[W:268Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up and not getting paid

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

.... but it's Democrats who are accused of wanting government control of businesses.

Trump fans are supporting the most fascist "leader" this nation has seen in our lifetimes. It's scary. But hopefully we're still America and we can fix this anti-American situation in 2020.

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

NO SCAN, NO PAY. That's what they said. The workers feel obligated to reach 56 hours per week, and according to the article, if they didn't go, they would have lost $700 for that day in wages and benefits.

That's a lot of money for a middle income family.

The way I am, I wouldn't have wanted to leave money. I would have personally felt a financial reason to go, and that's not right. You right wingers act like the left so anti free speech, but then you support stuff like this. This is about speech. It's like paying people to vote. It's literally paying people to support a politician for a day. They were paid to be Trump supporters, and paid by their company. That's worse than a PAC offering a few hundred to bus some people to an event. It's your company paying you, and excepting to participate in a political event as part of your daily work.

Seriously. What would you do if your boss excepted you to go to a AOC rally for the day to get paid? You would be absolutely fine with your boss doing that?
My answer would depend on what she was wearing.

Seriously your complsint is nonsense. They paid people according to your source $700 to listen to what Trump had to say. If they dont like Trump and did not attend they still got paid for their work.

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

Why should an employee be paid less if they didn't attend and others paid more if they did attend?
Because they worked more hours

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

So instead of getting paid to work for a day they got paid to hang out for a day and listen to a short speech. I doubt too many of them were upset by this.
I thought you had a problem with busing in people to do political activities?

Awkward.

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

So Shell have made a political contribution by paying their workers to appear at a Trump rally. I hope it was legal.

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

Fake news! Even CNN states this was not mandated by Trump.

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

Let's get this clear, this was not a Trump campaign rally. This was an 'official' White House event paid for by U.S. taxpayers. This was not supposed to be a "political event". Trump blurs the line between his political events, which is paid for by his campaign and official events which is paid for by U.S. taxpayers.

In his speech, he even slipped in his "Make America Great Again" and "Keep America Great". While there, he bashed his predecessors and took swipes at Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren. Trump needs union votes, particularly Pennsylvania union votes. Trump insisted he's a big supporter of unions, and said he wants union members to be sure to tell their leaders, "I hope you're going to support Trump." Trump even had the balls to take credit for the new Shell plant undergoing completion, "This would have never happened without me and us." In fact, Shell announced its plans to build the complex in 2012, when President Barack Obama was in office.

Trump is a showman, a TV producer, that's what he does best. Omarosa Manigault who was on The Apprentice then worked for the administration until she was walked out by John Kelly and secret service, said that there are a lot of administrative staff at Trump's rallies and they begin the chanting as if on cue to get the crowd started. She said that the chant "send them back" was undoubtedly started by people in the Trump administration camp that were there at the rally where he criticized 'the squad', it didn't begin with the crowd, it was meant to instigate the crowd to join in. Among the many cheap tricks Trump's campaign uses, fear is a big one. For instance Trump said in New Hampshire last Thursday that Americans must vote for him, or their 401k, as well as the stock market, will go "down the tubes".

Thank you -- it is a White House event, and all presidents have done this. Some even take it a step further and schedule a White House Event on the same day and city as campaign events, making them official travel. (Obama was the master of this, scheduling a school speech followed by private fundraisers, and even had 'presidential speeches' while on vacation). I wish there were better separation, but this is part of the advantage of being the incumbent.

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

So this is why his campaign rallies are like mobs, he runs them like one. For those small government conservatives wondering, Yes this is corruption at the highest level! I can't imagine what dirt he must have on the leaders of shell for him to even suggest this and for them to agree.

OTOH he might be the one person on this planet who actually adopts the conspiracy theories he himself spouts. Bussing people in. Protesters paid for by George Soros. Odd that he does the same thing he complains about just like how he hires all those illegal immigrants....

Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

And it should not be overlooked that Trump declared this particular campaign event government business, so expenses were picked up by the taxpayers.

