Rashida Tlaib backs off plans for Israel trip, citing "oppressive conditions"

There is no law which states that, just like there is no law which states that the House of Representatives should give free money to Israel.

Well, except for the appropriations bills that Congress passes and the President signs to give free money to whichever country they choose.

Can you bring some proof to back your claim?

How can Antifa, which is an Antifascist organization (this is why it's called Antifa, did you know that?) be Nazi if its primary task is fighting Nazism?

Richard Spencer and David Duke are actual Nazis and they support Trump (duh)

Tlaib and Omar never expressed support for Nazism and saying otherwise would be basically schizophrenia

That's why it is weird.

I'm still waiting for your proof showing that Tlaib and Omar are Nazis

In the meantime I can bring you a list of pro-Trump Nazis if you want

Well that is an interesting conundrum isn’t it. How can an organization which promotes and engages in the brutalization of people in the street, including journalists, for no reason other than perceived difference of opinion and documentation of their actions call itself anti-fascist? That’s pretty fascist behavior.

Yeah! Why don't you go get that for me. In the meantime reread my post. It say's Nazi supporters not Nazis!

Do you work for CNN?

The title of Ben Shapiro's podcast today is "Israel Boycotts Anti-Semites"

Hilarious!

The claim of wanting to destroy Israel is pure slander, and is in of itself anti Semitic.

Does she or does she not support the BDS movement? That is a movement to do damage to the state of Israel.

In addition, you do know the term "Anti-Semitic" was coined specifically to describe anti Jewish actions/feelings.

Right?

Care to explain that.

Did Rashida Talib convince the Israeli government to deny her a visa?

Did she convince Trump that it would be a good idea if he whispered into Benny’s ear that he should deny a visa to a sitting US Congresswoman?

Try and explain to us all how she managed to stage all that. We’ll wait.

They wanted to meet with anti-Israeli groups on Israeli soil in order to get some free press and further their anti-Israeli agenda.

Not a whole lot different than when AOC went to the border just to make a spectacle of herself.

Raw meat for the base.

"A PR stunt from the beginning" ought to be self-explanatory. Regardless of whether or not she was given a visa or if Trump had expressed his opinions, Talib's intentions were to mount a PR offensive against Israel. If she had gone, she'd have used the visit as a platform for her politics. If she had not, she'd use the denial of the visa as a platform for her politics. BUT if she were given the opportunity to visit her grandmother, without political showboating, she was not interested.

So "care to explain that"?

She asked for Visa she knew she wasn't going to get.

Then cried about it.

Once it was allowed she cried the requirements were too onerous.

There you go.

Every single mass shooting committed in the US this year was committed by right-wingers, while Antifa never killed anyone. But hey, Antifa is brutal!

The facts don't seem to agree with your statement.

Hey (Insert name of country) I would like to visit your territories but I still want to foment damage to your country.....
Do you usually respond with non-sequiturs or only when you're confronted with evidence that doesn't match up with your preconceived notions?

Now I get it.

That’s quite a deflection. Agree with us and don’t record us or we’ll bash your head in, but that’s not fascist at all and “Nazis” are the problem?

Which is fair enough.

Except the counter-point is also fair enough-- Rep Tlab supports the destruction of Israel. Why should Israel tolerate that?

I said from the beginning that I have no problem with Israel refusing to accept her (and her anti-Israel rhetoric) inside Israel.

Recording people without their permission is a violation of privacy, while I don't remember Antifa killing people in a synagogue in Pittsburgh this year. I remember a Trumpster doing it.

and “Nazis” are the problem?

Do you think antisemitism and white supremacy are not problems? Because that's what Nazism is

Come voting time, voters are going to thing it's Trump against Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and not whichever democrat won the primary.

Please share.... What nation should allow someone in who is promoting very real damage to that nation?

And if she was so intent to visit kin why couldn't she shut up for that time? If I were trying so hard to visit kin I could shut up for a week.

Any of us might but we have the luxury of not being public figures.

Tlaib is protesting what she sees as injustice. And these events illustrate exactly what she is protesting: how petty and cruel the Israeli govt can be.

It allows right wing buddies from the US congress in but not left wing opponents from the same body. It occupies Palestinian homes and villages yet doesn't allow an American politician, who comes from its greatest ally (albeit who personally disagrees with that occupation) to come visit relatives until there's an international furor over it. Then the only condition for entry is okay but don't complain about us. This from a country its supporters tout as 'the only democracy in the region'. Netanyahoo is acting like a two-bit dictator.

Instead we're supposed to run the narrative that Tlaib lacks filial piety and is personally selfish because she won't visit poor old grandma? Its easy to see through that straw man; especially when her relatives in the West Bank support this decision. It's a lame deflection.

I have a feeling Tlaib also wanted to push to see if she could get arrested. I wouldn't put it past her.

You don't even like the values of democarcy, so why do you pretend to criticze actual democracies and measure their democracy?

And clearly because you're against these values you also do not understand them.
There's nothing undemocratic in preventing entry for these two women who work to harm the country and its citizens.
There's not a single democratic value that is being contradicted or conflicted in doing so.

Just for the record, the US prevents people from entering its territory for their actions and opinions all the time.
The US also prevented an Israeli far-right lawmaker from entering in 2012.

Public figure or private figure, who can't just visit family and you know, catch up with the family? Who mixes protests with family visits? Zealots.

Tlaib's hatred of Israel is so deep that she would cynically use her own grandmother as political cannon fodder. I'm sorry, but that's got zero to do with her public status.
