House Democrats probe use of taxpayer money at Trump hotels

House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md., said that his panel "does not believe that U.S. taxpayer funds should be used to personally enrich President Trump, his family, and his companies."

"We have been focused on the Mueller report and that is a very small part of the overall picture," said Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin, a member of the Judiciary panel. "We must get America focused on the ongoing violations against basic Constitutional principles."

In addition to looking at Trump’s use of his properties, two House committees are continuing to investigate his relationship with banks with which he did business. And the Judiciary panel is also expected to investigate hush money payments that Trump paid to kill potentially embarrassing stories.

Trump continues to be dogged by investigations. But, nothing seems to stick. Teflon Trump?

If by "nothing seems to stick" you mean, Trump's action have no political consequences, then you're wrong. Republicans paid a steep price for Trump's debauchery last midterm, when they should have only had mild losses with the way the economy was/is going at the time.

OTOH, there is nothing that will push that 40% that adores him to ever let go, no matter how badly corrupt he becomes, and how badly he performs.

That's coming down quite a bit from treason/Russian collusion.

I honestly don't care what Cummings thinks. his opinion is irrelevent vs what the law says.
So please show us where the president is not allowed to stay at any hotel that he wants?

Also please include that any trip or stay was not approved by the ethics committee prior to going.

Making up non-existent laws could get Cummings in trouble.

What will they do if he is sentenced to prison time?

Listen, I know it's vast, but can you please step outside of your ignorance for just a little bit? Please?

Pence went to Ireland and spent taxpayer money staying at Trumps hotel, across an entire ****ing country from the place he was visiting.

Oh well then, that'll make up for all the money Trump spent on the campaign trail to become President:lamo

Trump spent 66 million on his campaign and he's already spent more than 100 million golfing at his own resorts during his presidency.

This is for you:

Have you ever actually been in Ireland? One can drive around the country at a leisurely pace -- hitting the sites ect-- in about a week's time.
I suspect Pence would travel about via helicopter and would be much quicker.

i would also suspect Trump property overseas has enhanced guarding when no officials are present.

I'm sorry, were you trying to make a point about wasteful spending?

If he started caring about and helping brown skin people, a good chunk of his base would disappear. According to Trump.

Trump's Midterm Closing Argument: Pure Racial Fear

If he thought they cared more about the economy than hating brown skinned people, then his closing argument would have been about the economy.

Here’s why:

The Foreign Emoluments Clause (art. I, § 9, cl. 8): “[N]o Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under [the United States], shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.”

It is possible, even likely, that the Democrats will take the White House, House of Representatives, AND the Senate in 2020.

He can't make any income off the United States other than his salary, per the Constitution.

The President shall, at stated Times, receive for his Services, a Compensation, which shall neither be encreased nor diminished during the Period for which he shall have been elected, and he shall not receive within that Period any other Emolument from the United States, or any of them.

Oh well then, that'll make up for all the money Trump spent on the campaign trail to become President:lamo

Donald spent $66,141,713 on his campaign. You can study the detail here:

Summary data for Donald Trump, 2016 cycle • OpenSecrets

However, the law (the United States Constitution), stipulates that Trump is not allowed to profit from his office as President. He is paid a salary, and that is all he is allowed to get as President.

If a sitting President violates this, the Congress may remove him from office. So far, the Congress has not chosen to do so. That could change.

Congressmen aren't allowed to profit from their office, either, but they're all millionares. The DOJ needs to be digging into their financial records.

Question:

Will Teflon Don get away with it all?

It could be a case of "The boy who called wolf too many times." It might be those who aren't avid, fevered anti-Trumpers are just ignoring all of these things the Democrats investigate. Back to the boy who called wolf. It may seems to those who just shrug at another new investigation that the Democrats have been doing these things in an attempt to destroy Trump since the day after the election. Or they just don't care anymore, they have become sick and tired of this whole partisan mess that hitting the ignore button is the only option left.

Who really knows? Those are by best guesses. What we do know is 38% of all Americans view the democrats in congress positively, 31% view Republicans in congress positively, 43% view Trump positively, 35% view Pelosi in a positive light, 28% the same of Schumer, 23% McCarthy and 27% of McConnell.

Let's face it, there is no love for either political party, for Trump and for congress or those in congress. Especially the leaders. Strange as it seems, of all those I mentioned, Trump has the highest favorable's at 43% of any of them. Maybe, just maybe, most Americans would like to see the end of polarization and ultra high partisanship and have the two parties, have congress and the president start to work together for the good of the country instead of the good of the political party.

Just a few more guesses.

Teflon Don is the most unpopular President since Gerald Ford.
