Homeowner shot a 14-year-old during burglary attempt. The 5 other teens with him were charged with m

I believe the only acceptable answer for him, at this point, is if raccoons were driving the car.

That may not cause a more rapid LEO response time. ;)

And should he go out unprepared to defend himself? How stupid is that? To get out and see what the problem is and THEN realize there are several armed (at least 1 in this instance) criminals out there? It's a little late after they decide to attack you.

You cant always ascertain what's happening unless you go outside and check. Maybe just your presence is enough to run raccoons or thieves off. But you look pretty silly calling the cops on raccoons.

The lack of common sense in some posts is appalling.

Never said he didnt know someone drove onto his property. You are lying if you pretend the discussion did not move beyond the homeowner's perceptions.

Never said that he did know that someone had drove onto his property either. Because it's quite apparent that you didn't know that he knew someone had driven onto to his property. You assumed that he didn't. So if anyone is pretending it's you.

??? Then why did he go outside? :doh

Good lord, you have completely lost track of anything resembling reality in this thread.

Jesus I feel like I'm talking to someone afflicted with dementia. The conversation just goes around and around in a circle asking the you questions you've answered several times before already.

If I read that story correctly, the other teens ranged from 16 to 18 and odds are they will be tried as adults.

Under Illinois law it is not even a process, the sources I found suggest 16 being tried for murder is automatically considered an adult with mental capacity, culpability, and criminal background being the factors for the case.

They can just claim they didnt think anyone was home and never thought anyone was gonna get murdered. Probably all get reduced sentences.

And you're the one asking the same questions over and over...even after getting the answers 'several times already...and introducing unrelated elements in the hopes of getting an answer that makes you look right on the Internetz...'high quality' cars, raccoons, key fobs, etc. :doh

Sure, sure, whatever. Have a goodnight.

Five Chicago teens are being charged with murder after a 14-year-old who was with them during an attempted burglary was shot by the homeowner, authorities said Tuesday.

I wonder how much time they could face being that four of them are not considered adults by the law.

I come from a different culture and criminal legal system and even if I were not, this sounds really illogical to me. How are they guilty of murder if it was one of them who was killed by the homeowner?

Guilty of robbery with a fatal ending might be logical but murder? That sounds far fetched from an non-US legal point of view.

This is already a horrendous tragedy for these young teens/men, what logical purpose will it serve to prosecute them for murder and maybe get them 10 or more years of prison in the process? It does not sound like justice to me.

I dont know enough about criminal law to say one way or the other; you might ask some of the legal eagles here in DP.....though from what I have read, 44 US states have similar laws that appear to originate from England under the Common Law, but the English abolished it in the 1950's.

1. They will face very little time, if any.

2. The juries in Chicago will be very sympathetic toward them -- not their adult victim.

3. The young gentlemen's lawyers will no doubt explain how these young gentlemen are victims of society and basically dear sweet kids.

If their parents donate to her, Kim Foxx will drop all the charges against them.
