[h=1]White House to Relax Energy Efficiency Rules for Light Bulbs[/h]
The Trump administration plans to significantly weaken federal rules that would have forced Americans to use much more energy-efficient light bulbs, a move that could contribute to greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming.
The proposed changes would eliminate requirements that effectively meant that most light bulbs sold in the United States — not only the familiar, pear-shaped ones, but several other styles as well — must be either LEDs or fluorescent to meet new efficiency standards.

The rules being weakened, which dated from 2007 and the administration of President George W. Bush and slated to start in the new year, would have all but ended the era of the incandescent bulb invented more than a century ago. Eliminating inefficient bulbs nationwide would save electricity equivalent to the output of at least 25 large power plants, enough to power all homes in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, according to an estimate by the The Natural Resources Defense Council.

Ok, what could possibly be the rationale for rolling the rules back? I can only think of two reasons: 1) A childish insistence that nobody is going to tell me what type of bulb to buy. 2) The Trump Administration's quest to bring America back to the 1950s.

From where I sit, this train has long left the station. Consumers like compact florescent and LED bulbs that have both vastly improved and come down radically in price, since the rule was made in 2007. Industry is also geared up to make the newer bulbs. There are now no advantages to the old bulbs.

I see nothing in rolling back the rule that makes America great. In fact, it makes us look idiotic. The new bulbs save consumers money and are better for the planet.

I had a thought about this but it was the politically incorrect wattage.

The new bulbs don't work in lava lamps as well, they don't help keep the washer from freezing up in the few cold days. That's my only grips about them.

I would love to have light bulb choices as the major issue of concern in my life. Don't see why this ruffles anyones panties.

I've had lots of issues with LED bulbs not lasting nearly as long as they claim, some don't even last as long as incandescents. Just had one go out last week that lasted about 8 months.

I still use them in most fixtures, but incandescents are still superior for light output and for look (e.g. exposed candelabra bulbs).

The questions you should be asking are, "Why on Earth is the federal government telling me I can't buy an incandescent light bulb? Who the hell do they think they are?"

Is that power in the Constitution somewhere? For God's sake, do we need any more proof that the federal government is far beyond their Constitutional limits?

I wonder how many States would have voted to ratify the Constitution if they knew it would lead to powers such as these? Uh... somewhere around ZERO!

Bravo, President Trump!

Fluorescent and LED lights give me headaches.

I don't have any in my house except the laundry room where the fixture installed there demands them.

I find these kind of actions silly. If we can encourage more efficient use of energy, it should be a no-brainer. I do think the market forces will take care of this though because LED bulbs are going to be the mainstay for many since they offer a lot of functional flexibility for people who have integrated home technology. The price drop has also helped a lot because at first they were pretty expensive. I made the change early on because the lifespan of LED bulbs was much better than incandescent variety. The light quality for LEDs has also improved a lot as well.

Did Obama have anything to do with this? If so, that is your answer.

Gee, let me think?

Maybe because:

I agree with that. Seems like a lot of it is Trump just doing crap to piss off the left and give the base something to cheer. If a Democrat hates it the base loves it. But from what I see it's going quickly to LEDs or fluorescents anyway. I'm good with it. We've had good luck with them, and after converting a bunch of lights in rooms we use all the time, we saw or electric bills go down in the winter (gas heat) and converted the rest over time.

We had some bad luck with one off brand we bought several of and they were garbage. I'm not usually brand conscious, but GE bulbs just have worked better for us than the others. One older hanging fixture in the kitchen didn't like the first couple of sets of bulbs, but we finally found some that worked, and used the others elsewhere. But other than that, haven't changed a bulb not an old incandescent in a very long time. Can't recall offhand the last one...

Well you're probably right, I'm sure there's nothing to it.

If you really want some nice LED bulbs, don't buy the cheap ones. Look for ones with high color rendering indexes. They are incredible. I installed some track lighting in my wife's Art Studio, and used these bulbs - Incredible!

Yeah seems pretty stupid. The led market of course has its lemons, off brands that are horrible and a rough START but now they are great! Currently almost ever light in my house is led including appliance lights. the only lights that arent currently our the fluorescent tube lights in the garage and two sets in the basement. But the tube lights in the bathroom and kitchen are led. I havent replaced the garage and basement because they are 8 footers and they do last really long and ive been too lazy to remove the ballast and rewire them lol but as soon as one starts to get dark BOOM! They are gone.

I love them!! if you know what you are actually doing and arent lazy and you pay attention to color and wattage etc they are awesome and save me big time on my electric bill. i buy only GE or Phillips though. I did have a Phillips die randomly early but i sent an email and proof they sent me a two pack.

The only issue ive had is you gotta pay extra attention (again dont be lazy) when you need dimmable ones or ones for a touch lamp etc. But I buy most of them from amazon or lowes and i just returned them if they didnt work right.

No just no. Modern LEDS are far brighter than the old ones that put out far more heat than light. And they have the coolest decorative bulbs too. And best of all most new LED bulbs will outlast you. No more replacing bulbs....ever.

It is totally inappropriate for the Federal government to outlaw LED bulbs, I know of no science for doing so.

does this mean that Glenn Back can stop hoarding incandescents?

He can sell them now. And there will be a line of suckers willing to pay $10 a piece for them, particularly if it's to
"serve'' the ''cause" (the cause being Glen Beck)
