself up as a champion of reasonable gun reform.

A few more horrific mass shootings with the Republicans kowtowing to the NRA in response will not work in their political favor. They are already vastly out of step with the American people on this issue. All they are doing is building the potential energy of the political pendulum such that it will swing fast and far away from them. An arrogant disregard for the will of the American people is not a good game to be playing when you core constituency is shrinking.

I just googled that and learned a lot, which is one reason I like these forums, I'm exposed to lots of new stuff. But, be that as it may I would have taken it as fighting words for sure. And I still do.
If another man were to look you directly into your eyes and say come take them. What do you do???
If it's me, then as Cartman would say......Then I guess it's on....lol

Beto may not be president in 2021... but his future is pretty bright. POTUS may well be in his future.

Lol, I nearly shot Dr.Pepper out of my nose reading that. Thanks for the laugh.

If AoC and Francis are the future of the Democratic party then we are doomed with a one party Republican state.

Riiiight, so if I were to tell the cops that it isn't a threat but a refusal to relinquish my illegal drugs that would be ok to you right and not a threat?

If I were on the jury I would say not guilty as I would view it as an unjust law. If you ever did break one of the many BS laws we have, pray that I am one of your jurors because more than likely you will be going free.

The idea is that if Beto Rourke were able to make the guns illegal, than it would be a threat. Hence my comments so glad you admit it is a threat.

Even if by some chance Francis was elected President, was somehow able to make them illegal, he wouldn't have the nerve to go and retrieve the weapons himself so it is all a moot point as there is no possibility of that "threat" coming to fruition. It would be a funny troll if Republicans made a bill that made them illegal but those that voted for the bill had to go door to door to collect the rifles themselves, it wouldn't get a single vote.

It is fighting words but so were Beto's.

Simply walk away as it is obvious the man cares about his property and is willing to fight to protect it.

Texas Republican lawmaker to Beto O'Rourke: 'My AR is ready for you'

Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Republican Texas state Rep. Briscoe Cain drew fierce ire Thursday night for a gun-related tweet that many considered to be a death threat against Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke.

Twitter took the comment down within hours because it violated a rule forbidding threats of violence and O'Rourke's campaign planned to report the tweet to the FBI, according to CNN. It's against federal law to threaten "major candidates" for president.

The online conflict came on the heels of two mass shootings in Texas and on the night that O'Rourke debated fellow Democratic presidential candidates in Houston. O'Rourke, a former congressman from El Paso, touted his proposed mandatory buyback program for assault weapons at the debate and said "hell yes" he plans to take Americans' AR-15s and AK-47s.

"My AR is ready for you Robert Francis," Cain tweeted, calling O'Rourke by his full first and middle names.

COMMENT:-

Taking enlightened political discourse to new levels, eh wot?

Of course, he "was only exercising his First Amendment Rights in defence of his Second Amendment Rights" so there is "Nothing to see here folks, move along, move along." - right?
More proof that the real aim with owning the AR is to kill.

1. That lawmaker was wrong to tweet such words.

2. But the bigger topic remains: Should those particular weapons be confiscated?

a. I hope NOT. There are plenty of bad individuals in this country, and they are bound to become more brazen during the coming decades. So ordinary people need all the weapons necessary to protect themselves, their families, and their communities.

3. The future United States of America, IMHO, will not be a pretty picture.

:lamo He out spent Cruz by a huge factor and lost anyway. Cruz isn't that popular among Republicans so he doesn't turn out the vote that well. His fellow Republicans in the Senate dislike him. So Beto should not pat himself on the back. Against a better funded better liked candidate Beto would have not only been beaten but also slaughtered. And the things Beto has campaigned on like forcibly removing guns has forever destroyed his chances of winning a senator race in Texas.

Perfect example for when a "high" capacity magazine is needed.

Agree 100% He is toast for any state wide race in Texas now. I doubt he could win a race for a dog catcher in many Texas cities now.

Right :lamo He will have to move to another state before he wins another office. Beto is an idiot.

Just as I thought. I bet he drives a jacked up 4x4 to compensate.

Seems people are reading too much into this. His comment is essentially another way of saying if Robert Francis wants his gun to come and get them. Molon Labe is a common phrase Pro2a people say, it isn't an actual threat but a refusal to relinquish our weapons.

Molon labe?

So, move along. It’s all OK.

It was an idle threat, not a real one, according to the secret code gun nuts talk to each other in.

Would really help the ‘responsible gun owner’ side if they didn’t present as nutcases so often.