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

Hell, if it meant getting paid time and a half for sitting around for a few hours to watch a circus, I'd probably do it, too. It's not everyday you get watch a megalomaniac make an ass of himself live.

But no matter how you slice and dice it...it's still a paid audience.

It's also pretty shady for Trump to take credit for Obama's deal with Shell and to use government funds for a photo op.

That is where it gets entertaining.

All things considered Trump and Republicans are anti organized labor, but that support is still needed when trying to pimp American jobs.

I wouldn't call screwing american workers entertaining. Trump and you might, but not me.

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

It really looks like one could make a lot of money by offering "12hr spin".

They'd beat their competition by 12 hours.

Profit!

Don't give Alan Pedowitz any ideas...

Don't give Alan Pedowitz any ideas...

If nothing else trump has exposed the manipulation business.

This isn't the only place where folks have noticed the 24 hour delay for the latest "explanation" of what trump really meant when he said the horrible/ridiculous thing he said. (Which he often promptly admits moments after the latest excuse is disseminated)

The rally itself was not legal. It was an official White House event, which is supposed to be kept separate from campaign events. Trump as usual turned it into a campaign event. We're not supposed to have to fund that, but signs do not point to Trump following the law and paying us back for what taxpayers spent on his campaign event.

I thought you had a problem with busing in people to do political activities?

Awkward.
You did?

What does that have to do with union workers that weren't bused in to not do political activities?

Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

*Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid*

That's ^^ simply not true.

*Another Shell spokesman, Curtis Smith, told Newsweek that workers who chose to skip the rally received “paid time off,” which does not count as hours worked and therefore does not trigger overtime pay. Trump’s speech was treated as a training that differed from other training sessions only in that it included “a guest speaker who happened to be the President,” Smith said. “We do these several times a year with various speakers,” Smith told Newsweek in a written statement. “The morning session (7-10 a.m.) included safety training and other work-related activities.”
Ken Broadbent, business manager for the union Steamfitters Local 449, told the Post-Gazette his workers respect Trump for his title, regardless of whether they liked or disliked him. Anyone who did not want to go to work on the day of Trump’s speech could skip it, Broadbent said.
“This is just what Shell wanted to do and we went along with it,” Broadbent told the Post-Gazette.*

Copy-pasting the article I posted does not prove your point. It just means you agree with what Shell and the President did.

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

Still they're all better than Trump, he publicly supported the KKK and Neo Nazis, saying some are "very fine people". He also bragged about sexually assaulting women. He is a blatant racist who led the racist Birther Movement for a decade, attacking a sitting POTUS as UnAmerican for nothing more than the color of his skin.

Trump is about as repugnant as it gets, none of the Dems come close to being as slimy as Trump.

no he didn't why do you lie?
actually it was hillary supporters that lead the birther movement.
your history revisionism doesn't work here.

I figured even conservatives could understand no scan. no pay. Shell not talking to union workers, and the workers not allowed to protest POTUS visit, but sure I'm the one lying...

it is in the article that you posted.

Did you read the post you quoted?

Yes, every president has done this. It was turned up several notches by the previous administration, but every president does big public events that primarily promote the president. In fact, almost every office holder does this.

Yes, let's get this clear. Trump's appearance in Pittsburgh which was fully funded by taxpayer money blurred ethical boundaries to the max. There were no MAGA hats or no "Trump 2020" banners and no music from the Rolling Stones. But when Trump says "I'm gonna speak to some of your union leaders to say, 'I hope you're going to support Trump,'" "And if they don't, vote them the hell out of office because they're not doing their job", there is no other way to describe that but campaigning. And as if that wasn't enough, he went on, "We'll have to hit Pocahontas very hard if she does win. ... What a group - Pocahontas and Sleepy Joe. I don't think they give a damn about western Pennsylvania, do you?"

I don't care what you think, THAT WAS A CAMPAIGN RALLY.

What part of;

"workers who chose to skip the rally received “paid time off,”

in the link didn't you understand ?? The workers were paid, your title "Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid" is simply untrue.
