Hundreds of Bahamians told to leave evacuation ship headed to US: report

Fine. Whatever you say works for me. I'm done with this stupidity.

Of course you are. Whatever Trump does is by definition the most amazing thing ever done. People can't believe how fantastic it is.

So how dare these people put down Trump for doing something so amazing. What stupidity!

Trump had NOTHING to do with this and the fact that so many of you can't manage to figure that out is pathetic. The fact that in some way shape or form you feel a need to blame the US for every problem someone runs into just shows that you really care more about politics than you do about people and I find that to be utterly disgusting.

This article gives an explanation for what happened - CBP Blames Ferry Company After More Than 100 People Fleeing Bahamas Are Told to Get Off Rescue Boat Because They Don't Have U.S. Visas

So do we assume that the guy from CBP is lying or do we assume that someone from the ferry service either misinterpreted their orders or went with their own plan? What REALLY makes more sense?

I don't care how much y'all hate Donald Trump. Taking that story at face value and running with it was pure partisan hackery and everyone in the media that just ran with it exposed themselves as being totally agenda driven. The lack of integrity and professionalism in the way this story was handled is shameful.

-edit-

It also seems that the ferry company was CHARGING for the trip.

ooooops.....they did it again....

the fires get put out quicker and quicker.

Trump haters try so hard to make the reader believe that Trump is acting like the big bad boogie man but to no avail.

At this point, all their fake news sources, feigned outrage born of the leftist echo chamber deserve nothing but mocking.

Are you sure?

Because depending on who you ask, it seems like you get different answers, which is always the hall mark of a well managed institution.

I expect it's a pretty confusing time to work at CBP.

All the mocking you've done the past two years was unjustified?

I do indeed: exactly where it happens, which was here.

You've got no basis to call anyone out for partisan hackery, you know it, and now you're running away from the why:

(I could also note how you could have responded to a point about the thread if you were so horribly offended by getting called out for partisan hackery - ie, post 53 and others - but then why do that when you can pretend you take the high road?)

Neither do you....and there is a name for those that do this.

but you be sure to carry on...

toodles :2wave:

The news today just said a lot of the food supplies are rotting on the docks because most of the people have fled Abaco Island.

How sad is this?

Surely, Trump haters will find a way to make it all his fault.

But Dorian was Trump's fault!!

The Dems have given Trump God like status and that makes him to be blamed if anything goes wrong.

I don't do paywalled stories but if the WaPo is talking about this video then Trump actually said the SAME THING that Silva did in the article I referenced earlier. Trump added some stuff about gang members and stuff but he detailed the same exact process that Silva mentioned.

There is enough money in the Clinton Foundation to help them.

Politician worship.

Why would anyone send perishable food into a disaster zone? What sense does that make?

The reporter was standing in front of case after case of eggs.. I'm guessing that Royal Bahamian or other cruise lines donated their supplies to get food to feed the people quickly. But that is just a guess.

Hundreds of Bahamians told to leave evacuation ship headed to US: report | TheHill

Hundreds of Bahamians attempting to flee the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian were reportedly told to leave a ship if they did not have a visa to enter the United States.

Video posted Sunday on Twitter by Brian Entin, a reporter for Miami-based Fox affiliate WSVN, showed an announcement being made aboard the Balearia ferry, which was transporting evacuees from the Bahamas to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., saying visas are required for everyone on board attempting to enter the U.S.

These people have nothing but a pile of s***t for a homeland & CBP sticks this to them? I guess this will have to be rewritten: Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door! The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc.

Anyone who quotes the poem on the Declaration of Independence claiming this was a call for everyone on earth to come here is totally ignorant of the history of the poem and immigration in that era. In fact, you and they would go absolutely hysterical if the USA changed our immigration laws and practices to that era.

If never refrigerated eggs will last a very long time. They can be preserved without refrigeration for over a year in salt brine, 2 years if packed in lime and salt, and even longer if pickled. Many countries ban stores refrigerating eggs for that reason.

Why doesn't the UK take them in? It was an English colony and settled as the UK had it inhabited.

The Bahamas is the 3rd richest country in the Americas after the USA and Canada.

I wonder why the cruise ship could bring 1,100 Bahamians into Palm Beach without a problem

Palm Beach County is sheltering 61 Bahamians evacuated from the hurricane-ravaged nation, as of Sunday evening.

Roughly 1,100 Bahamians came over to the Port of Palm Beach aboard the Grand Celebration cruise ship Saturday. Most have been reunited with friends and family, the county said, and some are staying at a shelter managed by the American Red Cross, the county said.

Interesting, don't you think that only 6% of the refugees on the cruise ship need shelter? Kind of shows how connected south Florida and the Bahamas are with each other.

While Bahamas are a very wealthy nation, 3rd in the Americas only behind the USA and Canada, the income disparity is far greater than in the USA or Canada. Most Bahamians are very low income.

Probably 2/3rds of Bahamians would come to the USA if they could before the hurricane. Probably 3 billion people from around the world would come here if they could. Most would instantly be rich compared to where they came from: free housing, free electricity, air conditioning and heat, free cell phone, free food, free medical care, money to help with the children and a safe, free wonderful society of wonderful people they can live off of.

Good job Customs... we don't know who these people are. There could be drug dealers and criminals in there, easily.

This is a friendly nation that has been devastated. That these artificial barriers weren't kicked down in advance reflects poorly on the Trump administration and it's priorities.

Plenty of area on the Bahama's that was not devastated that they can be cared for at... no need to bring them to the USA>

Rich compared to where they came from is a poor metric... making $5 a day here might be 5x what they made there... but it is still only $5 a day.

CBP Blames Ferry Company After More Than 100 People Fleeing Bahamas Are Told to Get Off Rescue Boat Because They Don't Have U.S. Visas
On Saturday, he said, CBP Florida assisted more than 1,200 Hurricane Dorian survivors who arrived at the Port of Palm Beach, Florida, on the Grand Celebration cruise ship, without incident.

"They had coordinated with CBP at least a couple of days before, so we were able to work with them to make sure that everyone was properly documented," he said. He added: "We even brought out additional personnel officers from Miami to assist with the processing and we were able to coordinate with the state and non-profit organizations to have them there to help provide shelter and any other sort of assistance from medical guidance to spiritual and psychological support...You name it."

They worked things out ahead of time. The ferry outfit also had that opportunity but, for whatever reason, chose to leave the people instead of work things out.

It wasn't a CBP problem.

It was a ferry outfit problem.

Utter nonsense promulgated by a certain group in the US. You know not whereof you speak but I know you think you do.

Of course the agency is now attempting to shift the blame just like the NOAA administrator trying to blame NWS meteorologists for Trump's stupid Dorian/Alabama nonsense. Seems to me that old Harry Truman would be just a bit upset with some of these administrators, laying blame on lower-level workers.
