While most North Carolinians were remembering the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, the Republican majority in the General Assembly took advantage of a half-empty House and voted to override the governor’s budget veto Wednesday morning, the governor said.

Gov. Roy Cooper (D) said at a news conference that House Republicans called for a “surprise vote” while he and House members were honoring first responders on the anniversary of 9/11.

“Republicans called a deceptive surprise override of my budget veto,” Cooper said. “Unfortunately, it’s the people of North Carolina who lose.”

This was an absolutely disgusting move by Republicans in NC

Democrats were at a ceremony honoring 911 First Responders and Republicans backed out of an agreement not to introduce bills.

Real scummy move

Should not surprise anyone. Like i said. The right has no interest in working with the left. In any capacity.

No, they weren't, except for the governor and one other democrat; everyone else of the democrats just goofed off.
Republicans made no agreement not to introduce bills.

Deal like this between Parties are common. What happened here is Republicans pulled a disgusting and scummy political move

Try and justify it till the cows come home, but in the end they pulled a scummy political move

"... the House put the budget veto override on the calendar every day, but didn’t call for a vote until Wednesday. Speaker Tim Moore, a Republican, repeatedly told the press and public he would call the vote when he thought he had enough votes for an override.

The budget override was on the calendar for Wednesday’s morning session.

... “I confirmed that there was never any notice that went out saying there would not be recorded votes,” Moore said. ..."

Lazy-ass democrats decided to take another day off after their 6-week summer break ...

Democrats say many of their members missed the morning session because they were told verbally that there would be no vote on the budget.

House Minority Leader Darren Jackson said Rep. David Lewis, a Republican who presided as House speaker on Tuesday, told him there would be no vote.

The vote was taken during the moment of silence honoring the victims of 9/11

And the more the GOP resorts to these moves, the more the democrats are going to do the same moving forward. Winning the battle at the expense of the war seems to be the GOP strategy in a post Trump political climate. Things are going to get even uglier now.

Democrats could have been in the chambers during that moment of silence.

Instead of observing it?

Why would perceive that as not observing it, the tradition and common practice doesn't require you to leave your work or walk out side to observe the moment of silence.

David Lewis denies having said so ... at least that what it said in the article I linked to.

How DARE the Republicans behave in a manner as sleazy as the Democrats!!!!!

:2mad:

Show us an equivalent example.

You can't. Everyone knows you can't.

Luckily, the Democrats NEVER do scummy things.

Just ask Jeffrey Epstein!!!!

Deplorable. Democrats should start holding legislative and Congressional sessions on as many Sundays and Christian holidays as they can.

(I'm half-joking, in case anyone's too dim-witted to figure that out.)

This sort of GOP-inspired trash began in 2014, two years before Trump took office. North Carolina is the case study for what the GOP has been doing all over.

I'm sure he does. It must have just been a coincidence that all of them were under the impression that there would be no vote on 9/11.

Right. Considering that the Democrats have been guarding against an override vote for months, I sincerely doubt that they all dropped their guard at the same time without a bogus assurance from Republicans.

I don't really agree with some of the republicans tactics. But yeah, apparently the same vein still remains. It's only deceptive when its republicans doing it... yeah this shtick gets old.

So it's he said, she said right now?

Go figure, just wait until the anonymous sources start coming out on this one.

No one said this is only deceptive when Republicans do it. By the way, when did Democrats do it?

Going all the way back to Obama's issues around FISA, and the use of the Steele dossier. All the way through the DNC's treatment of not just Bernie, but more of their own people in the debates. Edging them out by manipulating rules for acceptations and polling data, like we've seen with Gabbard.

I still don't even know if this incident actually was what they're saying it is. Because we still have the who "he said, she said" thing going on at the moment.
