Pressure cookers shut down NYC subway station

First I think it's kind of dumb to screw around with a bag you think is a bomb, but beyond that continuing to mess the bag once you realize it was someones peraonal possessions is a good way to get an ass whooping.

Yeah, I doubt that. What's stupid is leaving a bag, unattended in a crowded corridor.

Like what? Start yelling that might be a bomb and cause a panic? Cause a stampede that could get someone hurt, or killed? Yeah, that's pure genius. Have you heard of "yelling fire in a crowded theater"?

You dudes put zero thought into your responses. Huh?

Really? You can't think of any better way to handle it than just shouting and flailing your arms?

Um call the police?

Obviously we need urgent legislation to ban all pressure cookers...They are clearly dangerous...

Nope, red flag laws, universal BGCs and universal registration should take care of the problem.

This was simply a case of mistaken identity it was not a pressure (assault?) cooker - it was a rice (sporting?) cooker so even with very strict pressure cooker control laws the panic would have happened anyway.

Apparently not much. Ever occur to you it could be activated with a cell phone and they waiting for someone like you to walk up to it? Duh!

LOL...there were 50 people within 50 feet of that spot. Me opening it up would have had zero effect on the bomber's decision to remote detinate it. Besides, what idiot is going to remote-det a bomb, while he's still in the building?

My wifes chili in one of those has just as much firepower

So does my neighbors. He use's peppers I have work with in a full up hazmat suit. He eats them off the vine.

"It's impossible for a bomb to detonate when messed with, either by intentional design or overall instability," says guy who claims to know **** about explosives.

I knew a guy like that. He died on his first day of the job as EOD. :lamo

If he's behind something and it's not too massive sure. Some bombers get off on seeing their work in action.

And how long would it take for them to get there? How much panic would that also create?

So your solution is: don't call the police and just walk away as if nothing's wrong?

I was at a truckstop in Virginia a couple years ago and saw an unattended duffle bag in a corridor. I assumed it was a bomb. I opened it up and it was a driver's dirty drawers. He came back and got pissed because I rifled through his bag and I pointed out the stupidity of leaving a duffle bag in a crowded corridor like that

Thats actually common practice in a truck stop and its rude to rifle though peoples things, you earned your ass chewing. The reason you do that at a truck stop is twofold. One, nobody wants to smell your stinky drawers and socks while they are in a checkout line or shopping. Two truck stops have a problem with shoplifting and have a no bags policy, by parking my bag in the entry way or by the attendant one can shop and observe the store policy without having to drag my back across the parking lot to the truck then back again.

And how long would it take for them to get there? How much panic would that also create?

Let's ask it this way:

You open the bag. Inside is a bomb.

What do you do next?

Do that, except without touching the bomb.

I do know how to **** with it and I know that the whole "booby trapped bomb" crap you're illuding to is Hollywood bull****. Especially in the scenario I just described, because if moving it would detinate it, it would blown up before it got there...lol

That would depend on its technical specifics. Hence the reason not to screw with em.

Ok let's say you stupidly opened the bag and found that it actually has a bomb, what then?

Then, evacuate and call the cops. Why? Because THEN there would be a legit reason to cause that mayhem and panic. See how that works?

I thought you said you don't want to cause panic?

You doubt that messing with peoples personal property is a good way to catch an ass whooping? I really don't know how to deal with your break from reality. You seem to be taking things to an unrealistic extreme rather than admit you didn't handle the alleged situation the best way. You're acting like a gun banning liberal in the gun forum, digging your heals in on an illogical position.

In that scenario, a device wouldn't be very sophisticated. It would only be composed of an explosive, a detonator and a power source. There wouldn't be any way to rig up anything else because of the steps needed to place the device.

Like I pointed out, the bomber would only be able to walk in, place the bag on the floor and leave. Rigging booby traps like the kind pamak referred to would have been impossible, without drawing attention.

No, I doubt he could have whipped my ass. This dude a heart attack waiting for a place to happen.

Besides, I've had my ass whipped before. I can handle myself.

Well, next time, I'll PM you and get your input. How's that sound?
