[h=1]Kudlow says he doesn’t see a recession on the horizon, defends Trump’s trade war[/h]
White House economic advisor Larry Kudlow pushed back Sunday against concerns that the economy was weakening, after the bond market flashed a recession signal last week and the Dow suffered its worst day of the year.

“I don’t see a recession at all,” Kudlow said in an interview with Fox News. President Donald Trump’s top economic advisor pointed to strong retail salesand low unemployment as signs that the U.S. economy remained strong.

You know what worries me? This is what Kudlow said as the Great Recession was becoming visible:

December 2007: ‘The pessimistas were wrong. It’s not going to happen… The Bush boom is alive and well. It’s finishing up its sixth consecutive year with more to come.’ --- Larry Kudlow

On tariffs, Kudlow defends his boss, whose tariffs are a $1,000 a year tax on American families that is also distorting farming and manufacturing.

That’s two strong early indicators of s recession this month alone:

1) inverted yield curve
2) Kudlow says a recession isn’t going to happen soon.

Definitely dark clouds on the economic horizon.

Haha Kudlow has a horrible track record. I remember the fool on CNBC along with the Neo Con morons saying Lehmans and others were great buys just before they went belly up. And going on for months saying nothing is wrong despite the economy collapsing around them...

Here is the reality...

White House Trade and Manufacturing Policy Advisor Peter Navarro appears on CNN to debate economic policy with Jake Tapper. As customary Tapper attempts to use the Multinational Big AG talking points to identify farmers as victims.

♦The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note dropped to 1.623% Wednesday for less than one hour; momentarily below the 2-year bond rate of 1.634%. The cause was a rapid influx of foreign capital, mostly from the EU (due to negative interest rates), into the U.S. to secure a return. This is not comparable to the historic ‘bond rate inversion’.

♦The biggest fallacy pushed in this interview, YET AGAIN, surrounds price impacts on Chinese imports. Tapper takes the talking points of the Wall Street multinationals, and their paid think-tanks, to push an empirically false assertion of the U.S. consumer paying for tariffs on China. Here’s the easiest refutation of that nonsense:

The Steel (25%) and Aluminum (10%) tariffs have been in place for two years.
The 25% tariff on $250 billion Chinese goods have been in place over a full year.
The current inflation rate (Consumer Price Index) is only 1.4%.

If the tariffs on China were impacting consumers, inflation would be much higher. In fact the exact opposite is happening. Because the protectionist Chinese and EU currency manipulation hits *ALL* imports, including non-tariff products, we are actually importing deflation.

It's inverted by 2/100ths percent. The Fed can fix that. But if you're prone to politically fueled economic hysteria, go ahead and have a fit.

These people predicting a recession would never dare shorting the stock market or buy a ton of puts.

When they say a recession is on the horizon = They are hoping for a recession and people to lose their jobs and money so Trump leaves the office. They won't admit it like someone like Bill Maher but that is the damn truth.

What are the odds? 90% chance of a recession? Care to share?

He probably didn't foresee the Democrats winning. That's when the economy started tanking.

Janet Yellen also said she didn't think there would be a recession. I find that much more reassuring.

By the way, have you been in Walmart lately? The fall clothes are out and prices are up. I'm sure it has nothing to do with those tariffs that China is paying.

It's definitely a politically driven scenario at present. If the Fed would reduce their requirements slightly rather than increasing them as they've been consistently doing, the issue goes away. Intetestingly, the Fed has been increasing the fund requirement in order to prevent the economy from overheating.

The economy has slowed a bit. Hopefully the Fed will respond appropriately.

Trump demands absolute obsequiousness.

The networks were inundated with Trump submissive prawns this morning. Larry Kudlow, Peter Navarro and Hogan Gidley were all trying to diminish the dire predictions of a recession. They're worried when all three come out on the same morning to allay fears.

Kudlow and Navarro hit all the Sunday political shows this morning.

Under WH orders to tamp down apprehensions about a recession.

Kudlow has no credibility.

Kudlow has no credibility.

And today, during his impromptu press question and answers outside waiting for him to board the helicopter, Trump bemoaned the fact that Fox just isn't the same and "I don't know what happened to Fox". He praised Tucker, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham but hates that Donna Brazile is a commentator on Fox now.

Does anybody ever think about what the term "consumer confidence" really means?

It means the economy runs, at least in part, on how people feel about it. Not how it actually is.

That's the PCE not CPI.

Kudlow forecasting recessions is like Stephen A. Smith predicting NBA champions.

Being a Republican economist means you never have to say you're sorry for your wrong predictions in the past.

That's correct. So what?

But hey...if you prefer the CPI, here's that data:
