Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

Nobody was forced to do anything. The article says they were paid strait time if they didn't attend, and overtime if they did:

This story has been updated to clarify the origin of a memo to workers at Shell's site.

---

Shell spokesman Ray Fisher explained that the workers onsite have a 56-hour workweek, with 16 hours of overtime built in. That means those workers who attended Mr. Trump’s speech and showed up for work Friday, meeting the overtime threshold, were being paid at a rate of time and a half, while those who didn’t go to hear the president were being paid the regular rate, despite the fact that both groups did not do work on the site Tuesday.

So a bribe then.

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

So instead of getting paid to work for a day they got paid to hang out for a day and listen to a short speech. I doubt too many of them were upset by this.

Trump, short speech??? The man rambles on all over the place for hours.

Would like to see the union side of things and why they were forced to go along to get along.
Several union leaders said they were not consulted about the arrangement before it was sent out.

Would you like it if your employer forced you to go to a political rally? Or see a democratic candidate? Employers are supposed to stay out of this type of stuff.

The thing is this speech was ostensibly was suppose to be about America's energy dominance and manufacturing revival. Instead he turns this US taxpayer funded White House sponsored business trip into a personal political rally. At the very least we should demand a refund for the expenses incurred from the Trump campaign.

Good Lord! Yet another reading challenged conservative.

It's the best they could come up with in 24 hours. Give em a break.

He also took credit for opening that plant when it was opened during Obama... Fact check: Trump takes credit for another factory approved under Obama

And could you please explain to me exactly what is wrong with using "Rent-A-Crowd" services?

Nothing if you don't complain about using them and spread conspiracy theories about others using them. Trump does both WHILE using them.

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

Interesting that Trump and Shell had to resort to such tactics. If I had to go to a rally like that, I'd be sure to bring my e-reader.

Bush came to my place of work one time.

I took a week's vacation and went steelhead fishing...

I was pissed when I missed Jeb Bush coming to my school after I graduated, I wanted to clap.

Inconvenient details.

What I find stunning is that some Democrats are worried that a Biden nomination would mean that he would be a subject of Trump making fun of his gaffs. Yes, the guy that called Tim Cooke, the President of Apple, "Tim Apple," warned Americans of the danger of windmill cancer, and takes credit for plant openings that happened under Obama, will try to get the advantage from Biden gaffs.

Jimmy Carter came to my college. But that was shortly before he was elected President.

Did they get a free MAGAt hat when they scanned in?

I like all the liberal policies the candidates are proposing, but we do need someone who will clean up Trumps mess and get things back to the way they were. That's what Biden is going for and he's appealing to exactly the type of workers here.

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

Seriously?!? You are putting AOC on the same level as the President of the United States?!?

:lamo

You're right she is nowhere near that low and never will be...

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

They had to scan their badges to get paid for the whole day, but sitting out the Trump rally doesn't seem to be an option either. There was no option to get paid for the day doing anything else. To get paid, you had to attend the Trump rally, and you were not allowed to protest, shout, or show resistance during the Trump rally.

This event was also intended to be used as good marketing in the news. These people were used as pawns, and a lot of them most likely went because they were not in a position to lose their pay for the day.

So if they couldn't get secret service clearance ( like most of trumps staff) would you still be paid???

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

So this is why his campaign rallies are like mobs, he runs them like one. For those small government conservatives wondering, Yes this is corruption at the highest level! I can't imagine what dirt he must have on the leaders of shell for him to even suggest this and for them to agree.

OTOH he might be the one person on this planet who actually adopts the conspiracy theories he himself spouts. Bussing people in. Protesters paid for by George Soros. Odd that he does the same thing he complains about just like how he hires all those illegal immigrants....

Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

Just about everything about this man is a fraud. He is the Jim Jones of American politics.

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

Wait, isn't supplying a paid crowd for a campaign event considered a donation?

How would this be legal???

Psychological manipulation by giving false impressions?

Approximately equal levels of disdain.

So an acceptable example.

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

You don't see the issue in coercing people to attend a political event?

Let's get this clear, this was not a Trump campaign rally. This was an 'official' White House event paid for by U.S. taxpayers. This was not supposed to be a "political event". Trump blurs the line between his political events, which is paid for by his campaign and official events which is paid for by U.S. taxpayers.

In his speech, he even slipped in his "Make America Great Again" and "Keep America Great". While there, he bashed his predecessors and took swipes at Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren. Trump needs union votes, particularly Pennsylvania union votes. Trump insisted he's a big supporter of unions, and said he wants union members to be sure to tell their leaders, "I hope you're going to support Trump." Trump even had the balls to take credit for the new Shell plant undergoing completion, "This would have never happened without me and us." In fact, Shell announced its plans to build the complex in 2012, when President Barack Obama was in office.

Trump is a showman, a TV producer, that's what he does best. Omarosa Manigault who was on The Apprentice then worked for the administration until she was walked out by John Kelly and secret service, said that there are a lot of administrative staff at Trump's rallies and they begin the chanting as if on cue to get the crowd started. She said that the chant "send them back" was undoubtedly started by people in the Trump administration camp that were there at the rally where he criticized 'the squad', it didn't begin with the crowd, it was meant to instigate the crowd to join in. Among the many cheap tricks Trump's campaign uses, fear is a big one. For instance Trump said in New Hampshire last Thursday that Americans must vote for him, or their 401k, as well as the stock market, will go "down the tubes".

Re: Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

Yeah but is it right to hate it while doing it? Which is what Trump does. I know Joe Biden is a big supporter of unions and a number of Democrats are too. To me it's a problem when Republicans force people to come to them or not get paid for it, and then complain about liberals doing that! You don't hear democrats complaining about that because they seek out that support. The only union the Republicans publicly support is the NRA. Trump should be doing townhalls, not forcing people to go to his hate rallies.

That is where it gets entertaining.

All things considered Trump and Republicans are anti organized labor, but that support is still needed when trying to pimp American jobs.

It really looks like one could make a lot of money by offering "12hr spin".

They'd beat their competition by 12 hours.

Profit!

They could have a drinking game at the debate.

One drink after every gaffe.

Of geritol.

Biden has been making gaffes his entire career. It's his charm. Trump makes false statements because he's s habitual liar that doesn't know right from wrong. His moral compass has no pointer.
