Bernie Sanders’ ‘Green New Deal’: A $16 Trillion Climate Plan - The New York Times

Senator Bernie Sanders on Thursday released a $16.3 trillion blueprint to fight climate change, the latest and most expensive proposal from the field of Democratic presidential candidates aimed at reining in planet-warming greenhouse gases.Mr. Sanders unveiled his proposal one day after Gov. Jay Inslee of Washington, who made climate change the central focus of his campaign, announced he was dropping out of the 2020 race. Mr. Inslee’s absence could create an opening for another presidential aspirant to seize the mantle of “climate candidate.”
Mr. Sanders was an early supporter of the Green New Deal, an ambitious but nonbinding congressional plan for tackling global warming and economic inequality. He is bestowing that same name upon his new plan, which calls for the United States to eliminate fossil fuel use by 2050.
It declares climate change a national emergency; envisions building new solar, wind and geothermal power sources across the country; and commits $200 billion to help poor nations cope with climate change.

Even though I dislike Trump, massive tax and spending **** like this is the reason why I dont want a Democrat as POTUS. They have gone far past the deep end.

Are you suggesting that Sanders speaks for every Democrat?

JC, I could only get through about half of that pdf before I came to the conclusion that Sanders should probably be committed.

The cost of inaction is even higher.

You, along with everyone else, will be paying out the ass to pay for this "Green" monstrosity.

Instead you'd rather pay long term, higher amounts? Curious. You must not like your grandchildren.

Did I say that? No? Ok see ya.

The only price to be paid will be money out of our pockets into theirs and the surrender of our freedoms.

May your grandchildren forgive you

Hopefully we can put a stop to this authoritarian madness before my grandchildren are enslaved by an out of control government.

Well, all the other Democrat candidates have proposed their own, similar plans, and while theyre not as expensive, they are all still in the trillions.

No dem legislature would approve those numbers, so relax. There are moderates. It would compromised and a realistic figure would be settled on.

Biden's plan is $1.7 trillion over 10 years, much less than we spend on military. Also, the plan creates jobs which puts money back into the economy, so it's misleading to call it a "cost".

Unless we reverse what is happening in the climate, the planet might not be habitable by the 22nd century.

We cannot afford NOT to do something about. Voting for Trump is to destroy the planet.

Lol.

Hysteria, for sure.

I will never understand the right wing. You claim to be pro-America and America first.

Then you say Hey, wait, no, we can't put strings on the money we send to Israel. We can't make them be RESPONSIBLE while we're sending them billions in aid every year. Oh, and let's not forget, they have single payer healthcare; why is it ok for the US tax payer to subsidize countries that give their people single payer healthcare when we have millions of uninsured and underinsured, and tens of thousands of people dying due to inaccessible healthcare every year in this nation?

Why is it Ilhan Omar sounds more like a conservative in that regard than an actual conservative? Trump folks should live this move. It puts americans and America first; it alters our infrastructure and updates it; it spends US TAX DOLLARS on US CITIZENS, not Israelis, not Frenchies, no one but americans.

For "America First" It sure as hell seems like the GOP means America is first to accept the predation of everyone else.

Sanders says it pays for itself in 15 years. I'd like professional economists to look at it.

What I look at is the alternative, which is global starvation, water wars, much of the world's cities under water and possibly extinction. From my back-of-the-envelope calculation, that's more than $16 trillion.

Funny using Monopoly board game to make a right wingers case. The whole game was devised to inform people of the dangers of capitalistic monopolies.

Plus, Monopoly is a badly-designed game that people shouldn't waste their time playing. So those morons are going to buy a bad rip-off of a bad game in order to stick it to the libs. Okay then.

Democraptic.
FIFY.

And what realistic figure would that be?

Biden's plan is $1.7 trillion over 10 years, much less than we spend on military.
So we're gonna spend a trillion plus on this and the military?

Also, the plan creates jobs which puts money back into the economy, so it's misleading to call it a "cost".
What makes you so certain all this will create jobs, as you say?

Unless we reverse what is happening in the climate, the planet might not be habitable by the 22nd century.
Are you getting this from AOC?

Well, because the real number is almost impossible to calculate, and so $16T is a down-payment.
It is all for naught though, no one, by and large, cares. #sad
