Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg treated for pancreatic cancer

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been treated for pancreatic cancer in New York City, the Supreme Court announced Friday.

"The tumor was treated definitively and there is no evidence of disease elsewhere in the body," the court said.
Here is the full statement from the Supreme Court:

"Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg today completed a three-week course of stereotactic ablative radiation therapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. The focused radiation treatment began on August 5 and was administered on an outpatient basis to treat a tumor on her pancreas. The abnormality was first detected after a routine blood test in early July, and a biopsy performed on July 31 at Sloan Kettering confirmed a localized malignant tumor. As part of her treatment, a bile duct stent was placed. The Justice tolerated treatment well. She cancelled her annual summer visit to Santa Fe, but has otherwise maintained an active schedule. The tumor was treated definitively and there is no evidence of disease elsewhere in the body. Justice Ginsburg will continue to have periodic blood tests and scans. No further treatment is needed at this time."
This story is breaking and will be updated.

My best to her... She certainly has the fighter spirit.

Wow, and after the other cancer issues she’s already gone through. I can imagine her family must be very concerned. Best wishes to her.

She's very fortunate to catch these tumors early. Cancer is such an awful disease.

Tough cookie for sure. All the best and speedy recovery.

It is this same form of pancreatic cancer that Trebek has? I haven't looked into it much.

Pancreatic cancer is usually a short death sentence. But I am amazed at how well Trebek looks and is doing. More power to him.

Reminds me of one of those B17s during the war. Two engines are one fire and smoke is billowing from the third. The crew are throwing armor plating out of huge holes blown in the sides by German 88 flak guns. The landing gear is dangling cause all the hydralic fluid has drained out. And there's this Messerschmidt trailing her; the pilot amazed that the thing is still limping along.

To everybody fighting this. My little sister was diagnosed one October and gone by February. But then there are exceptions such as Patrick Swayze. He held out a relatively long time. And Justice Ginsburg, as has been said, is a tough cookie. I hope she is an exception too.

Cancer just sucks..... It can strike anybody at anytime. Six years ago Dad was diagnosed with Lung cancer
and 6 weeks later he was gone! It is a situation that on one wants to be in! Every individual handles in
their own way and time. The best to RBG.

Sorry for your loss, nota.

Sorry to hear this about Justice Ginsburg. Politically, I disagree with her on pretty much everything but there is no denying what a strong lady she is. If anyone can kick cancer’s ass, she can.

One of my cousins lived several years with pancreatic cancer but the battle to get it into remission did a lot of damage elsewhere so I can't say they were particularly high quality years.

My condolences for your loss nota bene. :( I also lost a sibling to cancer and it's so sad. I do hope that Ruth Bader Ginsburg is an exception too, wishing her well.

Thank you for your condolences, X. Because of her terrible suffering, we were all relieved and grateful when it ended.

It is sad. You lose a part of yourself when a sister or brother dies. It's been three years now, but on one level, I can still hardly believe it.

RBG is a medical marvel. She has defeated colon cancer, lung cancer, and this is her second time defeating pancreatic cancer.

Really sorry to hear about your sister.

This has to be one of those things where people can just politics aside and hope and pray or offer whatever good thoughts you have to her successful treatment.

The democrats are even more concerned that Trump will be appointing the next Associate Justice.

Absolutely. RBG is a great American and she's served as a patriot, inspiring God know how many people to strive, reach and be accomplish. I hope she kicks the big C's fat, ugly, smelly arse.

I did a quick check, and what I learned years ago still seems true.

Pancreatic cancer doesn't go away, and with treatment, the survival rate I just read was 20% after 1 year. The five year survival rate is only 7%.

Looks like president Trump will likely be appoint an associate judge.

Do you have a link for this? I'm trying to understand the basis for a President appointing an associate judge. Thanks.

This looks pretty frikkin’ goulish, dude, like you’re rooting for the cancer.

It is just reality with some cancers. A second recurrence of ovarian cancer is particularly bleak as well.
