New Law in CA: Can't discriminate against Natural hair

Answer: Hair does dread on it's own.

Traditionally, it was believed that in order to create dreadlocks in non afro-textured hair, an individual had to refrain from brushing, combing or cutting. This lack of hair grooming results in what is called "free form" or "neglect" dreads, where the hair matts together slowly of its own accord. Such dreads tend to vary greatly in size, width, shape, length, and texture. If the wearer is interested in any uniformity of their dreads, they must pull the matted strands of hair apart to ensure large clumps don't form. All that is needed alongside the regular separating of sections is regular washing; oily dirty hair will slide along each other and never form knots. Some people will spray a water solution with added sea salt and essential oils to dry the hair and accelerate the matting process.

In California, the legislation is a for-profit operation. This is a worthless feel good law that will see very little application, but the money spends just the same.

I guess there was sufficient contributions (likely from private and public sources) to make the machine churn out the sausage.

Think of all the activists that were paid for weeks and months to "convince" state reps to vote for this (the majority of whom were already going to vote yes under any circumstance.)

It's like if someone hires a contractor to knock down a wall and then build it again exactly the same. He's not going to argue unless they fail to pay him.

What does that have to do with anything? We are talking about clear discrimination against especially African American women. You do understand that African American women generally have different type of hair than say white or asian women right?
 
This is another woke law that's designed to give black folks special privileges.

I saw other black soldiers that thought they should be exempted from the grooming standards and I never missed the chance to tell them they were stupid for thinking they were somehow exempt.
 
1. This is 2019.

2. Bosses can no longer be tyrants.

3. In theory, a boss should have the right to decide what "look" s/he wants her/his employees to have. But in reality, a boss no longer has that right. That's how the cookie crumbles.

4. I believe that the armed forces should mandate a military look: short hair, no beard, etc. They should look like soldiers, for goodness' sake!

a. But in 2019, many soldiers are males AND females who want to express their individuality and pride. So they are now allowed to do their own thing. Welcome to 2019 America!

This is anecdotal, but dreadlocks are different because I don't think you can wash them and they stink. Every person I've been around with dreads stunk. Bad.

We’re talking about discrimination against hairstyles, not African American women, women of any race who prepare their hair in professional style do not need a law like this. It’s sweeping socialism intended to break all norms of society

Heading on over to India, the earliest historical reference of locs comes from 1800 BCE (and the credit goes to the Hindu holy men called the sadhus). There is also evidence of Ancient Egyptians rocking locs as well as various African tribes, such as the Maasai of Kenya (who have been rocking locs for only God knows how long).

Only the bussinesses not smart enough to not infringe on individual rights will be gone. Everyonbe else will still be in bussiness.

So...let me get this straight. A law that protects a black woman who might be forced by her company to adopt the hairstyles common to white women is somehow morphed into discrimination against black people on the part of the people making the law.

Actually they are. All you have to do to get dreadlocks is...do nothing to your hair for a few months. About as natural as it gets.

Iirc, the oldest recorded mentioning of dreadlocks was 3600 years ago. Pretty insane and long popular a hair style that is "ridiculous."

Dreadlocks are not a race, they are a lifestyle choice.

Look at Africans who are actual immigrants from Africa, none are sporting dreads. The vast majority of African Americans do not wear dreadlocks, so clearly it is not a racial issue.
