Migrant children separated from their parents through the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy experienced more severe mental trauma than children who were not separated, according to a government watchdog report.
Separated children “exhibited more fear, feelings of abandonment, and post-traumatic stress” than children who were not separated, according to a report released Wednesday by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) inspector general.
According to the report, some children did not understand why they were being separated and sometimes thought their parents had abandoned them. Mental health staff said some children expressed so much grief and confusion over the separation that they cried inconsolably.

Do people understand that we, (the US) is committing crimes against humanity? Do we understand that our own government is intentionally causing young children to be traumatized, forever changing their lives and their futures? This blatant abuse by our own government makes me sick to my stomach and I feel deep shame for my country.

"A program director relayed the story of a 7- or 8-year-old boy who was separated from his father, without any explanation as to why the separation occurred. The child believed his father had been killed and thought that he would also be killed."

Have we collectively lost our humanity?

If only there were something, anything, that migrants could do to avoid being separated from their children.

This is absolutely the Japanese internment camps of our era.

Simple solution is don't break the law.

For your information, according to United States immigration law, they are within their legal rights to apply for amnesty. Look it up, I dare you.

So when Obama said in no uncertain terms, "Do not send your children to the border", you thought he was just full of ****?

Once he is out of office, we need to move forward with prosecution of his crimes. We must not let him go unpunished.

If we don't, then the USA being a nation of laws is a myth.

So when Obama said in no uncertain terms, "Do not send your children to the border", you thought he was just full of ****?

Once again, a republican fascist takes a statement made by President Barack Hussein Obama, out of context and as logical people know, context is everything. Here's the exact quotation:

“Our message absolutely is don't send your children unaccompanied, on trains or through a bunch of smugglers,” “We don't even know how many of these kids don't make it, and may have been waylaid into sex trafficking or killed because they fell off a train.

“Do not send your children to the borders,” “If they do make it, they'll get sent back. More importantly, they may not make it.”

Can you discern the differences? He was telling people not to send their children UNACCOMPANIED or with SMUGGLERS. That's FAR different than children accompanied WITH their own parents!!

Simple solution is don't break the law.

The punishment does not fit the crime and victimizes innocent children.

Simple solution is don't break the law.
We wouldn't lock the kids of murders, rapists, child rapists, terrorists, or any other crime ever to have occurred in human history up in these conditions.

I only wish he were younger so he could spend more years languishing in a prison.

So your are justifying taking children away from their parents because they committed a misdemeanor?

If that’s the case, should we stand outside all the bars and arrest people for public drunkenness, and then toss their children in a cage indefinitely? What about spitting on someone? I had a bicyclist once who drifted over into my lane. I didn’t know how to warn him other than tapping the horn, so I did. He spat towards me. That is considered assault, which is a misdemeanor. Should his children have been taken away from him and tossed in a cage?

"Catch and release" is not an acceptable solution.

"According to those who treat them, many children enter the facilities after fleeing violence and experiencing direct threats to their safety during their journey to the United States."

Sure incarceration is tough, but how much trauma was visited on the kids by the Coyotes and Gangs?

Relative Privation fallacy.

No amount of out-of-context whatabouting to Obama or any other Democrat will ever cleanse this Nation’s hands from what the Neo-Nazi skkkumbag SStephen Miller has done.

Plaster Miller's face and Kushner’s for-profit cages over every repub running for office. Remind every American that Deutsche Donald’s worthless wall is coming from 127 stalled military projects and FEMA.

I'm justifying it because the parents chose to break into our country. That has far greater consequences than any of the petty offenses you mention.

Obama killed children, and they didn't give a damn for eight long, bloody years.

And yet Obama murdered children...

When they come through a legal port of entry, yes.

But crossing the border illegally is, you guessed it.. illegal.

Cortez showed just how much she didn't know when she tried this same pony show. It simply doesn't work.
